Total loss of power steering. Was able to avoid crash but extremely dangerous. Has to get it towed to dealer $6,800 fix for total rack replacement due to bolts sheering off from EPS. Research shows this is a known issue due to faulty aluminum bolts in areas that salt roads.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM Mar 3, 2026
BLOWER MOTOR stopped working. Due to the lack of forced air in the cabin, the windows and windshield fog up and it is impossible to see safely. Blower motor or blower motor resistor has failed providing no heat, no air conditioning, no air at all. Land Rover Service repair shop confirmed this is a $6,000+ repair due to needing to remove the dash completely (10 hours of labor). During rainy season, condensation builds in vehicle causing mold.

SEAT BELTS Oct 30, 2025
The seat belt buckle was damaged and would not latch or secure properly. It was not broken by use — it was already defective when the vehicle was delivered. I discovered the problem the day after purchase when attempting to use the seat belt. The buckle does not lock, meaning the seat belt cannot restrain the occupant, creating a serious safety risk. The dealer did not disclose this safety defect and rushed the signing process. The dealer has not responded to my attempts to contact them, and the vehicle title has not been submitted to the DMV, so I currently have no permanent plate. UNKNOWN as to the internal cause, but the defect clearly existed before delivery.
SUSPENSION Jul 16, 2025
There was a loud sound coming from the driver’s side. I was told it was the wheel bearing & it sized to the axle & the entire hub/wheel bearing knuckle needed to be changed as well as the axle on the driver’s side. I was told it was dangerous to drive. Upon further inspection the mechanic told me the passenger side was seized to axle too so the same job will need to be done to the passenger side. Now they say I can drive the car but I’m worried about my safety & wonder why the wheel bearings are seizing the axles. This is a costly job. I’d prefer not to have to change the axle each time I need a new wheel bearing. I’m afraid to drive this car more than an hour from home or long distances.

Upper and lower hoses that the Antifreeze travels through disconnected while driving on the highway due to the dipping in the roadway. Not enough play in the hoses to accommodate the stretching and pulling on the hoses while the car goes up and down resulting in the hose’s disconnecting and losing antifreeze and the engine shutting down. It happened to me 2 times in a matter of 3 weeks resulting in this dangerous situation.

The contact owns a 2017 Land Rover Discovery Sport. The contact stated that while reversing from a parking spot, the steering wheel seized. There was an abnormal screeching sound detected. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, and the contact was informed that the failure was due to the steering rack and the motor had disconnected. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 64,271.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM Dec 12, 2023
My vehicle just hit over the 90,000 mark. I did all recommended services when they were due, less the spark plug replacement as I just hit that marker. I was driving on 285 in Atlanta in the far left lane and went to speed up which did not occur. My car was still on but would not accelerate. I ended up being able to get to pull over 5 lanes and park. Turned off my car and it would not crank. Called Land Rover SOS and waited 2 hours for a tow to the dealership. In that time I was able to get my car running to get some AC flowing 3 times and heard no crazy noises or knocking noises; attempted to drive each time and pushing the gas got me no more than 5 mph. Dealership called a couple days later stating that although my engine was sludge and metal free ‘meticulously clean’ I needed a new engine due to my engine jumping time. I corrected the service advisor that the timing chain jumps time, not the engine. Requested a service manager to contact me and was told the same thing and that it is a very common problem with my make and model around 100,000-120,000 miles. I requested they pull codes as they encounter this issue and know what it is and didn’t want to waste time and money in the process cuz they knew what the problem was. They provided the codes later that afternoon(P0011 & P052A) and I retrieved more than what they gave me when I took my car off the property to another mechanic as I was not forking over $14,000 for a new engine. I replaced the camshaft sensor myself as a starting point and car would turnover and sputter off like it wasn’t getting gas. After reading other complaints, I see this happens often. Not safe at all to be driving in 5-7 lanes of Atlanta hwy traffic. Still waiting to see what this other mechanic is going to fix.

I have replaced the tires, the rotors brakes and gad the vehicle aligned multiple times. The steering wheel is still off and not straight and the vehicle still keeps pulling to the right. Last mechanic that did alignment says the vehicle has no camber or castor that can be adjusted. But vehicle is aligned. Makes no sense to me, I believe this is a manufacturing defect.

