I have a 2015 LR4 with 103k miles. Out of nowhere, engine started making a loud clicking noise. No warning lights, car up to this point had been driving perfectly. Then low coolant and oil signals came on the next day, but no signs of leaking. Added some oil and coolant to get it to a mechanic ( stopped driving it once the noise started). Upon next start up, plume of white smoke. Final verdict was an overheated engine and that it was done. I had pumps replaced 2 years ago, regular service and maintenance.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM Sep 13, 2024
Fuel leaking under vehicle while parked . Previous recall for fuel filler tube completed. Since completion, strong gas odor was evident when tank was filled and in garage. Vehicle returned to dealer after the gas odor occurred after every tank fill. Vehicle returned to service center that did recall, as no issues existed prior to recall. I was told there was nothing wrong with the recall repair. I then went and immediately filled the tank and returned to same service area. I was told, still no problem. Vehicle taken to a different dealer after realizing gas was leaking onto the garage floor and repaired at my expense…$1,426.02. It seemed enough of an urgent safety concern to have it immediately fixed. I basically was told to live with the smell at the original dealership.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM Jul 15, 2021
Started as fuel odor and then developed into a significant fuel leak from the fuel tank. Looks like it was the fuel tank flange. We had an extended warranty that covered the repair however the vehicle has only 36000 miles and this failure was extremely dangerous.

HAD SURGERY ON LEG SO WAS SITTING IN BACKSEAT BEHIND THE PASSENGER SEAT. I WAS SITTING SIDEWAYS TO KEEP MY LEG ELEVATED. WHEN WE ARRIVED AT OUR CABIN AND THE CAR WAS PARKED....I SPUN AROUND TO NORMAL SEATING POSITION TO REMOVE THE SEAT BELT AND GET OUT OF THE CAR. HOWEVER, THE SEAT BELT TENSIONER KEPT GETTING TIGHTER AND TIGHTER WITH EACH MOVEMENT I MADE. I WAS THINKING THIS IS CRAZY..THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING..IT HAS TO EVENTUALLY RELEASE THE TENSION. IT DID NOT. IT KEPT GETTING TIGHTER UNTIL I WAS PINNED INTO THE DOOR JAMB WITH IT STRANGLING ME AROUND MY NECK. MY PARTNER HELPED PULL IT DOWN OFF MY NECK WHILE I HELD THE SEATBELT FROM TIGHTENING FURTHER. HE THEN RAN INTO THE CABIN AND GRABBED A PAIR OF SCISSORS TO CUT ME OUT. I AM A 220 LB FIT SHAPE 6'-2" TALL MALE.

ENGINE Mar 24, 2015
APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH AND 900 MILES INTO DRIVING MY NEW LR4, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AND I COULD HEAR A LOUD FAN RUNNING. I CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED IT WAS LIKELY A MINOR FAULT IN THE GAS TANK CAP AND TO STOP BY FOR THE ERROR CODE TO BE CHECKED AT MY CONVENIENCE. WHEN I VISITED THE DEALER, THE CODE INDICATED A COOLANT TEMPERATURE ISSUE. THE SERVICE ADVISOR CLEARED THE CODE AND SAID THAT THE FAULT WAS LIKELY JUST THE VEHICLE "BREAKING IN" AND TO RETURN IF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON AGAIN. ABOUT ONE MONTH AND ANOTHER 900 MILES LATER, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. THIS TIME, AFTER KEEPING THE CAR FOR A WEEK TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM, THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS A DEFECT AFFECTING ALL NEW LR4'S. APPARENTLY, THE THERMOSTAT WAS DESIGNED IN SUCH A WAY THAT REQUIRES THREE WIRES, AND ONLY TWO WIRES ARE ACTUALLY FED TO THAT COMPONENT. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE DETECTS THE ENGINE OVERHEATING WHEN IT IS ACTUALLY RUNNING NORMALLY. THE DEALER SAID THAT NO FIX CURRENTLY EXISTS, BUT THEY WERE EXPECTING ONE IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS. THE DEALER OFFERED TO BUY THE VEHICLE BACK FROM ME. THE DEALER SAID HE HAD NO OTHER LR4'S TO OFFER ME SINCE THE ENTIRE INVENTORY OF NEW LR4'S HAVE THE SAME DESIGN DEFECT AND A RECALL WOULD BE ISSUED. FOR THE TIME BEING, I CHOSE TO KEEP THE VEHICLE, BUT TWO WEEKS HAVE PASSED, AND THERE IS STILL NO WORD ON THE STATUS OF THE REPAIR. *TR
