VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MINI VANS. ONE OR MORE OF THE FIVE BOLTS THAT MOUNT THE RACK AND PINION STEERING GEAR TO THE VEHICLE MAY HAVE BEEN INCORRECTLY TIGHTENED.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE VEHICLES AND, IF THE BOLTS ARE MISSING, WILL REPLACE THE STEERING GEAR MOUNTING BOLTS. ALL BOLTS WILL BE TIGHTENED TO THE SPECIFIED TORQUE.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE DATE CODE ON CERTAIN SEAT BELT BUCKLES OF YOUR VEHICLE AND REPLACE ALL SEAT BELT BUCKLES THAT FALL WITHIN THE SUSPECT DATE CODE RANGE.

I START DRIVING VERY SLOW OUT OF PARKING SPACE WHEN THE CAR ACCELERATE BY ITSELF, REACHING HIGH SPEED WITHIN SECONDS, THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK AT ALL,FOOT PEDAL OR EMERGENCY BRAKE. IT SEEMS THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS STUCK. MY FOOT WAS NOT IN THE ACCELERATOR BUT CAR CONTINUE INCREASING SPEED. I HAVE NO CHOICE TO COLLIDE AGAINST ANOTHER PARKED CAR AND HITTING A WALL WHERE FINALLY THE CAR STOP. EVEN WHEN THE CAR GOT TO STOP AGAINST THE WALL, THE ENGINE CONTINUE RUNNING ACCELERATED UNTIL I FINALLY SHUT OFF THE ENGINE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 NISSAN QUEST. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE AND THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK UNCONTROLLABLY. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND VEERED TO THE RIGHT. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSIS AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE BRAKES AND ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. MY CAR HAD NO PREVIOUS PROBLEMS AS COULD BE SEEN. I BOUGHT IT OFF THE LOT AT 72,000 MILES. I STOPPED IN THE LEFT HAND LANE AND THE CAR JUST STALLED. I HAD NISSAN QUEST 2000, MINIVAN, FOR FIVE YEARS. IT HAS ONLY 135K MILES. WE TOOK GOOD CARE OF IT AND KEEP IT WELL MAINTAINED. IN 01/03/2012 I WAS PICKING UP MY KIDS FROM SCHOOL, IN THE SCHOOL PARKING LOT I SMELLED SOMETHING WEIRD I THOUGHT IT FROM OUTSIDE, THIN ONE LADY WAVED TO ME THAT THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG IN MY CAR. THE SMOKE WAS START COMING OUT OF THE FRONT TRUNK OF THE CAR. I LOOKED AT THE TEMPERATURE READER, IT WAS NORMAL, NO OVERHEATING. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND LEFT WITH MY 4 KIDS. I THOUGHT IT WILL STOP SMOKING, BUT THE SMOKE CONTINUE TO INCREASE, AND WE START SEE SOME FIRE. THE SCHOOL CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT, THEY WERE THERE IN 3 MIN. THEY WERE ABLE TO CONTROL THE FIRE BUT AFTER IT MADE A COMPLETE DAMAGE. THE OFFICER IN THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TOOK TOO MANY PICTURES, AND HE SAID THEY CAN'T TELL THE CAUSE OF FIRE. I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW AND WHY THIS HAPPENS, THIS KIND OF CAR SUPPOSED TO SERVE FOR MUCH LONGER THAN THAT, IT HAS ONLY 135K MILE ON IT. MANY PEOPLE TOLD ME THAT COULD BE DUE TO MALFUNCTION OR DEFECT IN MANUFACTURE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 NISSAN QUEST MINIVAN. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 1-2 MPH APPROACHING A TRAFFIC LIGHT THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE HAD TO ENGAGE THE BRAKES WITH EXCESSIVE FORCE, AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IN ORDER TO PLACE THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND STOP IT FROM ACCELERATING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT BECAUSE OF THE FAILURE HE HAD TO REPLACE THE MOTOR MOUNTS TWICE. THE FAILURE ONLY HAPPENED INTERMITTENTLY WHEN APPROACHING A STOP. THE FAILURE HAD BEEN ONGOING FOR THE LAST YEAR AND A HALF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 86,500.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 NISSAN QUEST. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING AT NIGHT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH WITH THE HEADLIGHTS ON. SUDDENLY, THE HEADLIGHTS BECAME INOPERATIVE. THE CONTACT MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THEN RESUMED WITHOUT THE HEADLIGHTS. THE CONTACT'S VISIBILITY WAS EXTREMELY LIMITED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY REPLACED BOTH HEADLIGHT BULBS. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AGAIN AFTER THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND VIN WERE UNAVAILABLE.

