I BOUGHT THIS USED SUV ON MAY 14, 2019 WITH 87,420 MILES. IN THREE OCCASIONS THE DISPLAY ON THE DASHBOARD HAS SHOWN, WITH NO AUDIBLE SOUND, THE MESSAGE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WILL THEN SHUT DOWN. ALL TIMES HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. I NOTICED THAT THE AIR CONDITION SHUT ITSELF OFF, THEN I SAW THE DISPLAY MESSAGE. IF I WOULD NOT HAVE SEEN THE DISPLAY MESSAGE, THE CAR WOULD HAVE STOPPED WITHIN 400 FEET. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION AS I WOULD NOT HAVE TIME TO CHANGE TO THE EMERGENCY LANE, LEAVING A STOPPED CAR ON THE FAST LANE. I NOW KEEP LOOKING GLANCING AT THE DASHBOARD WORRIED THAT THE DISPLAY WILL APPEAR AGAIN. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO THE DEALER TWO TIMES. THE FIRST TIME THEY TOLD ME THAT A SCANNER SHOWED NO PROBLEMS. NOW THE CAR IS AT THE DEALER FOR A SECOND TIME WHERE THEY ARE DOING MORE TESTING. I JUST DO NOT HAVE ANY MORE CONFIDENCE ON THIS CAR. THE DASHBOARD HAS ALSO SHOWN A DISPLAY "SEE MANUAL".

LIGHT CAME ON SAYING SERVICE POWER STEERING. ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER IT. WAS TOLD BY THE FORD DEALER IT IS A $2,000.00 FIX. RESEARCH SHOWED ME THAT OTHER MODELS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND WERE LISTED AS A RECALL BUT THERE ISN'T ENOUGH DOCUMENTATION YET ON THE C-MAX'S TO WARRANT INCLUDING THEM. AT 55,000 MILES THAT SEEMS VERY EARLY TO HAVE THIS KIND OF PROBLEM. WE LOVE OUR C-MAX BUT THIS IS A DEFINITE CONCERN WHEN YOUR ON SOCIAL SECURITY 2,000 IS A BIG EXPENSE FOR A FOX AT 50 SOMR THOUSAND MILES. RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED. [ ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED. I PURCHASED MY CAR USED FROM A DEALERSHIP IN APRIL OF 2016. I LEASED THE SAME MODEL PREVIOUSLY WITH NO PROBLEMS. I WENT OUT OF TOWN FOR AN EXTENDED TIME AND CAME BACK TO FIND THE BATTERY DEAD. I WAS SURPRISED, AS I OFTEN TRAVEL AND HAD NO PROBLEMS LIKE THIS WITH THE OTHER C-MAX. I CALLED A SERVICE, THEY GOT IT STARTED (WITH SOME DIFFICULTY) I DROVE IT FOR ABOUT 45 MINUTES AND IT SEEMED FINE. SEVERAL MONTHS PASSED AND I WENT AWAY, CAME BACK AND CAR WAS DEAD. AAA STARTED IT. I DROVE IT FOR SOME MILES, THEN STOPPED IT . IT WOULDN'T START. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. IT WAS SUNDAY, SO THEY WERE CLOSED. THEY WENT OUT THE NEXT MORNING AND IT STARTED. THEY WENT THROUGH MY CAR AND COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS. IT DROVE FINE FOR SEVERAL MONTHS, AND I WENT OUT OF TOWN AGAIN FOR EXTENDED TIME. CAME BACK-CAR WOULDN'T START. THIS TIME I HAD PURCHASED A BATTERY CHARGER, IN CASE THIS HAPPENED AGAIN, BUT IT WAS NOT POWERFUL ENOUGH TO GET THE CAR GOING. CALLED AAA AND THEY STARTED THE CAR. I DROVE THE CAR FOR ABOUT 1 HOUR, ON THE FREEWAY, CAME HOME AND EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE. DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT "SOMETHING MUST BE DRAINING THE BATTERY" BUT COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM. TODAY, 2 WEEKS LATER, MY CAR IS ONCE AGAIN NOT STARTING. I NOTICED YESTERDAY EVENING, THAT EVERYTIME I GOT IN THE CAR, IT WOULD NOT START. A MESSAGE WOULD COME ON SAYING IT WAS SHUTTING DOWN TO SAVE THE BATTERY. A BLUE LINE WOULD APPEAR AND WHEN IT HAD "LOADED" ALL THE WAY, I COULD START MY CAR. TODAY IT IS TOTALLY DEAD, AND WOULDN'T START EVEN WITH A "JUMP". SO I AM STUCK UNTIL MONDAY. EVEN IF I GET IT STARTED, I DON'T TRUST THAT IT WON'T START THE NEXT TIME I TURN IT OFF.
STEERING Mar 15, 2019
FOR SEVERAL MONTHS, AT STARTUP, POWER STEERING HAD A DELAY FOR A FEW SECONDS, THEN PERFORMED NORMALLY. YESTERDAY THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND STAYED OUT. ABOUT 10 SECONDS INTO THE FAILURE, RECEIVED AN ALERT TONE AND A "SERVICE STEERING SOON" MESSAGE. WITHOUT POWER STEERING THIS CAR IS MUCH HARDER TO STEER THAN ANY CAR WITH POWER STEERING FAILURE I HAVE OWNED. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT, BUT GINGERLY AND WITH GREAT EFFORT. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON A HIGHWAY IT PROBABLY WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN AS BAD, ASSISTED SOMEWHAT BY ROLLING OF THE WHEELS, BUT AT HIGHER SPEED I WOULD ADDITIONALLY HAVE TO OVERCOME THE CENTRIPETAL FORCE OF ROTATION. IT WOULD BE MOST DANGEROUS IF IT HAD FAILED IN A TURN. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THE ELECTRONIC POWER ASSISTED STEERING MODULE WAS SHORTING OUT AND THE ENTIRE SYSTEM HAD TO BE REPLACED AND REPROGRAMMED. THE REPAIR COST IS $2000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. I WENT TO OPEN THE HATCH OF MY 2013 FORD CMAX HYBRID AND THE LATCH COMPLETELY CAME OFF. IT WAS DANGLING BY THE LICENSE PLATE LIGHTS CORDS. I HAD TO PUT PACKING TAPE ON IT UNTIL I GOT HOME. I CALLED THE DEALER AND HE SAID TO BRING THE CAR IN. THERE IS NO REASON WHY THAT PART SHOULD HAVE CAME OFF WHEN I WENT TO LIFT THE HATCH OPEN. THEN I GOT THE WARNING LIGHT THAT THE HATCH WAS NOT CLOSED. SO I HAD TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO OPEN UP THE BROKEN LIFT IN ORDER TO GET THE HATCH SHUT. THE CAR WAS PARKED WHEN I WENT TO OPEN THE HATCH

