THE FRONT SEAT RECLINER MECHANISM LOWER BOLTS CAN LOOSEN. A LOOSE BOLT COULD FATIGUE AND BREAK, RESULTING IN THE SEAT BACK FALLING REARWARD.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL TIGHTEN OR REPLACE THE BOLTS AT NO CHARGE TO THE OWNERS. THIS POLICY IS IN EFFECT UNTIL JUNE 30, 2002.

DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED. THERE IS A RECALL 97V058000 CONCERNING REAR ENGINE CRADLE BOLTS; HOWEVER, CONSUMERS VEHICLE NOT AFFECTED DUE TO VIN. *AK
THERE IS A RECAL LISTED ON THIS VEHICLE FOR THIS PROBLEM AND WE ALSO RECEIVED A RECAL NOTICE FROM MANIFACTURING. THEY NOW SAY THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. THE BOLTS APPARENTLY LOOSEN AND CAN BREAK CAUSING SEAT TO FALL BACK WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED TO US. AT LEAST WE WERE NO MOVING WHEN THE SEAT/BOLT BROKE.*AK

A HORRIFYING EXPERIENCE! THE TILT-STEERING LOCKING MECHANISM DISENGAGED IN A TIGHT STEERING MANEUVER IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. LOCKING MECH. THEN WAS TOTALLY INOPERATIVE. STEERING WHEEL TILTED UP AND DOWN FREELY, AND TILTED SLIGHTLY TO LEFT. VEHICLE DID RESPOND TO STEERING, BUT WAS VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. AS A CAREER RELIABILITY ENGINEER/QUALITY MANAGER, I ASSESS THIS AS A LIFE-THREATENING MAJOR FAILURE THAT NEVER SHOULD HAPPEN. MANUFACTURER'S CUSTOMER REP IGNORED MY COMPLAINT ON EXCUSE THAT "VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY." I PAID HIGHLY FOR REPAIR; YET CHEVY HAS A SAFETY PROBLEM. PLEASE DO INVESTIGATE THIS TYPE FAILURE.

WHILE ENTERING MY DRIVEWAY, THE WIRE CABLE WHICH ATTACHES THE SPARE TIRE BROKE, CAUSING THE SPARE TIRE TO DROP TO THE GROUND. THIS 1/8 INCH WIRE CABLE IS THE ONLY THING HOLDING THE SPARE IN PLACE. WHEN IT BREAKS, THE WHEEL FALLS OUT ON TO THE ROAD. IT DID NOT CAUSE A PROBLEM, SINCE IT HAPPENED AT LOW SPEED, WHILE ENTERING MY DRIVEWAY. HOWEVER, I WOULD HATE TO BE FOLLOWING A VEHICLE, AT HIGHWAY SPEED, IF THE SAME THING SHOULD HAPPEN. *AK

THE FIRST PROBLEM I HAVE REPORTED IS THAT OF FAULTY DOOR LATCHES. WE HAVE HAD THE FRONT SEAT PASSENGER'S-SIDE DOOR LATCH FIXED THREE TIMES. IT DETACHES ON THE INSIDE OF THE DOOR, USUALLY WHEN THE POWER DOOR LOCK IS CLICKED AT THE SAME TIME AS SOMEONE IS PULLING ON THE DOOR LATCH TO GET IN OR OUT OF THE VEHICLE. ALSO, THE REAR HATCH DOOR LATCH BROKE AND WAS REPLACED. IT WAS CHEAPLY MADE. NOW THE SLIDING SIDE DOOR'S LATCH SEEMS TO HAVE BROKEN, AS WE CANNOT EXIT THE VAN USING THAT DOOR LATCH, BUT IT WILL WORK ON THE OUTSIDE. THE OTHER COMPLAINT I HAVE SUBMITTED IS THAT OF THE ENGINE'S "CHOKING OUT" OR A KIND OF "VAPOR LOCK" KIND OF PROBLEM. WHEN THE ENGINE GETS HOT, AND IT IS WARM OUTSIDE, I HAVE A VERY DIFFICULT TIME RESTARTING THE ENGINE AND KEEPING IT RUNNING. IT IS LIKE IT DOESN'T GET ENOUGH GAS OR SOMETHING. IF I REV IT UP A LOT, IT EVENTUALLY MAY FALL INTO A SUITABLE IDLE, AND WILL OPERATE. BUT DURING THE REVVING PROCESS, IT CHOKES OUT. I'VE HAD THIS PROBLEM FOR SEVERAL YEARS, BUT THIS SPRING I'VE NOTICED THAT IT IS MUCH WORSE. MECHANICS ARE BAFFLED. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP. *AK

CONSUME RCANNOT OPEN THE SLIDING DOOR FROM THE INSIDE OF VEHICLE. THE HANDLE HAS BEEN BROKEN FOR ALMOST TWO YEARS. THE VAN WAS PURCHAASED USED, AND THE PROBLEM WAS NOT REPORTED TO THE DEALER. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