THE FAILURE HAD BECOME PROGRESSIVELY WORSE OVER TIME. NISSAN WAS NOT NOTIFIED ABOUT THE FAILURE WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 142,000.

AS I WAS DRIVING ON CITY STREET, MY CAR STARTED ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN. WHEN I SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL, THE RPM SHOT UP TO 4-5000. THE BREAKS WERE TOO HARD AND FAILED TO STOP THE CAR UNTIL IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. THE MECHANIC FOUND THE ORIGIN OF THE PROBLEM IN A FAULTY CRUISE CONTROL. EVENTUALLY THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP DISCONNECTED THE CRUISE CONTROL. THIS HAPPENED LAST WEEK AND SO FAR I HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED ANY OTHER PROBLEM. DEALERSHIP BELIEVES THAT THIS WAS A FAILURE OF AN ELECTRONIC COMPONENT AS A NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. I DISAGREE, SINCE THE PROBLEM ALSO CAUSED THE MOTOR MOUNTS TO CRACK AND I HAD TO REPAIR THOSE. *TR

THE VEHICLE STUTTERS OR HESITATES BRIEFLY WHILE IN MOTION. IT ONLY OCCURS 3 TO 4 TIMES A MONTH AT MOST. HOWEVER, WE HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS TO THE DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES (A FEW OF THOSE TIMES WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY) AND THEY HAVE FOUND NOTHING. NOW, AT 80,000 MILES, THE DEALERSHIP IS SAYING THAT IT PROBABLY NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION. *JB

THE HEADLIGHT BULBS CONTINUE TO BURN OUT AND DURING THE LAST REPLACEMENT OF THE BULBS, THE COLLARS RETAINING THE WIRING HARNESS CRUMBLED IN MY HANDS. BOTH COLLARS LOOK LIKE THEY HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO A LOT OF HEAT. THEN WHILE I WAS TRYING TO REMOVE THE BULB, IT CAME BACK ON. THE WIRING SOCKET WAS LOOSE AND NEEDED PRESSURE IN ORDER TO WORK. THIS TOO, LOOKED LIKE IT WAS EXPOSED TO A LOT OF HEAT WHERE THE WIRES CONNECT TO THE SOCKETS. IS THIS A DESIGN DEFECT? *JB

ONCE MY CAR'S WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED I BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE "ENGINE" SO I THOUGHT. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR BEGAN RUNNING ROUGH. I TOOK IT IN AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS A KNOCK SENSOR MALFUNCTION AND A MISFIRE IN THE #6 CYLINDER. I TOOK IT INTO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THE CAR COMPLETELY DIED. I AUTHORIZED THE SPARK PLUGS TO BE REPLACED AND THE BATTERY CABLE IF IT WAS NECESSARY BUT WAS TOLD THE SPARK PLUGS ARE GOOD FOR 100,000 MILES AND THE BATTERY CABLE WAS FINE EVEN THOUGH THE ORIGINAL ONE SPLIT IN TWO KILLING MY CAR. I WAS TOLD THE KNOCK SENSOR NEEDED TO BE RESET AND MY BATTERY WAS DEAD. I AM STILL HAVING THE ROUGH IDLE SO I TOOK IT IN AGAIN AND WAS TOLD THE KNOCK SENSOR AGAIN HAD A MALFUNCTION CODE AND THE COMPUTER IS TELLING THE O2 SENSORS TO RUN LEANER AND THE O2 SENSORS ARE TELLING MY COMPUTER TO RUN LEAN. WELL NOW THERE IS A NASTY SULFUR ODOR WHICH IN THE PAST HAS MEANT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. NO ONE KNOWS WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG BUT IT STILL (A YEAR LATER) RUNS ROUGH WITH THE OCCASIONAL FEELING IT WANTS TO DIE. I NEED HELP, I BELIEVE THE CATALYTIC AND THE O2 SENSORS ARE GOING BAD. *NM

THE CONSUMER'S DAUGHTER OPENED THE SLIDING DOOR OF THE 2000 QUEST INTENDING TO CLIMB INSIDE. THE HEAVY SLIDING DOOR FELL DOWN AND OUTWARD TOWARDS THE PASSENGER ALMOST INJURING HER. *TS ***NAR*** THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE REPAIRED. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THAT THE REPAIR WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE THE VEHICLE HAD OVER 100,000 MILES ON IT. *NM