2017 Discovery Sport SE - 110,000 miles - gearbox fault Traveling on Highway 81 South, Shenandoah, Virginia approx 70 mph when the vehicle suddenly stopped accelerating. The message on the dashboard indicated "Gearbox Fault". Pulled over stopped turned off the vehicle and then restarted, the message cleared and the vehicle returned to normal performance. After traveling another 40 miles, while accelerating uphill, the vehicle lost acceleration and began slowing to a stop. Highway 81 South is a well-traveled route with a speed limit of 70 and is popular with tractor-trailers. The potential for a severe accident was high considering the fact that we were traveling at the speed limit with multiple tractor-trailers at a speed of 70mph. The issue is intermittent so difficult to pick up on a diagnostic test. We have taken the vehicle to several mechanics who have noted this common with Land Rovers of this model.

2017 Land Rover Discovery Sport, HSE - 81,000 miles - broken timing chain, engine damage. The vehicle was stopped at a light when it completely shut down, would not restart, would not advance, and would not go into neutral to be pushed off to the side of the road. This occurred on my way to work during the morning rush hour. For my own safety, I had to leave the vehicle in the middle of the street and walk to a safe place to wait for assistance. The vehicle remained in the middle of a bi-directional, 2-lane intersection for 3 hours waiting for a tow truck. The vehicle has ~ 81,000 miles. Had an oil change and diagnostic one month prior to the failure. The diagnostic was done because the engine light came on, but then went back off. The diagnostic test reported no issues found with the vehicle. Just one month later, the engine failed. The diagnostic after the engine failure reported the timing chain broke and damaged the engine. This vehicle went from without any issues to a broken timing chain and engine damage in one month's time. Of note, when I looked up recalls on this vehicle, I noticed there was the same issue that resulted in a timing chain recall for the 2013-2014 Land Rover Discovery.

I purchased a car from Car N Drive on 01/04/2023, om 01/25/2023 my brake caliber came lose as it wasn't put on correctly. It scratched my rim. I requested Car N Drive to repair the caliber and replace the rim, they repaired the caliber and refused to replace the rim. Fast forward to 03/11/2023, I took my car to the Land Rover Dealership in Wilmington, DE to have an oil change to find that my brake pads was zip tied in place and my air filter was never replaced as they stated. I reached out to the manager and he told me he would order the parts on Monday, I reached out to them a few times to no one returning my calls or letting me know the parts was ordered. I have to make the repair myself, on Friday 03/31/2023.

There was no injury sustained. The vehicle was taken to a nearby dealer, who could not determine the cause of the failure and informed the contact that the sunroof needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the Insurance Company for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 88,000.

Hello, My 2017 Land Rover with 63,000 miles on it had engine failure while driving on the highway - (the car is a great condition and has been to all service requirements at the dealerships)- the dealership is stating the cam shaft sensor failure, allegedly causing total engine failure. I know there was a similar recall on the 2014 Land Rover Discovery Sport - I wasn't sure if you had also received any information on later years for the car model.
SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC Jan 31, 2023
The contact owns a 2017 Land Rover Discovery Sport. The contact stated that while the vehicle was at an independent mechanic for an oil change, the mechanic informed him that the brake pads were worn. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the rear brake pads were worn due to wear and tear. The dealer replaced the rear brake pads; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, and the dealer replaced all four brake pads and rotors due to the outer pad wear. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 40,617.
STRUCTURE:BODY Jan 21, 2023
The bottom part of my front grille came loose. After checking, the fixtures at the top were still ok, but one of the brackets that holds it at the bottom seemed to have broken. Entire piece lies behind the front bumper. The car has never been in an accident, not has been hit in the front. There is no damage to the outside of the grille, no scratches that would have indicated that another car would have hit it. Upon some research, I came across several cases, and it seems to be a known issue with this car. I took it to the dealer, they refused to fix it under the warranty, stated it was my fault. This is a faulty system of holding up the grille, it can come loose at any time, at any speed, and cause damage and accidents. Very unsafe.

