My 2021 Subaru Forester has a recurring, worsening defect in the Idle Stop/Start (ISS) system that creates a stalling hazard. When ISS shuts the engine off at a stop, the engine intermittently fails to restart when I try to move again. It cranks progressively slower, warning lights illuminate, a con
... tinuous alert sounds, and the vehicle cannot proceed until I shift to Park and restart manually. This has left me immobile in live traffic at lights, stop signs, and mid-turn. The system also attempts to shut down in unfavorable moments, such as mid-turn, or as I am already releasing the brake (meaning it was depressed only lightly or briefly); it then tries to restart while still mid-shutdown, producing a pronounced shake. This is not a battery-charge problem. It has occurred even when the battery tested above its rated cold-cranking amps, and after each failure the engine restarts smoothly by manual start, indicating the starter, engine, and fuel systems function normally. I raised this before 2024, but it was not recorded until May 2024. At that visit the dealer performed the TCM reprogramming in Service Bulletin 16-147-24 (Forester, auto start/stop engine speed drop on restart) plus an ECM update. A later visit added another ECM update. A dealer has now identified yet another TCM reprogramming, quoted for a fee. The failure has persisted across all of these updates. Dealer staff acknowledge repeated customer complaints with these exact symptoms and say there is no known effective fix. Because ISS cannot be permanently disabled through any factory control, I must remember to disable it manually every drive to avoid a restart failure in traffic. The vehicle is available for inspection. This is an ongoing, unresolved safety defect that repeated manufacturer software remedies have failed to correct, and it can leave the vehicle disabled in live traffic.Read more

Persistent Battery Drain on a 2021 Subaru Forester Limited. Problems began in year 4 of ownership (~17,000 mileage), after Subaru Starlink Subscription services expired. Red (Error) Starlink SOS indicator light was evident, where a normal light would show green. Battery would fully drain after about
... 3-4 days of inactivity while parked in a commercial garage. After repeated dead batteries, a jump-starter battery pack was used regularly, as well as a wall-outlet battery charger. The problem has not resolved with a new and appropriately specified AGM battery, replaced in December 2025. The only solution is to pull the engine-bay fuse #5, which disables the Data Communication Module (DCM), as well as other features (hands-free microphones and audio system). By pulling the fuse #5 consistently, the problem has ceased, even after a two-week period of no use. This provides irrefutable evidence that the DCM powered by fuse #5 is the source of the battery drain. The only resolution Subaru would offer was to insist on a dedicated diagnostic visit to a dealership, with the associated costs of hundreds of dollars to be borne by me, the customer, without a clear understanding of the costs or remedies to resolve this problem. I feel unsafe driving my vehicle for more than short trips given the risk of stranding or further electrical malfunctions that would impact critical vehicle functions or safety systems.Read more

I currently own and am driving a 2014 Lincoln MKS, my fourth such vehicle over the past several years. Lincolns have been one of my favorite vehicles however, I am writing to bring to your attention a recurring issue with the climate control system that may warrant further review as a potential saf
... ety-related defect. Many owners, including myself, have experienced a situation where the vehicle's heating system automatically increases to full heat without any driver input. In my case, both sides of the dual-zone system simultaneously rise to maximum temperature, regardless of the settings selected. This behavior appears to be linked to a failure of the main blend door actuator. While this may seem like a comfort issue at first glance, it can quickly become a safety concern. Sudden, uncontrolled heat output can fog windows, distract the driver, and create uncomfortable cabin conditions that may impair focus. Given the number of similar reports from other owners, I believe this issue may merit further investigation. I respectfully request that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (and Ford) review this matter to determine whether a recall or service campaign may be appropriate. Thank you for your time and attention. I appreciate your commitment to safety and customer satisfaction.Read more