WE HAD OUR TIRES ROTATED AND BALANCED ON A FRIDAY. ON SATURDAY MORNING WE ATTEMPTED TO TRAVEL 110 MILES NORTH OF OUR CITY. TRAVELING AT 75 MPH OUR FRONT LEFT BRIDGESTONE TIRE BLEW OUT. WE HAD NO INDICATION OF DRIVING OVER ANYTHING AT THE TIME. WE HAD TRAVELED ABOUT 8 MILES FROM OUR HOME WHEN THIS OCCURRED. *NM

ELECTRICAL WIRING: HEADLIGHTS AND TAILLIGHTS. FIRST THE PASSENGER HEADLIGHT WENT OUT. PRESSING ON THE CONNECTOR WOULD MAKE IT WORK. I DISASSEMBLED CONNECTOR/WIRING AND REASSEMBLED IT. IT HAS BEEN WORKING. NEXT THE DRIVER HEADLIGHT WENT OUT. PRESSING ON THE CONNECTOR WILL MAKE IT WORK. WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING ANOTHER DRIVER INFORMED HER THAT THE TAIL LIGHTS WHERE OUT. NO BLOWN FUSES, BURNT WIRES OR CONNECTORS FOUND. WILL TRY TO CORRECT TODAY. IN ADDITION I FILED A COMPLAINT ON THE RADIO DISPLAY WHICH WENT OUT ONE WEEK AFTER WARRANTY. DEALER WILL NOT COVER RADIO.

YOUR CLOSED DEFECT INVESTIGATION INTO THIS MATTER STATED THAT IT WAS A DEFECTIVE BULB THAT WAS USED UNTIL JULY OF 1999. AFTER BOTH MY HEADLIGHT BULBS WENT OUT SIMULTANEOUSLY IN THE SUMMER OF 2004, MY MECHANIC REPLACED NOT ONLY THE BULBS, BUT THE CONNECTORS TOO. GUESS WHAT? MY HEADLIGHT BULB JUST MELTED IT'S CONNECTOR AGAIN...IN 2005... USING THE "CORRECTED" BULB INDICATED IN YOUR INVESTIGATION. WHY ISN'T NISSAN AND FORD AND THEIR SUPPLIER CORRECTING THIS PROBLEM? IT IS HARD TO GO ON A TRIP OR WORK AT NIGHT WHEN MY OTHER LIGHT MAY GO OUT BEFORE THE OTHER IS FIXED. IT ALSO COST ABOUT $100 TO FIX. *JB

BOTH OF MY HEADLIGHTS JUST STOPPED WORKING AT THE SAME TIME. MY MECHANIC STATED THE CONNECTORS MELTED. WHEN HE TRIED TO OBTAIN THEM FROM NISSAN, HE WAS TOLD THEY NO LONGER ARE AVAILABLE! THIS MAKES ME BELIEVE THAT IT IS INDEED A SAFETY ISSUE IF THEY HAVE STOPPED SELLING THE CONNECTORS. *JB

ONLY THE BOTTOM HINGE WAS KEEPING THE DOOR ATTACHED TO VAN. *MR WHEN OPENED, THE PASSENGER SIDE SLIDING DOOR CAME OUT OF THE TOP TRACKS, LEAVING THE DOOR SUSPENDED ONLY BY THE BOTTOM SLIDING HINGE. THIS WAS WITHOUT WARNING, HOWEVER, THE DRIVER SIDE SLIDING DOOR HAD BEEN EXHIBITING SYMPTOMS OF TROUBLE WITH OPENING. THE ROLLERS IN THE TOP TRACKS HAD APPARENTLY BROKEN OFF THE PINS. WHILE SITTING AT AN INTERSECTION THE VEHICLE WAS REAR ENDED. THIS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO COLLIDE INTO THE VEHICLE IN THE FRONT OF HIM, NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THIS CAUSED THE PASSENGER TO SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE CAUSED HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED. *NM

I CALLED NISSAN CONSUMER THEY ORDER THAT THE CAR GET A NEW TUNE UP ALTHOUGH I HAD ONE IN NOVEMBER AT NO CHARGE TO ME. I HAVE HAD MY FUEL INJECTION WORK DONE 3 TIMES SINCE NOVEMBER. BOTH HEADLIGHTS WILL NOT ILLUMINATE. THE PROBLEM IS NOT THE FUSE AS WHEN YOU PUSH THE WIRES CONNECTED TO THE LIGHTS, THEY WILL ILLUMINATE. AS SOON AS THERE IS ANY VIBRATION THEY GO OUT.
