VISIBILITY:POWER WINDOW DEVICES AND CONTROLS
Toyota Motor Company (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2009-2011 Tundra, Sequoia, Corolla, Corolla Matrix and Scion xB, 2008-2011 Highlander and Highlander Hybrid, 2007 Camry and Camry Hybrid, 2009 Camry and Camry Hybrid, 2006-2011 RAV4, 2006-2010 Yaris, and 2009-2010 Scion xD and Pontiac Vibe vehicles. During the manufacturing of the Power Window Master Switch (PWMS), grease lubricant may have been inconsistently applied to the sliding electrical contacts.
Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the switch, applying a lubricant if no abnormality is found. If abnormality is found, the PWMS circuit board will be replaced, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin December 20, 2015. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's number for this recall is C0M.

Toyota is recalling certain model year 2007-2009 Camry, Camry Hybrid, RAV4, Corolla, Corolla Matrix, Tundra, Sequoia, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, Yaris, Scion xB, Scion xD and Pontiac Vibe vehicles. The power window master switch assemblies in some of these vehicles were built using a less precise process for lubricating the internal components of the switch assemblies. Irregularities in this lubrication process may cause the power window master switch assemblies to malfunction and overheat.
Remedy: Toyota will notify its owners, and dealers will inspect the switch and apply a special grease that inhibits heat build up or replace any switch damaged by the defect, free of charge. Toyota owners that experience a problem with a switch should not attempt to make repairs, but should contact their Toyota dealer or the Toyota Customer Experience Center at 1-800-331-4331. General Motors will contact the Pontiac Vibe owners affected by this recall and GM dealers will inspect and repair switches as necessary. Those owners may contact Pontiac Customer Care at 1-800-762-2737.

TOYOTA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2004-2010 PASSENGER VEHICLES. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL CAN GET STUCK IN THE WIDE OPEN POSITION DUE TO ITS BEING TRAPPED BY AN UNSECURED OR INCOMPATIBLE DRIVER'S FLOOR MAT.
Remedy: TOYOTA FILED AN AMENDED DEFECT REPORT ON NOVEMBER 25, 2009, STATING THAT DEALERS WILL MODIFY THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND, ON CERTAIN VEHICLES, ALTER THE SHAPE OF THE FLOOR SURFACE UNDER THE PEDAL. THESE CHANGES ADDRESS THE RISK OF PEDAL ENTRAPMENT DUE TO INTERFERENCE WITH THE FLOOR MAT. REDESIGNED ACCELERATOR PEDALS WILL BECOME AVAILABLE BEGINNING IN APRIL 2010 AND DEALERS WILL REPLACE ANY MODIFIED PEDAL WITH THE NEW PEDAL IF DESIRED. ALSO, DEALERS WILL REPLACE ANY GENUINE TOYOTA OR LEXUS ALL-WEATHER FLOOR MATS WITH REDESIGNED ALL-WEATHER MATS, OR REPURCHASE THE PREVIOUS MATS FROM OWNERS WHO DO NOT WANT THE NEW ONES. ADDITIONALLY, SOFTWARE MODIFICATIONS WILL BE INSTALLED ON CAMRY, AVALON AND LEXUS ES 350, IS 350 AND IS 250 MODELS THAT WILL ENSURE THAT THE BRAKE OVERRIDES THE ACCELERATOR IN THE EVENT BOTH BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR PEDALS ARE APPLIED. ON MY 2009 CAMRY HYBRID, AS I WAS GOING TO WORK, WHEN I TRIED TO SLOW DOWN THE CAR THE BRAKES WENT HARD AND CAN'T STOP THE CAR TOTALLY I SAW THE BRAKE LIGHT, TRACTION CONTROL, AND ABS LIGHTS TURNED ON, AND CHECK VSC SYSTEM DISPLAYED. I IMMEDIATELY SLOW DOWN THE CAR TOOK THE EXIT AND STOP THE CAR. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND START THE CAR AGAIN WHICH FIXED ALL THE ABOVE ISSUES. IT HAPPENED APPROX TWO WEEKS AGO AND TOOK THE CAR TO TOYOTA OF GRAPEVINE TX 76051 AND THEY DID NOT FIND ANY ISSUE RELATED TO BRAKE OR ANY CODE. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE THE CAR AND TAKING THE CAR TO THE SAME DEALER TO CHECK AGAIN.