My Subaru Forester has a significant safety defect. If my web searches are representative this software problem affects multiple models and years of Subaru. I have addressed this problem with the local dealer, Subaru America, and Subaru Japan and have been told "that is the way it was designed and
... it is supposed to do that." As you may imagine that is not a satisfactory answer to a significant safety issue; I can only imagine Ford saying the Pinto was designed with a gas tank that explodes in a collision or a more recent Takata claiming that their seatbelts were designed that way. So here is the problem in a nutshell (and I have a host of Emails from various levels of Subaru if you want the details of how I have attempted to get them to address the issue.) There is a sensor on the gas cap that detects if it is not fully closed since that is a pollution control issue. (More on that later) When that sensor is activated, it disables the Subaru Eyesight system and when the Eyesight system is disabled it disables every safety feature except the seatbelt and it lights up the dash with a dozen alarms none of which have anything to do with the gas cap. That takes down collision avoidance, lane changing, and autodim headlights among others. It also wants you to check the engine and consult the users manual. None of that has anything to do with the actual situation. Now I have taken the car to the dealer who assures me it is operating as designed and there is no fault in the sensor. When you close the gas cap there are audible clicks and as a 190 pound man I can assure you that the cap is fully closed when I close it. But on a random basis the dashboard lights up despite the fact that the gas cap is fully engaged and the safety systems become disabled. Usually it stays lit up until I refill the tank, but its behavior is not predictable - occasionally it just resets as I drive. Besides the obvious hazard of having safety systems which do not work, haviRead more

Driving using cruise control on interstate. Car in front of me exited. My car began to slow even though there was nothing in front of me but a slight incline. I was completely stopped on an interstate with construction barriers on each side of the lanes, so there was no shoulder to pull off on. I was fearful of getting in an accident or causing one. I was very scared for my safety. There were no warning lamps or messages to assist in the moment. I took my car into the dealership and explained what happened. Dealership checked the cruise control and said "test drove vehicle and cruise control operation is normal." They reset cruise control follow distance from closest to farthest and could not duplicate the concern. I am no longer using the cruise control because I feel it is a safety issue that was not addressed.Read more

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Power steering / steering wheel responsiveness steering wheel "stuck" in position. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? On curved roads or roads at highway speeds, small steering
... corrections are not always possible. Excessive force must be used to "snap" the steering wheel out of being stuck, which can cause the vehicle to swerve slightly. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No, they do not spend enough time with the vehicle or do the proper preparation to recreate the issue. Or they charge high fees just to try to determine the issue. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No, not to my knowledge. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No, none. Other notes: This has happened since the vehicle was under warranty, circa 2018/2019. It happens most often on very hot days, or when the car has been driven for a while, and mostly happens at speeds around 70 mph, though can happen as low as 40 mph. *When researching it does appear that the 2016 Honda Civic EX 2.0L sedan shares a part number with other Honda vehicles that were part of a recall regarding steering issues.*Read more

This bulging can compromise airbag deployment and is caused by adhesive failure, often requiring a full dashboard replacement. I contacted my local Ram service center. They advised my to contact Ram corporate regarding this Safety Issue. Key Details Regarding the Issue: •Cause: The glue holding the leather/vinyl to the dash substrate fails, leading to bubbling and peeling, which can create a ridge over the passenger airbag deployment zone. •Safety Risk: A warped or bulging dashboard can interfere with the proper deployment of the passenger-side airbag.Read more

Vehicle has widespread software/electronic failures affecting driving and safety systems. Failures cause erratic, loss of information while driving, unintended systems activation, and loss of emergency services. While operating the vehicle during routine driving, multiple safety-related electronic
... systems malfunction. The instrument panel and center display intermittently go completely blank while driving, removing speed and warning information. The vehicle has shifted into Park on its own while stopped at traffic lights (with the driver seated and seat belt fastened). Cruise control activates without driver input. Voice control activates repeatedly without pressing the steering-wheel button. Intermittent, but significant loss of propulsion power has occurred while driving. The backup camera intermittently remains on while driving forward and backup sensors intermittently fail. GPS location is severely inaccurate, the dynamic road sign display does not function, and the Emergency Call (SOS) system does not function. Car will not connect to the app, leaving many functions unavailable, including the ability to condition the battery before driving in cold conditions. Many of these issues have occurred multiple times over the course of the vehicle's history, but Volkswagen was able to fix many of these issues for a time. The date I have input below represents the approximate time the issues started to reoccur. I have made multiple attempts to resolve these issues with both the dealership and directly with Volkswagen.Read more

