Incident Narrative
ON DECEMBER 23, DURING A HEAVY THUNDERSTORM LIGHTNING STRUCK TANK 506 AT CAPLINE ST. JAMES STATION, IGNITING VAPORS AT A FLOATING ROOF VACUUM BREAKER. MARATHON'S GARYVILLE REFINERY FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED TO THE INCIDENT AND SUCCESSFULLY EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE LEAK WAS INITIALLY IDENTIFIED BY SCADA AND WAS CONFIRMED BY LOCAL PERSONNEL. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AS A RESULT OF THE INCIDENT NOR WAS THERE ANY CRUDE OIL RELEASED TO THE ENVIRONMENT.
