AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:PASSENGER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2003-2008 Corolla, 2005-2008 Corolla Matrix, and Pontiac Vibe vehicles equipped with a front passenger air bag assembly replaced under a prior recall. The air bag may not unfold as designed during inflation under high temperature conditions, possibly resulting in the air bag not inflating properly.
Remedy: Toyota will notify their owners. Pontiac Vibe owners will be notified by GM. Dealers will replace the front passenger air bag assembly or sub-assembly, free of charge. Toyota owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371. Toyota's numbers for this recall are K1Q and K0Q. Pontiac owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-762-2737. GM's number for this recall is N192273760.

On January 9, 2018, Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) notified NHTSA that they are recalling 14,585 model year 2010-2012 Yaris vehicles ever registered in the states of Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. As of January 30, 2018, Toyota is additionally recalling 3,347 model year 2010 Pontiac Vibe vehicles located in states listed above. Also included in this recall filing is 98,194 model year 2003-2008 Toyota Corolla Matrix vehicles, located throughout the U.S., that previously received a “like-for-like” interim air bag inflator replacement. These vehicles are equipped with certain air bag inflators assembled as part of the passenger frontal air bag modules used as original equipment or replacement equipment. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger frontal air bag, these inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to absolute humidity and temperature cycling.
Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger frontal air bag assemblies with an alternate inflator, free of charge. The recall began on January 29, 2018. Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) notified the agency on May 13, 2015 that they are recalling certain model year 2004 Sequoia vehicles manufactured August 18, 2003, to August 19, 2004, and 2003-2004 Tundra vehicles manufactured March 18, 2003, to August 25, 2004. On June 16, 2015, Toyota expanded the recall to include an additional 1,270,468 vehicles, including model year 2002-2003 and 2005-2007 Sequoia, 2005-2006 Tundra, 2003-2007 Corolla, 2003-2007 Corolla Matrix, 2003-2007 Pontiac Vibe and 2002-2007 Lexus SC vehicles. This is to address a safety defect in the passenger side frontal air bag inflator which may produce excessive internal pressure causing the inflator to rupture upon deployment of the air bag. This recall addresses both the passenger side frontal air bags that were originally installed in the vehicles, as well as replacement air bags that may have been installed as replacement service parts. A replacement air bag may have been installed, as one example, if a vehicle had been in a crash necessitating the replacement of the passenger side frontal air bag.
Remedy: 2003-2004 Corolla and Corolla Matrix vehicles that are recalled under both 15V-043 and 15V-285 are under a Do Not Drive advisory. Owners of these vehicles are advised not to drive their vehicles until the recall remedy has been completed. Toyota will notify their owners. Pontiac Vibe owners will be notified by GM. Dealers will replace the front passenger air bag. The recall began on July 13, 2015. Toyota owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Pontiac owners may call 1-800-762-2737. Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) notified the agency on May 13, 2015, that they are recalling 2005-2007 Lexus SC, Toyota Corolla, Corolla Matrix, Sequoia, and Pontiac Vibe, and 2005-2006 Toyota Tundra vehicles that were originally sold, or ever registered, in Florida, along the Gulf Coast, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, Saipan and American Samoa. On June 16, 2015 Toyota expanded the recall to cover an additional 769,055 vehicles, including certain model year 2002-2004 Lexus SC, Toyota Sequoia, 2003-2004 Toyota Corolla Matrix, Toyota Corolla, Pontiac Vibe, and Toyota Tundra vehicles, as well the vehicles covered by the May 13, 2015 notification in the portions of Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas that were not previously included. The inflators in the front passenger air bags are susceptible to rupture in the event of a crash necessitating the deployment of the front passenger air bag.
Remedy: 2003-2004 Corolla and Corolla Matrix vehicles that are recalled under both 15V-043 and 15V-286 are under a Do Not Drive advisory. These 3 things may be related to each other because they all are connected to the steering wheel. My car can be scheduled for an inspection regarding these safety problems. 1. The Airbag warning light is sometimes on when I drive the car. I'm worried it won't work if I'm in a wreck. 2. The horn doesn't work when I press on the part of the steering wheel that should make it work. It does make a loud sound when I press the panic button on my key fob, but only when the car is turned off. I had to stick my head out of the window and yell at a driver who was getting close to hitting my car in a parking lot. I was parked, and they were backing out of their parking stall. They stopped inches away from my car. 3. The cruise control does not work in the car. I think by using this feature, and maintaining a steady speed, it reduces the chances of accidents. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? See answers #1, 2 and 3 above. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed? #1. No. A dealer told me it would cost me $100 to have them check the airbag light. #2. The horn was checked by an independent service center. #3. No. Has it been inspected? #1. This car has been serviced two different times for recalls for the airbag not working correctly. I wonder if the horn and cruise control wires were damaged, or not put back together correctly, when the recall work was being done, while owned by my sister-in-law. #2. No. #3. No. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? #1. The warning lamp for the airbag started coming on around August 15, 2024. #2. No. It didn't work on February 11, 2023 - when I bought the car. #3. No. It didn't work on February 11, 2023.