When pressure was applied to brakes to start vehicle; the brake pedal went completely to the floor. No error was shown on display. Vehicle started normally and brakes seemed to have normal pressure again. Upon driving another 3-4 miles the brake pedal went to floor again and low brake fluid light came on dash. Serious safety issue. Vehicle was taken to closest Land Rover dealership where they informed new brake lines were needed for front brakes and recommended back brake lines also be replaced as they were brittle. Vehicle was recently serviced (regular interval service) by another dealership in town. Vehicle only has 35k miles.

The contact owns a 2017 Land Rover Discovery Sport. The contact stated that while she was in a drive-thru line and depressing the brake pedal, the pedal went to the floorboard. The contact stated that there were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that she then slowly drove her vehicle to the dealer, where the vehicle remained unrepaired. The contact stated that she was informed that the brake line on the driver’s side had ruptured and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 72,000.

I purchased a used 2017 Disco sport last July in great condition. After one year of driving it, and reaching a total of 70k miles, the camshaft intake actuator broke off, separating from the car. Clearly highlighting a textbook NHTSA “critical safety defect”. I only noticed the issue due to the check engine light and an engine fluttering noise. My local LR technician openly confirmed with me that this routinely happens with the 2015-2017 discovery sport and other Evoque models, as reported in LR’s technical bulletin (LTB00916NAS5 - Intake Camshaft Variable Cam Timing Actuator - Component Failure). In order to to fix this part I was been quoted $2362.00, and was told the part is essentially the same and could likely break again, putting myself and passengers at serious risk. When I told Land Rover’s customer service center of the issue they said they are not responsible since the warranty only cover the first 50k miles. Since this has been acknowledged by Land Rover as a common component failure, which has led to the part being on back order, it warrants LR to submit a formal recall on the part. Fixing it should also be free of charge. I feel it is unethical and irresponsible to Land Rover’s customers, to expect them to pay for an engineering failure both with their wallet and potentially their lives.

I have received many faults since owning this car (purchased: 10/19/2019); child safety-restraint fault, gear-box failure, turn signal in-operable intermittently Occurred approx. 11/2/2019 - The failure in turn signals intermittently almost resulted in a collision with someone speeding down the turning lane as I was merging over, the other drivers speed required him to travel into oncoming lanes to safely get around me without collision. Taken to Land Rover servicing center and in their possession from approx. 11/2/19 - 2/3/2020 - after having the car back for 9 days started to receiving the same fault messages, was taken back to Land Rover and in their possession from 2/13/2020 - 4/21/2020 Occurred approx. 6/1 - car completely lost acceleration on the freeway with a "gear box" fault message and was unable to accelerate in the middle of construction with reduced/split lanes with very few safe pull out areas for emergencies leading to impeding traffic due to no acceleration, using the quickly decelerating speed I had to get to an area I could pull far enough off of the freeway. After pulling off the side of the road and restarting the car in attempt to get to a exit ramp or safer location, I was presented with the same fault message and the car would not accelerate. Car had to be towed from location to Land Rover servicing center on 6/1/2021 - current. Vehicle has been inspected by Land Rover service department for extensive periods of time on several occasions, each time I am told they are unable to replicate the issue to find the problem therefore are unable to resolve the electrical faults that are risking my safety and other drivers. Each time the car is returned to me, similar electrical faults have appeared with no resolution. No insurance/police reports as physical damage/accidents. Can provide documentation of incidents and prior logs at a later time/upon request. Do not currently have access to a scanner. Car is available upon request for inspection

The door hinge cables within the door panels comes loose. This prevents the passenger the ability to open the door of the vehicle from the inside. At first my front passenger door came loose so I took it back to the Land Rover dealership and had it fixed by them removing the panel and re-hooking the door cable. Now my driver front door has come loose and I am unable to open my door from the inside. I am now currently waiting on the Land Rover dealership to return my calls to have this fixed. At first this was aggravating, however this is now a safety issue. I have an infant who began gagging and I was unable to get out of the car to get to my backseat to assist my baby from possibly chocking. I had to adjust my seat and then crawl over the seat to escape out the passenger door. This would be an even greater safety concern for the disable, in the case of an accident, or even a fire.

