On three different occasions earlier this year 2025, my car electric system would completely shut down. My safety was put at risk because this would often happen while I was driving. After three different diagnoses at two different dealerships, the San Francisco dealership found that there was a fuse shortage and it was an electrical problem. They were able to fix it and I paid out of pocket. Now, in July 2025, I was again on the road driving when I get an error message on the dash: emission system, problem, and cooling system problem. I was not able to accelerate my car. Again my safety was at risk. I had to stop on the street, turned off my car, and when I tried turning it back on, the engine would not start, but the electric system was fine. My car is a 2017 hybrid Honda Accord – it is way too new to be having all of these issues. I always take my car for maintenance regularly and my car is in good condition.

The contact owns a 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid. The contact stated while driving at various speeds several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the warning lights remained illuminated constantly. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that there were no electrical failures with the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred. Additionally, the contact stated that the cruise control was inoperable. The manufacturer was informed of the failure; however, after a request for additional information from the manufacturer, the contact was never called back. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.
During particularly hot days when you first start the car the audio system suddenly lets out an extremely loud static noise that does not go away, even if you turn down the volume to zero, or turn off the system completely. It is very jarring and a dangerous distraction while driving. It has not been seen by a dealer, but online testimonies show they only opt to replace the unit out of the consumer's pocket. No warning messages pop up.
Clarion Radio head, Honda part 39101-T3W-A71. Radio is removed from car at this point and may be inspected, awaiting service. Speakers produce full volume static, especially correlated to a hot day. Static is unavoidable, occurs whether or not system is powered on or off. Source input also does not matter. Restarting car also does not fix issue. Safety is at risk by causing hearing loss and distracted/inattentive driving. Car is not drivable as long as this full volume static is occurring. Honda surely knows about this issue, there are wide reports of this issue on you tube and online discussion boards.
We are writing to bring to your attention a concerning issue with our 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid EX-L, which we purchased from the SF Honda dealership. Over the past few weeks, we’ve experienced a loud static noise coming from the audio unit — even when the audio is turned off. The only way to stop the noise is to put the car in park, turn it off, and restart it. Unfortunately, this solution is inconsistent, as the noise sometimes persists even after restarting. The sound is deafening and extremely distracting, which raises serious safety concerns for us. This is not just an inconvenience — it’s a significant hazard while driving. After researching the issue online, we discovered that this appears to be a known problem among Honda owners. Here is a video that reflects exactly what we’re experiencing: [XXX] . Given the safety implications, we are very concerned and would appreciate your assistance in looking into this safety issue. We have brought this to the attention of our local dealership, as well as Honda corporate offices. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The car emits a very loud noise through the speakers. This is NOT a radio issue. The noise cannot be stopped by turning off the radio. The noise is extremely loud, so loud you cannot hear police or fire sirens, anyone honking or even someone trying to get your attention from outside the vehicle. This is a known problem to Honda, but the company considers it a problem with the stereo system and not a danger. Let me tell you, it IS a danger. Imagine not being able to hear Emergency Alerts while driving toward a tornado or powerful storm. Or not being able to hear a police or ambulance siren due to the noise coming through the speakers. Again, the stereo system is off, there is no phone connected to the system but the loud static persists until you turn the car off. It then comes back after a minute or two of driving. Honda North American requested I have a diagnostic done at the dealership to confirm the issue with the Head Unit. That costs 200 dollars, but I did it, even though there are multiple complaints online and with the company on this same issue. The dealer replicated the issue. There are no warnings about the problem until the sound overwhelms the driver. It takes about a minute to begin and WILL NOT STOP. I can provide video upon request.
The driver side air bag did not deploy, however, the passenger side air bag ceployed when we hit a deer at 70 mph! Both air bags should have deployed since we hit the deer in the center of the car! My wife an I are very lucky to be alive! The insurance company inspected the car and considered it to be totaled. The sheriffs department also made an accident report! No warning lights were on at all, I just had the car tuned up and it was in good working condition! Air bags not deploying could be a Hugh issue for Honda in the future! Send me an email and I will scan the information in and send it to you!