I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC THINKING IT WAS SOMETHING MINOR, PADS ETC. AND IT WAS NOT THAT. ON 11/28/18 I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG. NOT SURE WHAT ELSE CAN BE DONE. THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS. BECAUSE THIS PROBLEM CAN HAPPEN AT ANY TIME WITH NO WARNING, IT HAS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING AND ALSO STARTING THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 106,571.
WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT AT ABOUT 40 MPH (IN A 50 MPH ZONE ON A BACK ROAD) I STEPPED ON THE BRAKES WHEN APPROACHING A STOP SIGN. THE BRAKES FAILED TO ENGAGE. THE CHECK VBS SYSTEM WARNING CAME ON AS WELL AS ALL OF THE DASH BOARD WARNING LIGHTS. THE CAR WAS CHECKED AND THE BRAKE PADS WERE FINE, THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WAS NORMAL, AND NO COMPUTER CODES CAME UP WHEN THAT WAS CHECKED. THE BRAKE LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON AND OFF AND THE BRAKES WORK MOST OF THE TIME, BUT OUT OF NO WHERE THEY WON'T ENGAGE. IT WAS VERY SCARY, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE MY KIDS WERE IN THE CAR. THANK GOODNESS I WASN'T GOING FASTER THAN I WAS BECAUSE I DON'T THINK WE WOULD HAVE STOPPED IN TIME.

WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 65 MPH ON A FOUR LANE DIVIDED HIGHWAY, THE DRIVER'S VISOR SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY ROTATED COMPLETELY DOWN, BLOCKING MY VIEW OUT OF THE WINDSHIELD SO THAT I COULD NOT SEE AHEAD. IT WAS A DANGEROUS AND FRIGHTENING SITUATION! I HAD TO KEEP CONTROL OF THE CAR WHILE HOLDING THE VISOR UP SO THAT I COULD GET HOME SAFELY AND THEN GET THE CAR TO THE REPAIR FACILITY. TOYOTA KNEW THAT THIS SAFETY HAZARD EXISTED AND WAS SERIOUS BECAUSE IT DID A "WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT NOTICE" FOR 2007 TO 2011 CAMRY HYBRID SUN VISOR BRACKETS, BUT THIS EXPIRED FOR MY CAR IN MAY OF 2016.

I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH ALL TOYOTA VISORS AND IS DUE TO BAD DESIGN AND POOR MATERIALS. TOYOTA DOES NOT STAND BEHIND IT AND THE REPLACEMENT VISORS ARE THE SAME JUNK AS ORIGINAL.

WENT TO GET AN OIL CHANGE FROM TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS - THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST WERE RUN AND IT DETECTED NORMAL (TESTED TWICE BECAUSE INCONCLUSIVE). THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON WHEN TRAVELING OUT OF STATE, THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF LOSE OF ENGINE OIL AND THEN CAR MADE A STRANGE SOUND. VEHICLE STOPPED ON THE BRIDGE, IT SOUNDED LIKE SOMETHING WAS BRAGGING WITH THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING AND PRESENTED NOT SIGNS OF PROBLEMS WHEN THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED, THE VEHICLE WAS NORMALLY SERVICED AT DEALERSHIPS AND HAVE ALWAYS RESPONDED TO UPDATES. THE MOTOR DID NOT SHOW SIGNS OF WEAR OR TEAR, WAS TAKEN INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE AND DID NOT KNOW OF THE EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. THE VEHICLE IS NOW LOCATED IN VIRGINIA BEACH, THE MILEAGE IS OVER 260,000 AND TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED BACK TO MY RESIDENCE WOULD BE TOO COSTLY. THE VEHICLE REPAIRS HAVE BEEN ESTIMATED TO COST $3000 TO REPAIR THE MOTOR AND MORE TO REPLACE THE MOTOR.