I WAS ADVISED AT THAT TIME TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION OF THE BRAKES. I DID AS I WAS TOLD, TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP 1.09.2019--THEIR EARLIEST DATE AVAILABLE. THEY ADVISED MY THAT MY BACK ROTORS WERE RUSTING, THAT THE LEFT BACK BRAKE WAS 2MM AND THE RIGHT WAS 4MM. THEY RECOMMENDED AT THAT TIME TO REPLACE ONLY THE LEFT SIDE. WHEN I QUESTIONED WHY THEY WERE NOT WEARING EQUALLY, THE SERVICE ADVISOR SUGGESTED THAT PERHAPS BECAUSE IT WAS MY FIRST TIME DRIVING AN SUV--WHICH WAS NOT THE CASE AND I TOLD HIM THIS AT THAT TIME. I ALSO ASKED WHY THE ROTORS WERE RUSTING SO QUICKLY, HE STATED THAT PERHAPS IT WAS BECAUSE OF THE AREA OF THE COUNTRY WHERE WE LIVE--I REFUTTED THIS STATING I HAVE OWNED OTHER SUVS BY OTHER MANUFACTURERS ALL WHILE LIVING IN THE SAME AREA AND DID NOT HAVE THIS ISSUE. I DID NOT ACCEPT THEIR QUOTE AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO BE REPAIRED ELSEWHERE--OF WHICH THEY TOO COULD NOT EXPLAIN WHY THE BRAKES WENT TO QUICKLY ON THE VEHICLE AND COMMENTED TO ME THAT THIS IS ABNORMAL. I CONTACTED LAND ROVER CUSTOMER SERVICE, THEY STATED THEY WOULD INVESTIGATE THE ISSUE--THEY SIMPLY CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND NOTHING MORE, ADVISING ME THAT THE BRAKES NEED REPAIRED OUT OF POCKET. MY CONCERN IS THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT WHERE THE ROTORS SHOULD NOT TYPICALLY RUST THIS QUICKLY, THE BRAKE PADS SHOULD NOT BE, AS THE SERVICE ADVISOR STATED BE "CHEWED UP FROM THE RUSTING ROTORS." LAST, THE BRAKES SHOULD NOT BE WEARING UNEVENLY ON THE VEHICLE.
STEERING Dec 19, 2018
I WAS DRIVING FROM WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY TO LONG ISLAND VIA I-695 HEADING TOWARD THE THROGS NECK BRIDGE ON 12/12/18. I WAS IN THE LEFT LANE JUST BEFORE THE LAST EXIT BEFORE THE BRIDGE WHEN MY DASHBOARD WENT DARK, THE RED BATTERY LIGHT (BELOW THE SPEEDOMETER) CAME ON, I LOST POWER AND STEERING. LUCKILY A SMALL SHOULDER OPENED UP AND I WAS ABLE TO TUG THE WHEEL LEFT TO GET INTO THE SHOULDER BEFORE MY CAR COMPLETELY ROLLED TO A STOP. I AVOIDED A CRASH BUT IT WAS LUCK. I HAD TO BE TOWED OFF THE HIGHWAY AND BACK TO THE DEALER. CLEARLY THIS WAS NO BATTERY ISSUE (AS DRIVING RECHARGES A BATTER). THE DEALER'S SERVICE CENTER DIAGNOSED IT AS A DISCONNECTED VACUUM LINE. THE REPAIR NOTES INDICATE THAT IT WAS RECONNECTED USING A "ZIP TIE." WHEN I INQUIRED ABOUT WHETHER THAT WAS THE APPROPRIATE FIX, THE DEALER SENT ME LR'S TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN DESCRIBING THE REPAIR FOR A CERTAIN RANGE OF VINS, INCLUDING MINE. THE ZIP TIE IS THE LAST STEP - THE BULLETIN ALSO SAYS THE LOCKING RING NEEDS TO BE DISCARDED AND A NEW ONE INSTALLED. THE DEALER STILL HAS NOT CONFIRMED WITH ME (2 DAYS LATER) THAT THEY DID THIS. IN ANY EVENT, THIS IS MORE THAN A TECHNICAL SERVICE ISSUE; THIS COULD BE A LIFE OR DEATH ISSUE THAT WARRANTS A RECALL FOR AFFECTED VEHICLES.