UPON STARTING MY CAR, I WAS AWARE THAT THERE WAS NO SOUNDS--NO AUDIO, INCLUDING WARNING BEEPS, GPS VOICE, RADIO, ETC. I WENT TO FORD SERVICE AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD REQUIRE TESTING NUMEROUS MODULES. IT WAS COSTLY, SO I OPTED NOT TO HAVE IT CHECKED. THE CAR WAS UNUSED AND IN MY GARAGE FOR TWO DAYS. ON THE THIRD DAY WHEN I GOT IN THE CAR, IT WAS COMPLETELY DEAD. A TOWING SERVICE CAME, JUMP STARTED MY CAR, AND I DROVE IT TO FORD. I HAD TO LEAVE IT OVERNIGHT. THE NEXT AFTERNOON, THE FORD SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME IT STARTED UP WITH NO PROBLEM THE FOLLOWING MORNING. SERVICE TESTED EVERYTHING. THERE WERE NO FAULTY CODES, NO RECORD OF A PROBLEM. I WAS GIVEN A DISCOUNT OFF THE FULL PRICE, ALTHOUGH NOTHING WAS RESOLVED. ON CARCOMPLAINTS.COM I FOUND THAT MANY OTHER OWNERS OF THE FORD C-MAX HYBRID HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. FORD HAS NO ANSWERS.

TWO MONTHS AGO THE SYNC WOULD NOT RESPOND. I WAS UNABLE TO MAKE OR RECEIVE CALLS, CHANGE THE VOLUME NOR TURN OFF THE RADIO. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. TWO DAYS LATER I DROVE MY VEHICLE TO WORK, PARKED IT AND WENT INSIDE. AFTER MY SHIFT MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND TO THE FOB. I REMOVED THE MANUAL KEY AND ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE. THE ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OVER. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY DID A 120 POINT INSPECTION. THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE AND DID A MASTER RESET. I CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY TOLD ME TO RESOLVE IT WITH MY DEALERSHIP. I INFORMED FORD THAT I HAD READ ABOUT THIS PROBLEM ONLINE AND THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE WITH OWNERS OF FORD CMAX AND FORD FOCUS. THE VEHICLES SIMPLY DIE AND THE DEALERSHIPS CANNOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE TOLD ME THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND AGAIN REFERRED ME TO MY DEALERSHIP. THREE WEEKS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. MY VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN FRONT OF MY APARTMENT. I HAD JUST RETURNED FROM THE STORE AND NEEDED TO RUN MORE ERRANDS TWO HOURS LATER. THE VOLUME ON MY RADIO WAS NOT RESPONSIVE. I COULD NOT CHANGE THE VOLUME NOR TURN THE RADIO OFF. I IMMEDIATELY WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP. AGAIN, THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND SIMPLY DID A MASTER RESET. THE ISSUE WAS NEVER RESOLVED AND I'M AFRAID THIS COULD HAPPEN EVERY MONTH.