The contact's client owned a 2005 Toyota Matrix. The contact stated that while her client was driving at approximately 35 MPH, he crashed into another vehicle that had merged into his lane of traffic. The air bags deployed upon impact. Her client claimed that shrapnel was released from one of the air bags upon deployment; however, the claim had yet to be verified by the contact. Upon investigation, the contact discovered that the vehicle was currently under NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V025000(Air Bags) which she linked to the failure. The contact sought medical treatment at the hospital for a severe burn to an arm (arm unknown) as a result of the air bag deployment. He was also treated for pain to his neck, back and both knees. The whereabouts of the other driver were unknown. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed from the scene to an unknown facility. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had been destroyed as a result of the crash. The failure mileage was unknown.

I took my vehicle for the airbag recall. When the technician gave me my car back I noticed the airbag warning light was still on. The technician said the warning airbag light is something else but he could not say what. Please add additional recalls to fix passenger airbag. But he said “the light was on before the recall” and I would have to pay to find out what the warning is for. I waited 2 hours for the recall work to be finished and when I entered my car the warning light was still on. This vehicle has not been in an accident. This situation I read in the reviews online is happening to this car and many complaints. I feel unsafe and I think all possible recalls should be put in place for this to be taken care of by Toyota. It is dangerous and it is a liability. Please help me get this resolved with AutoNation Toyota in Winter Park. RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE FROM TOYOTA. CALLED LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHERE PURCHASED - THEY TOOK INFO AND STATED THEY WOULD GET PARTS AND CALL TO SCHEDULE. THEY NEVER CALLED BACK. WE CALLED TOYOTA CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE CENTER TO INFORM WE WERE NOT GETTING OUR RECALL SERVICE. THEY STATED THEY WOULD CONTACT THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THEM CALL WITHIN ONE BUSINESS DAY TO INITIATE SERVICE. NO ONE CALLED. I CALLED TOYOTA AGAIN, THEY PUT ME ON HOLD AND AFTER 12 MINUTES ON HOLD I GAVE UP. TOYOTA IS NOT FOLLOWING THROUGH ON THIS RECALL SERVICE WHICH IS A DEADLY CONDITION.

BUT, WHEN I HAVE GONE AS PER THE APPOINTMENTS, THE DEALER TOLD ME THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE. IN GENERAL, THE COMPANY UNABLE TO DO THE RECALL REMEDY.

