AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:PASSENGER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2001-2003 Maxima, 2002-2006 Sentra, 2002-2004 Pathfinder, 2007-2011 Versa Sedan and Versa Hatchback, 2001-2004 Infiniti I30 and I35, 2002-2003 Inifiniti QX4, 2003-2008 Infiniti FX35 and FX45 and 2006-2010 M35 and M45 vehicles. The vehicles are equipped with non-desiccated, frontal passenger air bag inflators containing phase stabilized ammonium nitrate (PSAN) propellant that were used as interim remedy parts for previous Takata recalls. These inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.
Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front passenger air bag inflators with alternate desiccated inflators, free of charge. The recall began February 12, 2020. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 888-737-9511 or Infiniti customer service at 888-810-3715.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE TRANSVERSE LINKS ON THE LEFT AND RIGHT SIDES WITH NEW ONES. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN JULY 29, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261 OR INFINITI AT 1-800-662-6200.

In the last 2 months I have had the front passenger tire blow out 3 times. After this last tire repair the car started to shake, vibrate and make a knocking noise while driving. I had to get my vehicle towed and now I have no way to work. I have included an estimate of the repairs as well as a written warranty that was given to the previous owner. I RECENTLY TOOK MY CAR IN FOR A REGULAR SMOG CHECK, AND THE TECHNICIAN REPORTED THAT THERE IS 1 OPEN RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE. I CALLED AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH INFINITI OF ROSEVILLE. BROUGHT MY VEHICLE IN AND THE TECH TOLD ME THERES NO NEED TO REPLACE THE AFFECTED PARTS BEING AS THE CAR HAS 202K MILES.

THEN OUT OF NO WHERE THE CAR AT 40 MPH ENGINE BEGIN WILDLY REVVING THE RPMS WENT DIRECTLY HOME AND IN PARK IT WAS DOING THE SAME THING. TURNED IT OFF CALLED A TOW TRUCK HAD IT TOWED IN TO LOCAL SHOP. A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON SHOWING A P0505 CODE. THE SHOP REPLACED THE IACM AND THEN THE ECU AT A COST OF OVER CAR WAS RETURNED SAME CODE AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON THE MECHANIC SAID IT WOULD NOT RELEARN IDLE AND TO DRIVE IT AROUND AND SEE IF THAT WOULD HELP. I AM AN ELDERLY WOMAN AND I SPEND THE NEXT FEW DAYS RIDING THE BRAKE TO KEEP THE CAR IN CONTROL. IDLE WAS RUNNING HIGH IN PARK AND DRIVE. I WAS BECOMING AFRAID OF THE CAR AND DECIDED TO TAKE IT TO THE INFINITI DEALER FOR REPAIRS. WITH SAME P0505 CODE AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND IN LESS THEN SEVEN DAYS THE IACM AND ECU ONCE AGAIN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THAT'S BECAUSE THE MOTOR MOUNTS FAILED AND SINCE THEY ARE FLUID FILLED THEY LEAKED CAUSING THE OTHER PARTS TO SHORT OUT. THE INFINITI DEALER SAID THE THREE PARTS ARE ALL ON THE SAME CIRCUIT BUT THIS IS ONLY KNOWN TO INFINITI MECHANICS. THE REPAIR IS NOW OVER $3000.00 PUS THE FIRST CHARGE. THIS IS WAY MORE THEN MY CAR VALUE. I RESEARCHED THIS CONDITION ON THE INTERNET. KIDS HAVE BEEN DRIVING THESE CARS WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURS AT 80 MPH WITH BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE. I NEVER WRITE ANYTHING ON THE INTERNET BUT I AM CONCERNED THIS IS GOING TO CAUSE A CRASH AND SOMEONE MAY BE SERIOUSLY HURT. CAR HAS 110000. "TAKATA RECALL".... I RECEIVED AN AIRBAG SAFETY RECALL BACK IN OCT 2013. I TOOK THE CAR TO KUNI WESTSIDE INIFINITI, LYNNWOOD, WA.... THEY COMPLETED THE RECALL WITH INFLATOR -AIR BAG, AS-K8E61-7994D. I AM UNAWARE AS TO WHICH AIR BAG WAS REPLACED. RECENTLY THE AIR BAG INDICATOR LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD STARTED FLASHING. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS NO RECENT RECALL, JUST THE ONE BACK IN 2013. THEY INFORMED ME TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT AND THEY WOULD CHECK IT OUT... THE DEALERSHIP IS APPROX 80 MILES AWAY FROM MY HOME. I AM 88 YRS OLD AND I HAVE YET TO TAKE IT IN.... WHAT IS THE "FLASHING LIGHT" TELLING ME???

