My car began shaking at low speeds when turning. Brought it to a mechanic to investigate and they performed a recommended manufacturer alteration on the car related to rear differential vent. That did not fix the issue and mechanic said a full rear differential replacement was required and it was a safety issue. If the rear differential failed while driving it could cause a serious accident. He su
... ggested that the manufacturer knew there was an issue because they had this upgrade in their service literature. My concern is that the manufacture knew of a potential safety defect and did not initiate a recall. The vehicle cannot be driven under its own power in this condition, often leaving it disabled in a traffic lane with other vehicles stuck behind and/or passing by at normal travel speeds. As such, it endangers both the occupants of my vehicle and the other vehicles in the vicinity. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. My local Honda dealership acknowledged the problem and completed a PGM-FI software update. However, this update did not correct the issue, and Honda refuses to take financial responsibility for the repairs necessary to correct the problem. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Yes. The following timeline details my interactions with my local Honda dealership regarding this issue: 4/13/23 - The dealership inspected the vehicle and claimed the Auto Start/Stop system was "operating as designed"; 9/6/24 - The dealership completed a PGM-FI update as directed by a Honda product update campaign; 2/12/26 - The dealership inspected the vehicle, suggested battery replacement (which tested good on 3/3/26), and if still not corrected, advised replacement of the starter at my expense. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? The problem has occurred without notice since purchase on 3/11/21.Read more

While operating a 2026 Tesla Model Y on Full Self-Driving (FSD) Supervised, the vehicle's vision-based lane-keeping system failed on an unmarked residential road. At approximately 26 MPH, the vehicle approached a blind crest of a hill. Due to the lack of painted center lines, the FSD software miscalculated the road geometry and drifted significantly into the center/oncoming lane exactly as it reac
... hed the top of the hill. This lane departure created an immediate, severe safety hazard, as it placed the vehicle directly in the path of potential oncoming traffic with zero forward visibility over the crest. Due to the critical lane positioning error, immediate driver intervention was required. The driver took manual control of the steering wheel to force the vehicle back into the correct lane, causing the FSD system to instantly disengage. Simultaneously, the driver applied manual braking to reduce speed drastically down to 10 MPH to safely clear a resident working on the right shoulder and stabilize the vehicle. Prior to the failure, there were no warning lamps, error messages, or symptoms indicating the system would fail to maintain proper lane positioning. The system appeared to be functioning normally up until the crest of the hill. The vehicle and its Autopilot/FSD components have not yet been inspected by Tesla, police, or an independent service center following this specific event. A 2021 Tesla Model Y experienced steering/suspension warnings followed shortly by a steering-assist reduction event. It states that “a wheel alignment check was completed,” but also states “No Labor Performed — Customer Did Not Authorize Repairs or Inspection,” with 0.00 labor hours and no charge. A documented steering/suspension diagnostic inspection, alignment report, alert-log review, or safety assessment was not performed by Tesla or inspected. The owner was advised to replace tires and return later. Approximately 90 miles later, during a low-speed three-point turn, the vehicle made a loud pop/clunk from the front area and displayed: “Steering assist reduced — Steering may require increased effort.” A related alert also stated Lane Departure Avoidance features were unavailable. This created a safety concern because steering effort may unexpectedly increase during low-speed turns or parking maneuvers. Tesla later inspected the vehicle and documented torn front lower lateral/compliance link bushings and vehicle log data showing steering gear alerts. Tesla replaced the front lower lateral links and front lower compliance links and performed alignment work. After those repairs, Tesla stated a steering gear alert was still present and recommended steering gear/steering rack replacement with additional alignment work. The concern is that a steering/alignment warning occurred shortly before the physical front-end failure and reduced steering-assist event, but the earlier Tesla visit does not clearly document that the warning was meaningfully inspected or safety-assessed. Vehicle is currently unsafe to drive and is in Teslas possessionRead more

My 2019 Jeep Cherokee Limited has a diagnosed failure of the two speed Power Transfer Unit (PTU), which is the exact subject of active NHTSA Campaign 26V290000/Jeep Recall 40D. Ed Martin Jeep in Anderson, Indiana provided me with written diagnostics confirming the failure. However, they stated “the part is on back order for 4-6 months” and even explicitly told me “the Jeep is fine to drive,
... nothing should happen to it”. The official NHTSA Safety reports warns this failure causes an unrecoverable loss of motive power at any speed and severe park rollaway risks. Driving this vehicle for half a year presents an extreme, life threatening safety hazard, and the manufacturer/dealer is failing to provide me with alternate safe transportation while the part is on backorder.Read more