On [XXX] just got off [XXX] driving on [XXX] street when there a red came on on my dashboard, then as if someone else stepped on my accelarator. The Honda Accord 2017 hybrid started accelerating. There were cars in front of me, I believed next to me that I am going to crash into. My only option was to turn to the left to stop the car from me hitting another driver. I went into the divider and hit a tree which stopped the car. My car is in the body shop right now pending estimate and insurance recommendation. R&B Body shop 562 903 1100. Allstate claim # [XXX]. This is a dangerous problem and I expect Honda to have a major recall some day, unfortunately not today. Symptoms were two things, 1) ACC when on would not slow down with another car in front, it just kept accelerating into the car until I put on the brakes. Crazy dangerous. 2) The collision warning light would come on and beep loudly when there was no possibility of collision. Required replacing the radar unit, $5000 at the dealer. Dealer tech said that this unit is connected to every control system, brakes, steering, etc. Very dangerous to drive without a correctly functioning radar. If I could, I would just turn those features off, but there is no way to do that. Besides, I like those features. Car is 5 years old; my last payment is in August!

As I was driving straight about 40 Mph, the steering assist failure warning, lane assist failure warning, and power steering failure warnings all came on at the same time. Had I been going around a curve or turning I would've crashed, because the steering locked up and it was extremely difficult to steer. The failures and electronic warnings cleared as I was driving the car to the dealer the following morning.

THE BRAKES FAILED WHILE DRIVING. WHILE DRIVING AS A SLOW SPEED (FORTUNATELY) I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND ALL THE DASH FAULTS CAME ON AND THE BRAKED FAILED TO WORK. I HAD TO USE THE E-BRAKE TO STOP. I TURNED THE CAR OFF, BACK ON, THE FAULTS CLEARED AND THE BRAKES WORK. THIS COULD BECOME A DEADLY CRASH IF IT OCCURS AT HIGH SPEED AND THE NEED TO STOP ABRUPTLY HAPPENS.
ALL FOUR DOOR LOCKS HAVE FAILED ON THE VEHICLE, NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. THE FIRST DOOR LOCK - REAR PASSENGER - FAILED IN THE FIRST TWO YEARS OF OWNING THE CAR. IT WAS REPLACED AT HONDA DEALERSHIP UNDER WARRANTY. THE DOOR LOCK FAILED AGAIN ABOUT A YEAR LATER. THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR LOCK AND REAR DRIVER DOOR LOCK FAILED THEREAFTER. ALL THREE HAVE BEEN REPLACED. NOW DRIVER DOOR LOCK HAS FAILED NECESSITATING A REPLACEMENT. ADDITIONALLY, TRUNK LOCK HAS FAILED WHICH NEEDED TO ALSO BE REPLACED.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO WHITE PLAINS HONDA (16 BANK ST, WHITE PLAINS, NY) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TANDEM MOTOR CYLINDER WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.

WHEN YOU ACCELERATE ON THE GAS THE CAR JUMPS AND YOU CAN FEEL IT IN THE GAS PEDAL. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO HONDA AND THEY CAN NOT FIGURE IT OUT SINCE NO ONE ELSE HAS COMPLAINED ABOUT IT. DOESN'T JUMP ALL THE TIME BUT MOSTLY WHEN I AM OVER 40 MPH, SOMETIMES IT HAS JUMPED AS SOON AS I HAVE TAKEN OFF
MANY NEW CARS ARE NOW EQUIPPED WITH DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS. I HAVE EXPERIENCED MANY DRIVERS INCLUDING MYSELF, WHO HAVE STARTED OUT DRIVING AT DUSK AND NOT REALIZED THAT THEY ARE DRIVING WITH THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS ON ONLY. THE VEHICLES TAILLIGHTS ARE NOT OPERABLE WITH ONLY THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS ACTIVATED. I JUST RECENTLY APPROACHED A VEHICLE ON A POORLY LIT ROADWAY THAT DID NOT HAVE ANY TAIL LAMPS ACTIVATED. THIS SEEMS TO BE A BUILT IN DANGER WITH THE NEW VEHICLES.