I HAVE BEEN NOTICING THAT MY CAR HAS BEEN BURNING EXCESSIVE OIL FOR OVER A YEAR. WHEN I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR IN FOR THE REGULARLY SCHEDULED OIL CHANGES THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT (NOT TOYOTA) HAS NOT FOUND A PROBLEM. RECENTLY A FRIEND FOUND OUT ON LINE THAT THERE IS A TOYOTA WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT FOR THIS ISSUE GOOD FOR 10 YEARS/150,000 MILES. I CALLED A LOCAL TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT BUT I AM OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT BECAUSE I AM OVER THE 150,000 MILES BUT I AM WITHIN THE YEARS. MY CAR IS 8 YEARS OLD WITH 154,000 MILES. I TOLD THEM THAT I HAVE BEEN HAVING THIS ISSUE FOR A YEAR AND MY CAR HAD ABOUT 137,000 MILES AT THE TIME I NOTICED IT WAS AN ISSUE. THE SUGGESTED I CALLED THE TOYOTA MOTOR COMPANY, I CALLED THEM ON 6/15/2017 BUT I DID NOT GET ANY SATISFACTION. THEY WILL NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT SINCE I AM OVER THE MILES. I TOLD THEM TODAY 7/12/2017 THAT I HAVE TAKEN IT TO TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT NUMEROUS TIMES BUT I WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE EXCESSIVE OIL BURNING ISSUE. SHE SAID THAT I WOULD NEED TO TELL THEM I WAS HAVING A PROBLEM FIRST. SHE ALLEGED THAT I WAS SENT A LETTER BUT I NEVER RECEIVED A LETTER. I SHOULD HAVE ASKED HER WHY I WAS SENT A LETTER BUT WHEN I HAVE ASKED TOYOTA IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS THEY DID NOT TELL ME ABOUT THE EXCESSIVE OIL BURNING ISSUE. I AM PUTTING A QUART OF OIL IN MY CAR PER WEEK (500 MILES). THIS IS VERY EXPENSIVE. I AM WAITING TO HERE BACK FROM A SUPERVISOR. THERE IS A PROBLEM BUT TOYOTA IS BEING SNEAKING AND DISHONEST ABOUT THE ISSUE.

I WAS TRAVELING EASTBOUND ON A CITY STREET TURNING INTO A SHOPPING PLAZA AND APPLIED THE BRAKES TO LET OPPOSITE WESTBOARD TRAFFIC TO CLEAR. THE CAR DID NOT RESPOND TO THE BRAKES AND I HIT THE CENTER CONCRETE MEDIAN THAT DIVIDES EAST AND WESTBOUND TRAFFIC.

UNKNOWN MY VEHICLE WAS MOBILE, AT THE NORMAL SPEED LIMIT OF 35MPH ON A CITY STREET, AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THERE WAS A BURNING SMELL. BY THE TIME I FOUND A SAFE PLACE TO STOP MY ALL THE LIGHTS ON MY DASH WENT ON, WITH A WHIZZING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE.
THE WATER PUMP IS MAKING A TERRIBLE NOISE, AND WILL FAIL SOON. TOYOTA RECALLED 2.7 MILLION VEHICLES FOR WATER PUMP PROBLEMS BUT THEY SAY MINE IS NOT RECALLED. I THINK IT SHOULD BE. IT IS MAKING A TERRIBLE NOISE.

DRIVING AT ABOUT 30 MPH ON A STRAIGHT ROAD 6AM APPROX. 1 MILE FROM MY HOUSE. I APPLIED BRAKES INTENDING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN THEN VSC WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND BRAKES DID NOT WORK PROPERLY. NO CARS IN FRONT OF ME, HAD TO PUSH HARD ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SLOW THE CAR. I MISSED MY INTERSECTION TO TURN. IT IS AS IF THE POWER SYSTEM TO THE BRAKES STOPPED WORKING. I SLOWED ENOUGH TO TURN THE CAR ONTO A SIDED STREET AND PUMPED THE BRAKES HARD, IT IS STILL DIFFICULT TO BRAKE, BUT AT LEAST I KNOW I HAVE TO APPLY HEAVY FOOT PRESSURE TO BRAKE. TURNED CAR OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN AND VSC LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN, THEN TURNED OFF AFTER 1 MINUTE AND POWER BRAKING RETURNED TO NORMAL.
EXCESS OIL CONSUMPTION (3+ QUARTS AT 2000 MILES USE). ONGOING ISSUE...AUTO TECHNICIAN INDICATED IT WAS DUE TO TOYOTA RECOMMENDED OIL VISCOSITY TOO THIN ALLOWING RINGS ON PISTONS TO SEIZE; THEREBY ALLOWING EXCESS OIL TO BYPASS AND BURN OFF.