STRUCTURE:BODY Nov 12, 2018
THERE WERE POOR CONSTRUCTION OF THE B PILLAR AND SPOT WELDS THAT HAVE MADE THE FRAME LESS STABLE. THE ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO BE RESOLVED THROUGH MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS AT REPAIR, AND THE MANUFACTURER HAS KNOWN THIS ISSUE AND NOW DOES NOT WANT TO REPAIR, REPLACE OR REFUND. THIS HAS ALSO CREATED A DISTRACTING ISSUE OF NOISE IN THE DRIVER EAR THAT MAKES IT DISTRCTING TO DRIVE. THIS SAME ISSUE HAS BEEN ISSUED AS A RECALL BY SUBARU FOR A B PILLAR WELDING ISSUE WITH INSUFFICIENT SPOT WELDS WHICH IS THE SAME ISSUE THE LAND ROVER DISCOVERY SPORT HAS HAD AND IS DOCUMENTED IN NUMBEROUS AREAS BOTH INTERNAL TO LAND ROVER AND EXTERNAL SITES AND SOURCES. THIS HAPPENS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION ON AN SURFACE AND IS VERY DISTRACTING AND IS ALSO SEEMINGLY A SAFETY PROBLEM AS REPORTED BY THE NHTSA AS "NOT HAVING THOSE WELDS MEANS THE STRENGTH OF THE STRUCTURE IS REDUCED AND THAT COULD "INCREASE THE RISK OF INJURY IN A CRASH" SUBARU SAID. IN THIS CASE THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE FIXED, AND IN THE LAND ROVER ISSUE I HAVE THE PROBLEMS COULD NOT BE FIXED OVER 6 REPAIR ATTEMPTS ACROSS 2 DIFFERENT DISCOVERY SPORT VEHICLES, WHERE THE FIRST ONE WAS SWAPPED FOR A SECOND NEW ONE WHICH BOTH EXPERIENCE THE SAME PROBLEM.

FRIDAY MAY 11, 2018 WHILE DRIVING WESTBOUND ON TWO LANE HIGHWAY US 90, APPROXIMATELY 8 MILES EAST OF LIBERTY, TEXAS POWER FAILED. WAS DRIVING 60 MILES PER HOUR, APPROXIMATELY, AND TWO WARNING MESSAGES APPEARED. GEARBOX FAULT AND PARKING BRAKE FAULT. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OUT OF TRAFFIC LANE BY COASTING AND STOP ON SIDE OF ROAD. PLACED VEHICLE IN PARK AND READ THE FAULTS AGAIN. WAS NOT ABLE TO MOVE GEAR SELECTOR OUT OF PARK. SHUT OFF ENGINE AND RESTARTED WITH FOOT ON BRAKE. STILL SAME FAULT MESSAGES ALTERNATING. UNABLE TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK WITH FOOT ON BRAKE. CALLED LAND ROVER ASSISTANCE AND THEY SUGGESTED TURNING VEHICLE BACK OFF AND THEN ON AGAIN. NO RESOLUTION AFTER THREE TRIES. VEHICLE TOWED BY FLATBED WRECKER TO SOUTHWEST LAND ROVER HOUSTON TEXAS. WRECKER DRIVER STATED THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH LAND ROVERS IN GENERAL AND WAS VERY HELPFUL. AT DEALER THE VEHICLE WAS UNLOADED FROM WRECKER AND NO PROBLEMS FOUND. DEALER DID NOT HAVE EXPLANATION FOR REASON NO POWER AND COULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK. NO FAULT CODES WERE RECORDED BY COMPUTER. IF ROAD DID NOT HAVE SHOULDER, COULD HAVE CAUSED SEROUS OR FATAL ACCIDENT. MANY ROADS IN HOUSTON DO NOT HAVE ESCAPE LANES OR SHOULDERS AND SPEEDS ARE IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH. CONCERNED NO FAULT CODES RECORDED AND NO GUARANTEE WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN.
