MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 1999 NISSAN QUEST ON THE INTERSTATE THE FIRST TIME THE DRIVER FRONT BRAKE LOCKED UP. SHE DROVE THE VEHICLE TO STONES RIVER NISSAN OF MURFREESBORO, TN WHERE THEY REPLACED THE BRAKE CALIPERS, HOSES, ROTORS, AND PADS. THE BRAKE PADS WORE OUT AFTER ONLY 8K MILES. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DIFFERENT SHOP TO HAVE A TIRE REPAIRED AND THE PADS REPLACED AND THE DRIVER'S FRONT LOCKED UP AGAIN ON THE TECHNICIAN WHILE ROAD TESTING HIS REPAIR. THIS SHOP INSISTED ON REPLACING THE DRIVER FRONT BRAKE HOSE DESPITE KNOWING IT WAS RELATIVELY NEW. THIS DID NOT WORK & THEY REPLACED THE BRAKE CALIPER (AGAIN) AND GAVE UP AFTER IT LOCKED UP YET AGAIN. THEY TOWED IT TO SR NISSAN, WHO DIAGNOSED A BAD MASTER CYLINDER & REPLACED IT. DRIVER FRONT BRAKE STILL LOCKED UP AT THE SHOP, NOW DIAGNOSING BAD ABS ACTUATOR THEY SAY WAS CAUSED BY THE SEALS INSIDE THE MC DETERIORATING. MY OPINION IS THAT THIS IS A DESIGN DEFECT, IF PARTICULATES FROM A MC CAN FLOAT AND CLOG AN ABS ACTUATOR TO THE POINT THAT LOCKUP OF AN INDIVIDUAL BRAKE OCCURS. ABS IS SUPPOSED TO PREVENT LOCKUP, NOT CAUSE IT. THE BRAKES ARE ACTUALLY FORD DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION. I KNOW SOMEONE WHO ALSO HAD A FORD EXPLORER AND THE PASSENGER FRONT BRAKE LOCKED UP ON HER INTERMITTENTLY LIKE MY WIFE'S HAS. THE ABS ACTUATOR IS NOT AVAILABLE NEW ANYMORE, MY ONLY RECOURSE IS TO INSTALL A JUNK PART WHICH IS MOST LIKELY DEFECTIVE. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL "STICKS" AND YOU HAVE TO PUSH VERY HARD TO GET THE VECHILE TO ACCELERATE, CREATING AN UNSAFE SITUATION WHERE YOU OFTEN HAVE TO ACCERATE TOO FAST UPON TAKEOFF. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH IN A 45 MPH ZONE. A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HER HAD TO MAKE A SUDDEN STOP DUE TO ANOTHER MOTORIST IN FRONT OF IT WAS TURNING LEFT AND SHE APPLIED THE BRAKES AND COULD NOT STOP IN TIME AND SHE REAR ENDED THE DRIVER IN FRONT OF HER. NEITHER AIR BAG DEPLOYED IN THE 1999 NISSAN QUEST. WE HAVE CONTACTED OUR INSURANCE COMPANY (AMERICAN FAMILY) AND THE ADJUSTER SADI THAT THE AIR BAGS SHOULDN'T HAVE DEPLOYED DUE THE CRASH OF THE VEHICLE AND THE WAY IT HIT. MY WIFE SUSTAINED INJURIES OF HER BACK AND NECK IN THIS CRASH AND WE BELIEVE THE AIR BAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. WE CONTACTED NISSAN AND THEY ALSO SAID THE BAGS SHOULD NOT HAVE DEPLOYED DUE TO NOT ENOUGH FORCE OF SOME BALL BEARING USED TO ACTIVATE THE AIR BAGS. THEY (NISSAN) SENT US A VHS TAPE ON AIR BAGS, BUT DECLINED TO SEND SOMEONE OUT TO INVESTIGATE THE VEHICLE. WE STILL HAVE THE VEHICLE IN OUR DRIVEWAY AND WOULD BE GRATEFUL OF ANY AND ALL HELP YOUR AGENCY COULD PROVIDE. *LA

I HAVE A 1999 NISSAN QUEST I BOUGHT NEW AND I WAS NEVER INFORMED BY NISSAN DEALER ABOUT NHTSA ID#S 00V292002- AND MY VEHICLE DO HAVE THE EXACT PROBLEM OF VIBRATING EVEN THOUGH I TOOK IT IN SEVERAL TIMES EVEN ON THE SECOND DAY I BOUGHT IT; # 99V205002 & 99V347002 IF THERE IS A CAMPAIGN OUT TO HAVE THESE SERVICES DONE, SHOULD'NT NISSAN FOLLOW UP ON THESE? I HAD TO CHANGE SEVERAL SETS OF WHEELS, TIRES, ENDLESS BALANCING; FORNT END SHOT TWICE DUE TO HEAVY VIBRATIONS AND NISSAN NEVER FOUND THE ANSWER. I ALSO HAD AND STILL HAVE THE MIRRORS VIBRATING SO BADLY THAT IT'S DIFFICULT TO SEE.

I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM ONCE BEFORE WITH THIS VAN. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY REPAIRED THE PROBLEM AT MY EXPENSE...AND THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THAT THIS HAS OCCURED. DUE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL STICKING, IT HAS BEEN NECESSARY TO CLEAN THE THROTTLE BODY ON TWO OCCASIONS. I CONSIDER THIS PROBLEM A SAFETY ISSUE AS THE VEHICLE LURCHES FORWARD WHEN SUFFICIENT PRESSURE IS APPLIED TO THE PETAL THAT WILL OVERRIDE THE STUCK THROTTLE. THE FORWARD LUNGE WILL BECOME ACUTE IF CLEANING IS DELAYED. I EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE 36 MONTH WARRANTY PERIOD HAD EXPIRED (I NOW UNDERSTAND THAT THE WARRANTY PERIOD WAS EXTENDED BUT WITHOUT ANY NOTICE TO THE VEHICLE OWNERS).*AK MY DISAPPOINTMENT IN NISSAN IS: 1.NO NOTICE WAS RECEIVED TO ALERT OWNERS OF A SAFETY ISSUE OF THIS MAGNITUDE. 2.THAT NO RECALL NOTICE WAS RECEIVED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM AND 3.THAT NO NOTICE WAS RECEIVED TO ADVISE OWNERS THAT THE WARRANTY PERIOD HAD BEEN EXTENDED AND TO BRING THEIR VEHICLE IN FOR A THROTTLE BODY INSPECTION.

STICKING THROTTLE CAUSED BY BUILD-UP OF SOOT, CARBON, GUM, OR WHATEVER IT IS IN THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. THE THROTTLE REQUIRES EXCESS PRESSURE TO OVERCOME ITS STICKING. THEN, WHEN IT UNSTICKS, THE VEHICLE LURCHES FORWARD FASTER THAN EXPECTED. THIS CAN BE A VERY UNSAFE REACTION AT TIMES, DEPENDING ON THE SITUATION. IT IS ALSO VERY HARD ON MY WIFE'S NECK; SHE HAS HAD A CERVICAL DISCECTOMY AND FUSION. I HAVE RECEIVED A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT WHICH PROPOSES REIMBURSEMENT FOR THROTTLE BODY CLEANINGS OR REPLACEMENTS AND FREE FUTURE CLEANINGS/REPLACEMENTS DURING THE MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY PERIOD. ALL THIS IS WONDERFUL AND GOOD FOR THE ORIGINAL OWNER(S) --- AT LEAST DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD --- BUT DOES NOTHING TO IMPROVE SAFETY! WHAT IF YOU WRECK TAKING THE CAR TO THEIR SHOP?