IT'S 2017 HONDA ACCORD HYBRID EXL. I AM DRIVING IN NEW YORK HIGHWAY. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 40/45 MPH IN HIGHWAY AND ALL IN SUDDEN I SAW A MESSAGE IN THE DASHBOARD IS SAYING " BREAK SYSTEM PROBLEM" "LANE DEPARTURE SYSTEM PROBLEM ", "AUTOMATIC CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM PROBLEM" AND "COLLUSION MIGRATION SYSTEM PROBLEM". I THOUGHT ITS MAYBE SOMETHING THAT GONNA GO AWAY AFTER RESTARTING THE CAR. BUT IT DIDN'T. I WENT TO THE GARAGE TO SEE WHAT IS THE PROBLEM THEN CHECK ON THE MACHINE AND ITS SHOWING ERROR CODE: P258364 MILLIMETER WAVE RADAR AIMING ERROR. AND IT DOES NOT CLEAR. THE PROBLEM STILL IN THE CAR.
AUTOMATIC BRAKING SYSTEM BROUGHT THE CAR TO FULL STOP AS I WAS ACCELERATING WHEN A LIGHT CHANGED FROM RED TO GREEN. THERE WAS NO RISK OF HITTING ANYTHING IN FRONT OF THE CAR. SPEED WAS ABOUT 10-15 MPH WHEN THE CAR PUT ON THE BRAKES. I WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED BY THE CAR BEHIND ME. THE CAR WOULD NOT GIVE CONTROL TO THE ACCELERATOR FOR SEVERAL SECONDS. MY FOOT WAS OFF THE BRAKE. IN ADDITION, THE AUTOMATIC BRAKING SYSTEM OFTEN GIVES FALSE POSITIVES SUCH AS WHEN DRIVING AT NORMAL SPEED (30-50 MPH) ON A 2-LANE ROAD (ONE LANE EACH DIRECTION, YELLOW SOLID LINES SEPARATING THE TRAFFIC) AND THE ROAD CURVES AND AN ON-COMING VEHICLE IS CORRECTLY AND SAFELY IN THEIR OWN LANE.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN A ROAD NEAR A CONSTRUCTION SITE, I SLOWED DOWN BECAUSE THE CARE IN FRONT OF ME MADE A QUICK RIGHT HAND TURN. THE BRAKE LIGHT SENSOR WENT OFF AND IT SELF BRAKED. THE CAR IN FRONT HAD ALREADY MADE THE RIGHT HAND TURN WHEN THE CAR SELF BRAKED TO A FULL STOP. I COULDN'T GET IT TO STOP. THE GUY BEHIND ME ALMOST HIT ME, BUT I COULDN'T GET THE CAR TO STOP BREAKING AND GO SO THE GUY BEHIND ME WOULD'T HIT ME. LUCKILY I DIDN'T GET HIT. BUT THE SELF BREAKING SYSTEM IS MAKING ME NERVOUS. I WANTED TO ADD THAT IT HAD BEEN RAINING PREVIOUSLY IN THE DAY AND IT WAS SORT OF OVER CAST. THE CARE WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET GOING STRAIGHT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 HONDA ACCORD HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE BRAKES FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE EVEN WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALL THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INDICATORS ILLUMINATED, INCLUDING THE BRAKE INDICATOR. THE CONTACT MANAGED TO SHUT OFF, RESTART, AND MOVE THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO HERB CHAMBERS HONDA OF WESTBOROUGH (774-760-0500, LOCATED AT 350 TURNPIKE ROAD, RTE 9, WESTBOROUGH, MA 01581) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE SIMULATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE PART WAS ON BACKORDER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 32,000. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.