The car has a strange thump when driving around 70-75. This is always and the dealer says it’s normal, which is not true! This weird thump is now happening at lower speeds and also a weird shuddering at speeds around 25-40. Shudders are more random Also starting at about 8-10,000 miles randomly wh
... ile driving highway speeds 70-75 the vehicle shudders /vibrates for about 20 seconds and then stops. I do not use lane assist so it’s not that. It feels like when you run over the rumble sticks on the highway but amplified x20. Also since almost purchase I have had several alignments because the car continuously pulls to the left. In Florida the roads crown to the right for rain water run off. If anything the car should pull to the right but it pulls to the left consistently even right after an alignment. Other complaints I’ve made are how unstable and wobbly it drives and this has gotten significantly worse to the point that the ability to maintain control of it on the highway is not pleasant and feels very unsafe Any cat that randomly shudders at highway speeds is not safe And needs to be fixed. However,14 service trips and several manufacturer complaints and still nothing… they promise things and give it a car wash instead. They are not saying much about their own product to tell me it’s running as designed. I’m tired of hearing I can’t duplicate it. Absurd excuse. At this point it’s been very scary at times… so I’m selective with where I use my vehicle. So I’ve been renting when I need to go on the highway. Monday, November 3rd, 2025 In electric mode - I drove the vehicle forward out of a parking spot. The vehicle made three very large lurches over a 200 foot length of parking lot, enough to bang drivers and passengers heads hard against the head rests each with a loud clunk. Within seconds after the
... third lurch, the car went into gas/oil refresh mode (which transitions the vehicle from electric mode to gas mode). At that point the accelerator became unresponsive with RPMs hovering just over 1000. After multiple successive press, hold and releases of the accelerator, I took my foot off thinking I had lost all power and was preparing to shut the vehicle off. Before I could, the car began accelerating quickly forward without my foot on the accelerator. This lasted for 1 - 2 seconds before the car stopped accelerating and I was able to use the brakes to stop it. Had this not been late evening (9:45p EST) - the parking lot would have been full of pedestrians and other vehicles which would have caused a collision with other vehicles, or worse caused me to strike a pedestrian. I had no control over the vehicle. I put the vehicle in park and shut it down. After a minute, I restarted the vehicle and brought it home. The check engine light has been lit since. At this time (Monday, November 10th), the vehicle is still at the dealership (brought in Wednesday, November 5th) being investigated for this as well as the transmission (?) issue that was causing the lurching described.Read more

Absolutely terrified me, my father in law came and switched me vehicles and took mine to the dealership where it stayed for 3 days and they diagnosed it saying it needed a new transmission, quoting us at $11,000. Obviously we can’t afford that. We had all the filters and lines of the transmission cleaned. And now it’s just gotten worse and worse. That was the first time it happened. Now it’ll shudder like that any time it’s switching gears at any speed. Another time since then, it got stuck in the same situation after pulling out of my kids school driveway, it got stuck and wouldn’t click, when it finally did it started shaking uncontrollably in the street and thankfully I live two streets over and made it to my street before it just shut off on its own. I coasted it right into the front of our house and then it would not come back on, at this time we searched the internet over and over to find try to find an easy fix. We let it sit before it came back on. This is our family vehicle. I’ve seen that many many people have this exact issue with this exact same year and model. Its not coincidental and It’s extremely unsafe. Especially with kids in these vehicles. I’m terrified one day when it gets stuck or shuts off we will get hit.Read more

On August 3rd, while driving on the freeway at 55mph, my vehicle's brakes became extremely stiff, and I could not press them down to engage the braking system. I was about to collide with the vehicle in front of me, so I quickly veered right without looking because I had no time. After moving to the
... right, the brakes finally slowed the vehicle to around 40mph. Luckily, the traffic light turned green, allowing me to continue moving with the remaining momentum. As I attempted to take a turn on a bridge above the freeway, the steering wheel became stiff. At this point, I was unsure whether I could turn the car at that speed with the steering not responding. I need General Motors and Chevrolet to take action on the severity of the situation and make the necessary and appropriate restitution to me for the traumatic and physical injuries sustained during the incident. For the amount of time I've been without a vehicle, I am now running high risk of loosing my job. $3,700. is what they are charging me, which is conveniently not under warranty. When consistently stating that no one really sure what's covered and what's not covered.Read more

In April of 2025 I got my normal oil change and I mentioned to the technician that the car seems to be jerking more than usual when I start trying to accelerate. They mentioned that the car needed the coolant flushed out and that could be contributing to the issue. I had it done in June. It was not
... causing the issue but the jerking got worse. So this month, August 2025, I took the care to Aamco Transmissions and Total Car Care. They did a full systems and diagnostic courtesy check and determined that I need my transmission replaced or rebuilt which is at least $7k. This is a 2021 Ford Edge. I am the only owner. I have 71k miles on the car and never thought that I would have to fully replace a transmission in 4 years.Read more
