NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 1996-2004 PATHFINDER AND MODEL YEAR 1997-2003 INFINITI QX4 VEHICLES ORIGINALLY SOLD, OR CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN, CONNECTICUT, DELAWARE, IOWA, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, MASSACHUSETTS, MAINE, MARYLAND, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, MISSOURI, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW JERSEY, NEW YORK, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA, RHODE ISLAND, VERMONT, WASHINGTON D.C., WEST VIRGINIA AND WISCONSIN. IN AREAS OF THE COUNTRY IN WHICH HEAVY CONCENTRATIONS OF ROAD SALT ARE USED, A MIXTURE OF SNOW/WATER AND SALT MAY ENTER AN ASSEMBLY LOCATION HOLE IN THE UPPER STRUT HOUSING, CAUSING WATER TO COLLECT AT THE MATING SURFACE OF THE STRUT HOUSING PANEL AND THE INNER HOOD LEDGE ASSEMBLY. OVER TIME, THIS SNOW/WATER AND SALT INTRUSION MAY RESULT IN CORROSION OF THE STRUT TOWER HOUSING IN SOME SUBJECT VEHICLES.
Remedy: NISSAN WILL INSPECT THE STRUT HOUSING AND REPAIR THE VEHICLES AS NECESSARY, FREE OF CHARGE. AN INTERIM NOTIFICATION LETTER WAS SENT OUT IN MAY 2011. THE SECOND NOTICE WAS MAILED ON JULY 25, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.

REDUCING YOUR SPEED DOES HELP. IT APPEARS TO BEGIN BECAUSE OF A SMALL, UNEVEN PLACE IN THE HIGHWAY ROAD, BUT THEN DOESN'T STOP SHAKING BACK AND FORTH, SIDE TO SIDE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 1998 NISSAN PATHFINDER. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE HYDROPLANED DURING A RAINSTORM, FLIPPED OVER, AND CRASHED INTO A MEDIAN ON THE HIGHWAY. UPON IMPACT, THE CONTACT AND HER DAUGHTER STRUCK THE WINDSHIELD AND GLASS WAS INSERTED INTO THE PASSENGER'S HEAD. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED PARTIALLY, IN A BALLOON-LIKE FASHION, AND THE POWDER FROM THE AIR BAG ENTERED THE VEHICLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT WAS TEMPORARILY BLINDED AND SUFFERED NECK PAIN FROM THE IMPACT OF THE WINDSHIELD. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS REQUIRED FOR BOTH OCCUPANTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN UNKNOWN LOCATION IN ALTADENA, CALIFORNIA. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED ABOUT THE CRASH. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. HE VEHICLE WAS ABOUT 1/4 FULL OF FUEL MY RECORDS INDICATE THAT THE FILLER TUBE HAD BEEN REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE MILEAGE IS 153K.

WE WERE TOLD THAT IT COULD BE THE CLUTCH PACK THAT NEEDS REPLACED BUT THEN AFTER TALKING TO THE MECHANIC THAT INSPECTED IT FOR US HE SAID THAT HE THOUGHT WE MIGHT BE LOOKING AT A NEW TRANSMISSION. THE STRUT HOUSING ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE RUSTED COMPLETELY AND BROKE . IT CAUSED THE INNER FENDER TO TOUCH THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER. I HAD TO PAY TO HAVE THIS REPAIRED OUT OF POCKET, AND THEN RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE SEVERAL MONTHS LATER. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT THE NEXT STEP IS FOR REIMBURSEMENT. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 NISSAN PATHFINDER. THE CONTACT STATED THE MANUFACTURER RECENTLY ISSUED A VOLUNTARY RECALL REGARDING STRUT CORROSION (REFERENCE NUMBER: R1108). THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE SAME DEFECT TWO YEARS AGO. THE CONTACT STATED THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE STRUT WAS DEFECTIVE DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED THE REPAIR SHOULD HAD BEEN INCLUDED IN THE VOLUNTARY RECALL REMEDY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 NISSAN PATHFINDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS SEVERE RUSTING ON THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE STRUT HOUSING AND FRAME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THEY WOULD SPRAY A SUBSTANCE ON THE PORTION OF THE FRAME THAT WAS RUSTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 90,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN ON MAY 2ND, 2011 TO BERGSTROM/NISSAN IN OSHKOSH. THEY CHECKED OUT MY VEHICLE AND SAID THAT MY VEHICLE HAS THE PROBLEMS REGARDING BOTH RECALLS. IT IS SEPTEMBER 8TH, 2011 AND THEY STILL HAVE MY VEHICLE. THEY CALLED ME THIS MORNING AND TOLD ME THAT THEY BRACED UP THE FRONT. THINGS SHOULD BE GOOD BUT THAT THEY TOOK IT FOR A DRIVE AND IT IS STILL ALL OVER THE ROAD. THEY ALSO SAID THAT THE PART FOR THE GAS NECK RECALL IS ON BACK ORDER. THEY TOLD ME TO COME AND PICK UP THE VEHICLE. LOAD SENSING VALVE ---BRACKET WELDED TO DIFFERENTIAL HAS RUSTED OFF. SPRING APPLYING TENSION TO LOAD SENSING VALVE IS NO LONGER CONNECTED TO THE BRACKET THUS MAKING THE VALVE INOPERABLE. REAR BRAKE PRESSURE NO LONGER CONTROLLED BY THE VALVE DEPENDING ON LOAD. INCREASED CHANCE OF REAR WHEEL LOCK UP AND LOSS OF CONTROL. *TT