WHEN I REACHED 42K MILES ON THIS VEHICLE, THE DASHBOARD DISPLAY PANEL WENT BLANK WHILE DRIVING RENDERING MOST OF THE SAFETY FEATURES LOST INCLUDING THE REVERSE CAMERA, TURN CAMERA, BLUETOOTH FUNCTIONS, GAS CONSUMPTION INDICATIONS, RADIO AND CLOCK FUNCTIONS ETC.. WHEN I CONTACTED AMERICAN HONDA HEADQUARTERS I WAS TOLD THAT I NEED TO TAKE THE CAR TO A SERVICE FACILITY AND AS I HAVE PASSED 36K MILEAGE I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE REPAIR. I TRIED TO CONVEY THEM THAT THE FAULT HAS TO BE AN INHERENT MALFUNCTIONING OR CORRUPTION OF THE HONDA'S ELECTRONIC SYSTEM COMPONENTS RATHER THAN EXTRANEOUS WEAR THAT CAN BE ATTRIBUTED TO MY USE OF THIS VEHICLE. NO, THEY WON'T ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY. I GOT THE 'CENTER AUDIO DISPLAY', REPLACED AT A COST OF $446.37 PLUS $70.61 FOR THE DIAGNOSIS.
I PURCHASED THIS CAR AND NOTICED THE DRIVE AND PASSENGER LED LIGHT BARS CONTINUE TO BURN OUT, EVEN AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRES. WHEN TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY WILL NOT HONOR REPLACEMENTS AFTER WARRANTY. REPLACEMENT COSTS ARE~1700. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH HONDA ON THESE VEHICLES AND SHOULD BE COVERED UNTIL PERMANENT FIX IS FOUND.
EXPERIENCED BRAKE FAILURE ON APRIL 21, 2019 WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. TRAFFIC WAS SLOWING DOWN ON THE HIGHWAY DUE TO CONSTRUCTION AND I WENT TO APPLY THE BRAKE, BUT THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND SEVERAL WARNING LIGHTS FLASHED ON THE DASHBOARD. I MANAGED TO GET OFF ON AN EXIT RAMP AND SLOWED THE CAR DOWN BY TURNING THE CAR OFF AND USING THE PARKING BRAKE. I MANAGED TO PULL INTO A NEARBY PARKING LOT AND WAITED FOR A TOW TRUCK TO TAKE ME AND THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP. ON APRIL 22, 2019 THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL SIMULATOR. THIS PART HAD TO BE ORDER WHICH TOOK 7 DAYS FOR THE REPAIR TO OCCUR. I PICKED UP THE CAR ON APRIL 30, 2019 AND DROVE BACK TO WORK USING THE HIGHWAY (DETROIT TO LANSING). UPON EXITING THE RAMP TO WORK, THE BRAKES FAILED AGAIN. SEVERAL WARNING FLASHED ON THE DASHBOARD THAT I HAVE ATTACHED TO THIS COMPLAINT: BRAKE SYSTEM PROBLEM, VEHICLE STABILITY ASSIST PROBLEM, HILL START ASSIST PROBLEM, COLLISION MITIGATION SYSTEM PROBLEM, ROAD DEPARTURE MITIGATION SYSTEM PROBLEM AND ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL PROBLEM. I WAS NOT USING CRUISE CONTROL WHEN I WAS DRIVING BACK TO WORK. THE CAR WAS TOWED AGAIN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP THE WITHIN HOURS THAT I PICKED IT UP. THE DEALERSHIP IS NOW CLAIMING THAT THE TANDEM MOTOR ANGLE CYLINDER WILL NEED TO BE REPLACE AND I WILL HAVE TO PAY ANOTHER $100.00 (DEDUCTIBLE) TO FIX THE PROBLEM.
SOMETIMES THE CAR STARTS WHEN I USE THE PUSH TO START BUTTON MOST TIMES IT DOESN'T. I HAVE A TO CARRY A PORTABLE BATTERY SO I WON'T GET STUCK AT WHATEVER DESTINATION I ARRIVE. I HAD THE BATTERY CHECKED. NOTHING IS WRONG WITH BATTERY
WHILE SLOWING DOWN TO MAKE A TURN, WARNINGS STARTED POPPING UP ON THE DRIVER DISPLAY LISTING NUMEROUS FAILURES AND THE BRAKE SYSTEM FAILED. "ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL PROBLEM', 'BRAKE SYSTEM PROBLEM", "VEHICLE STABILITY ASSIST PROBLEM", "COLLISION MITIGATION SYSTEM PROBLEM", "ROAD DEPARTURE MITIGATION SYSTEM PROBLEM", ETC. THIS HAPPENED 3 TIMES OVER THE NEXT 15 MINUTES AS WE TRIED TO MAKE OUR WAY HOME. LUCKILY WE WERE ON LOCAL ROADS AT LOWER SPEEDS'LESS THAN 40.THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED MY HUSBAND WAS BREAKING WHILE APPROACHING A RED LIGHT AT ABOUT 5-10 MPH BUT WE BARELY STOPPED IN TIME. THERE WAS A VERY MINIMAL STOPPING POWER. WE TURNED INTO A PARKING LOT AND CALLED HONDA. THE REP SAID 'YES THAT WAS A RANDOM PROBLEM AND TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND RESTART. THE PROBLEM WILL BE FIXED.' HOWEVER IT HAPPENED 2 MORE TIMES ON THAT OUTING. I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR AND I USE IT OFTEN TO TRANSPORT MY GRANDKIDS.