THIS DID NOT ALLEVIATE THE ISSUE. AFTER FURTHER TESTS, THEY DETERMINED IT WAS THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM). THIS HAD TO BE CHANGED BY AN INFINITI DEALERSHIP. WHEN I WENT TO THE DEALER, THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE THROTTLE CONTROL BODY AND WOULD COST $1300 TO REPAIR AND FIX THE PROBLEM. I INQUIRED IF THIS MEANT THE ECM WOULD NEED REPLACEMENT AND THEY SAID IT WOULDN'T. AFTER REPLACING THE THROTTLE CONTROL BODY, THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE MOTOR MOUNTS NEEDED TO BE CHANGED SINCE IT INTERACTS WITH THE THROTTLE CONTROL BODY AND ECM AND THE IDLE CONTROL VALVE TO MAKE IT ALL WORK PROPERLY. THIS WOULD COST AN ADDITIONAL $3900. AT THIS POINT, SINCE THE CAR'S BLUE BOOK VALUE IS LESS THAN $3000, IT NO LONGER MADE SENSE TO MAKE THE REPAIR BUT I DID HAVE TO PAY THE $1300 TO COVER THE COST OF THE REPLACED THROTTLE CONTROL BODY. MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT THIS IS A WELL-KNOWN ISSUE TO INFINITI (AND NISSAN) AND THEY KNOW THE EXACT STEPS REQUIRED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. AFTER REPLACING THE THROTTLE CONTROL BODY, THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE MOTOR MOUNTS NEEDED TO BE CHANGED SINCE IT INTERACTS WITH THE THROTTLE CONTROL BODY AND ECM AND THE IDLE CONTROL VALVE TO MAKE IT ALL WORK PROPERLY. THIS WOULD COST AN ADDITIONAL $3900. AT THIS POINT, SINCE THE CAR'S BLUE BOOK VALUE IS LESS THAN $3000, IT NO LONGER MADE SENSE TO MAKE THE REPAIR BUT I DID HAVE TO PAY THE $1300 TO COVER THE COST OF THE REPLACED THROTTLE CONTROL BODY. MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT THIS IS A WELL-KNOWN ISSUE TO INFINITI (AND NISSAN) AND THEY KNOW THE EXACT STEPS REQUIRED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. MY COMPLAIN IS THAT THEY DO NOT DISCLOSE THE FULL SPECTRUM AND COSTS OF THE REPAIR UNTIL AFTER THEY'VE HAD YOU PERFORM AT LEAST ONE OF THE THREE OR FOUR REPAIRS "NECESSARY TO UNCOVER THE FULL EXTENT OF THE PROBLEM" THEREBY ENSURING THEY GET PAID AT LEAST $1000 OR MORE JUST TO GET YOU ON THE HOOK FOR A LARGER BILL LATER. THIS WELL MAINTAINED 2001 INFINITI I30 WITH 74,000 MILES HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR APPROX. 11.5 YEARS BY THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND SPOUSE IN THE CINCINNATI AREA. THE CAR HAS BEEN GARAGED 99% OF ALL EVENINGS DURING THAT TIME AND HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. APPROXIMATELY 2008 THE LOWER RADIATOR SUPPORT (FRONT CROSS FRAME TIE BAR) STARTED TO RUST NEAR THE CENTER OF THIS BOXED FRAME MEMBER. PORTIONS OF THE TOP AND FRONT SIDE OF THIS FRAME MEMBER RUSTED THROUGH COMPLETELY SOME TIME IN 2012. THE HOOD LATCH MECHANISM AND HORN ARE FASTENED TO A VERTICAL STEEL SUPPORT THAT IS BOLTED TO THE FRONT OF THIS FRAME MEMBER, JUST LEFT OF THE RUST PERFORATION. WE INTEND TO DRIVE THIS CAR FOR MANY MORE YEARS AS WE HAVE IN THE PAST WITH SEVERAL OTHER CARS IF THIS DOES NOT BECOME A SAFETY PROBLEM, IF IT HASN'T ALREADY. MY GUESS IS WE WILL NEED TO HAVE THE FRONT FRAME TIE BAR REPAIRED IF POSSIBLE TO AVOID FUTURE HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS (IE. HOOD POPPING OPEN WHILE DRIVING AND/OR UNSTABLE FRONT END CONTROL). THIS RUST PERFORATION MORE THAN LIKELY LESSENS THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF THE CAR IN A FRONT END COLLISION. I HAVE NEVER IN MY 35+ YEARS OF CAR OWNERSHIP ENCOUNTER SUCH A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. WHEN I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR SERVICE MY MECHANIC NOTICED EXCESSIVE RUSTING ON THE FRAME BELOW THE RADIATOR. IT IS THE ONLY PLACE ON THE ENTIRE CAR UNDERBODY WITH RUST. THE METAL BAR IS ALMOST COMPLETELY ROTTED THROUGH, AND MY MECHANIC SAID THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE - IF I HIT A POTHOLE OR A BUMP THE BAR WILL CRACK AND THE ENGINE/RADIATOR WILL LOSE SUPPORT. MY CAR ONLY HAS 114,000 MILES. IT'S 12 YEARS OLD. ONLY ONE SPOT ON THE CAR HAS THE EXCESSIVE RUST THAT IS EATEN THROUGH.