I filed a complaint when the first engine seized. It's a miracle we got off the road safely that day. While it was at the dealership, the engine was replaced with a used engine and covered by my extended warranty from Vroom. I believe the cost was approximately $14,000. I was told the engine had around 30,000 miles on it. I've put around 20,000 miles on this engine and the same thing happened agai
... n. This time, the engine had been knocking for a few months. When it started knocking, I took it to the dealership because the new extended warranty by Hyundai was in effect and I assumed it would be covered. Immediately, Autonation Hyundai in Savannah, GA said it would not be covered because it was a used engine. I don't understand why when the engine can be traced and the mileage known by the number on the engine. On XXX, my [XXX] granddaughter took her driving test in the vehicle. About 2 hours later, the engine seized with her driving. We were on the same road and it was about the same time of day. Once again, it was a miracle we got off the road safely. I just talked to Hyundai and we'll see what they say. From the stories I've seen, they'll do anything they can to avoid covering these engines and they get away with it. The people who get hurt the most from this are the ones who can least afford it. I'm a [XXX] widow raising my 5 grandchildren by myself and believed I was getting a good vehicle, mainly due to the report by Consumer Reports magazine. Even after the first engine failed and was replaced, I still wasn't in a financial position to get another vehicle and assumed if something happened again, it would be covered under the extended warranty Hyundai was made to provide. Obviously, that means nothing. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)Read more

While driving at highway speed, I experienced a sudden loss of engine power with no warning. This created an immediate safety hazard for myself and other drivers. The vehicle was diagnosed by Mercedes-Benz of Georgetown as requiring a full engine replacement (~$19,000). This failure is consistent with a known defect in the 2.0L M260 engine used in the 2020 A220, involving premature wear of exhaus
... t valve seat rings and valve guides, causing leaking valves, loss of compression, and catastrophic engine failure. Mercedes-Benz of Georgetown performed a warranty cylinder head replacement on this same engine just five months prior (12/09/2025). The vehicle has been serviced primarily at the authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer, driven under 10,000 miles/year, and purchased new in January 2020. Mercedes-Benz USA has acknowledged the defect by covering engine parts but is refusing to cover $6,733.38 in labor costs, leaving me with a $5,000 out-of-pocket expense for their manufacturing defect. I am reporting a severe structural defect in the 2022 Model 3 front suspension and wheel hub assembly that poses an imminent threat of catastrophic failure. My vehicle is nearly new, with less than 30k miles. As the original, single owner who maintains this car, a critical failure of this nature is highly premature and indicative of a manufacturing defect rather than normal wear-and-tear. The iss
... ue manifests as a progressive clicking and popping noise from the front wheel area during operation. After noticing this sound, I took my vehicle to the dealership. The technician's inspection revealed that critical structural components were loose and failing. The technician explicitly warned me that this specific failure carries a direct risk of sudden wheel separation while the vehicle is in motion. This forced me to take immediate, emergency action right there at the dealership; leaving the shop without fixing it was simply not an option, as driving my car in that condition would have caused immediate and dangerous consequences on the road. A wheel separating or a suspension collapsing at highway speeds is an inherently fatal scenario that endangers my life, my passengers, and the public. This mechanical failure is highly similar to the defect described in NHTSA Number: 21V835000, which covered front suspension lateral links separating from the subframe and carries the same dangerous consequences. However, because my vehicle is a '22 model, Tesla refused to acknowledge the connection to that safety campaign and denied coverage under the drivetrain warranty. I was forced to pay over 800 out of pocket to resolve this hazard. While I could afford this, many drivers cannot. Tesla’s failure to expand their recall to the '22 model year means thousands of drivers are unwittingly operating a ticking time bomb. NHTSA must investigate this issue and force Tesla to expand the recall to include '22 vehicles before this known, fatal defect causes an an entirely preventable tragedy.Read more

My 2024 Chevy Malibu has lost power and is not shifting properly yet it’s not displaying any codes. It shifts and jerks very hard when on a cold start but also will not get up and go when I pull into traffic. This has caused me to almost get hit numerous times. It’s like it freezes and won’t go! The dealership could not recreate the problem (shocker), and since no codes they sent me away. Sa
... id last time it was due to the battery so I paid to replace that yet that did nothing to the engine/transmission problem. In addition to this issue, I think there’s an electrical issue. My rear view camera will often be distorted like I’m looking through a fish bowl and it has also come on while I’m driving on the freeway. I often lose my infotainment system too. It loses connection all the time and the screen goes black and disconnects from CarPlay. My onstar button will sometimes go red when this occurs but not all the time. Even when I lose the CarPlay, I can’t even get the Bluetooth to work. I purchased this vehicle used at 40k miles and my power train warranty will expire in less than 5k miles yet I can’t get any help with making it safe.Read more