THERE HAVE BEEN THREE INSTANCES OF TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE. INITIAL INSTANCE OCCURED ON VEHICLE STARTUP, A NUMBER OF ERRORS WERE GIVEN INCLUDING "AADAPTIVE CRUISE CONRTOL PROBLEM","COLLISSION MITIGATION SYSTEM PROBLEM","ROAD DEPARTURE MITIGATION SYSTEM PROBLEM" AND "BRAKE SYSTEM PROBLEM". WHEN I PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE IT IMMEDIATELY BEGAN MOVING FORWARD. CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALER WHERE HONDA BLAMED THE ISSUE ON THE UNDERCAOTING CAUSING COMPONENTS TO OVERHEAT. THIS WAS OCTOBER 2018 IN PHILADELPHIA. REPLACED BRAKE SYSTEM AND REMOVED UNDERCOAT ON AFFECTED AREAS. SECOND INSTANCE OCCURED IN FEBRUARY 2019 IT HAD STOPPED RAINING BUT ROAD WAS STILL WET AND HAD PUDDLES. DRIVING DOWNTOWN, AT A YELLOW LIGHT BRAKES COMPLETELY FAILED, I RAN THE LIGHT AND WAS ABLE TO STOP WITH EMERGENCY BRAKE. CAR WAS GIVING THE SAME SET OF ERRORS. THIS TIME RESTARTING THE CAR MADE ERRORS GO AWAY. BROUGHT TO THE DEALER, THEY SAID THEY DID A SOFTWARE UPDATE BUT COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM SO DID NOTHING ELSE. THIRD INSTANCE WAS FEBRUARY 2ND, WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 30-40 MPH, AGAIN EITHER AFTER RAIN HAD STOPPED OR STILL HAD A SLIGHT DRIZZLE. THIS TIME I SAW THE ERRORS WHILE DRIVING BEFORE I NEEDED TO BREAK AND RECOGNIZED THE ISSUE. MANAGED TO USE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO PULL OVER. AGAIN RESTARTING THE CAR CLEARED THE ISSUE, I HAVE NOT BROUGHT BACK TO THE DEALER YET.
TOOK CAR IN FOR ALIGNMENT, THE LEFT REAR CAMBER IS OUT OF SPECIFICATION @ -2.2 DEGREES. THE SPECIFICATION IS -1.0 TO -2.0. WAS ADVISED THE MANUFACTURER DOES NOT SPECIFY A REAR CAMBER ADJUSTMENT METHOD. WAS ADVISED AN AFTERMARKET KIT WAS AVAILABLE TO CORRECT CAMBER WHICH HONDA WILL NOT HONOR UNDER WARRANTEE. EXCESSIVE CAMBER WILL LEAD TO PREMATURE TIRE WEAR ISSUES.
TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR SYSTEM LIGHT STAYS LIT WITHOUT ANY VALID CONDITION TO CAUSE IT. DEALER HAS RESET IT TWICE, BUT LIGHT RELIGHTS WITHIN 20 MINUTES OF DRIVE TIME. CONSTANT INDICATION MASKED AN ACTUAL TIRE FAILURE WHICH COULD HAVE LED TO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. TIRE DEALER REPLACED RUINED TIRE, RECHECKED ALL TIRE PRESSURES AND RESET ALARM, BUT AGAIN IT RE-LIT WITHIN 20 MINUTES OF DRIVING TIME.