TAKATA RECALL ELMORE TOYOTA IN WESTMINSTER, CA. FLAT OUT LIED TO ME ABOUT MY AIRBAG REPLACEMENT. ELMORE TOYOTA IS USING DECEITFUL TACTICS, AND POSSIBLY, UNLAWFUL PRACTICES. I TOOK MY CAR TO ELMORE ON 08/19/2015 FOR THE TAKATA AIRBAG RECALL. AT THAT TIME, I TOLD THE SERVICE GUY TO CHECK THE MOLDING AROUND MY WINDOWS, IT'S STARTING TO COME OUT, AND NEEDS TO BE TUCKED BACK IN A FEW SPOTS. AND I ASKED HIM TO GIVE ME AN OIL CHANGE WHILE IT WAS THERE. THEY DIDN'T HAVE REPLACEMENT PARTS ON HAND, SO THEY GAVE ME A RENTAL CAR, AND TOLD ME, WHEN THE REPLACEMENT PARTS ARRIVE, THEY'LL LET ME KNOW. I CALL A COUPLE TIMES A WEEK TO CHECK ON MY CAR, NOT A SINGLE RETURNED CALL FROM ELMORE. THREE FULL MONTHS GO BY, AND I GET A VOICE MESSAGE FROM ELMORE TELLING ME THAT MY CAR WAS READY, HE SAID TO COME PICK IT UP, AND THAT THEY WON'T PAY ANYMORE DAYS ON THE RENTAL. IT'S MONDAY 11/23/15, I WASH, WAX, AND GAS UP THE RENTAL, AND TAKE IT TO ELMORE. NOBODY CAN FIND MY CAR. NOBODY CAN FIND THE GUY WHO CALLED ME ABOUT IT BEING READY FOR PICK UP. IT WASN'T IN THE COMPUTER. I WAIT, AND WAIT. 45 MINUTES LATER, A SERVICE GUY PULLS UP IN MY CAR, AND IT'S COVERED WITH BIRD CRAP, AND A (3) MONTH LAYER OF DIRT. MY CAR IS WASHED, AND WAXED, ONCE A WEEK. IT WAS IMMACULATE WHEN I TOOK IT TO ELMORE. OBVIOUSLY, MY CAR SAT OUTSIDE ON THEIR LOT FOR (3) MONTHS. I LOOK AND SEE THAT NOTHING WAS DONE WITH THE MOLDING, SO I ASK IF THE OIL WAS CHANGED, HE DIDN'T KNOW. HE SAID, "ALL I KNOW IS, THEY FIXED THE AIRBAG". I ASKED HIM FOR THE PAPERWORK ON MY CAR, THAT SHOWS WHAT WORK WAS REQUESTED, AND WHAT WORK WAS DONE. THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND ANY AFTER I WAITED A OTHER 30 MIN. I WENT HOME AND IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE GUY AT ELMORE AND LEFT SEVERAL MESSAGES, AND EMAILS, EXPLAINING THAT THEY DIDN'T DO THE MOLDING, OR OIL, MY CAR WAS FILTHY, AND NO PAPERWORK. IT WAS RECALLED FOR THE DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAG REPLACEMENT AND DURING THAT TIME THE PALO ALTO TOYOTA MECHANIC TRIED TO FIX THE LIGHT BUT COULD NOT FIND THE APPROPRIATE SOLUTION. NOW MY 2005 COROLLA MATRIX WHICH IS CURRENTLY 11 YEARS OLD IS FINALLY HAVING THIS REPAIR PERFORMED. AND TOYOTA'S RECOMMENDATION IS THAT I DO NOT OPERATE THE VEHICLE WITH AN OCCUPANT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. WHAT ABOUT THE PREVIOUS 11 YEARS THAT RODE IN THAT SEAT WITH THE SAME DEFECT? IF TOYOTA TRULY CARED ABOUT MY SAFETY, THEY SHOULD HAVE MADE THAT SUGGESTION WHEN THEY FIRST KNEW OF IT. I HAD TO REPLACE MY ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) BECAUSE THE ENGINE WOULD LOOSE POWER AND CUT OFF WHILE DRIVING ON STREET. THIS BECAME NOTICEABLE AFTER A RAIN STORM. I WAS TOLD BECAUSE MY VEHICLE WAS A MATRIX XRS, IT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL FOR THE OTHER MATRIX MODELS; THEREFORE I SPENT APPROX. $1000 IN HAVING THE ECM REPLACED. I HAD ALL OF THE SAME CITED SYMPTOMS. PLEASE INCLUDE MY ENGINE IN THE RECALL SO I MAY BE REIMBURSED. THANKS YOU.
