The contact’s son owns a 2011 Hyundai Genesis Coupe. The contact stated the brake light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic who performed a pressure test and determined that the ABS module had failed due to a leak. The contact was informed that the ABS module needed to be replaced. The contact stated that brake fluid was added for the brake light to turn off. The dealer informed the contact the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 57,444.
The brake lines and fuel lines were corroded. The corrosion of the brake lines would lead to brake failure and the corrosion of the fuel lines would lead to a fire. The Hyundai dealer was the first to find the brake problem and after inspection by my mechanic, the fuel lines were also found to be corroded. I took my car in for a recall service at the dealer and after the service my brake light would illuminate when decelerating(with or without brakes being applied) .

I was driving home on January 1, 2023 at 5 AM at about 60 mph on an interstate when I heard a sound come from the back of my car and then looked into the rearview mirror and smelled smoke and saw fire flames in my rear and side mirrors. I tried to use my brakes to stop my car, but the brakes would not work, so I took it out of Drive and put it into park… which slowed the car down and I was able to exit the car right before it burst into flames. The car is now a total loss.

Part number 82655-2M000 door handle base broke. This makes it so the door cannot be opened from the outside. If I were in an accident and my door was crushed no one could open the other door to get me out. This same pet was in a safety recall for a different model of theirs.
THE HYUNDAI GENESIS COUPE 2011 WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY DURING THE CRASH. HYUNDAI INSPECTED THE CAR AND DENIED ANY RESPONSIBILITY. *TR

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND MY BRAKES HAD BEEN WORKING FINE. ON MY WAY TO WORK WHILE APPROACHING A STOPLIGHT MY BRAKE PEDAL WAS PUSHED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR WITH LITTLE RESULT. I AM MEDIATELY PUMP MY BRAKES AFTERWARDS AND THE CORDED STOP. THE REST OF THE WAY TO WORK I HAD TO CONTINUOUSLY PUMP MY BRAKES IN ORDER TO STOP. MY BRAKE FLUID WAS CHECKED AND WAS FULL. I DROVE HOME WITH SAME ISSUE AND HAVE NOT DROVE CAR SINCE. WHEN THE PROBLEM FIRST HAPPENED I CAME OFF A HIGHWAY EXIT TO A STOP LIGHT.
I HAD 53,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. DRIVING ON HIGHWAY MY STEERING WHEEL GOT STIFF AND TOOK AN EXIT. MY VEHICLE WAS IN SMOKE AND TOWED TO NEAR BY HYUNDAI SERVICE CENTER. I WAS TOLD THAT TIMING BELT GOT BROKEN AND THAT IN-TURN CAUSED DAMAGE TO ENGINE PISTONS. HYUNDAI DECLINED TO OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE, AND SAID I HAVE TO PAY FOR ALL THE REPAIRS. I HAD TO SELL THE CAR FOR A FEW HUNDRED DOLLARS, BECAUSE THEY ASKED ABOUT 7K TO FIX A REPLACEMENT ENGINE.
MY FATHER IS CURRENTLY LOOKING AFTER MY VEHICLE AND WHILE HE WAS DOING ROUTINE CHECKS WHEN WENT TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PETAL IT SANK ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. HE LATER TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC WHO THEN BLEED THE SYSTEM A FEW TIMES ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT THE FRONT RIGHT BRAKE AND REAR LEFT BRAKE ARE OPERATING AS NORMAL. AS IT WOULD TURN OUT, HOWEVER, HYUNDAI ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS BUT ONLY FOR THE GENESIS SEDANS AND NOT THE COUPES. HYUNDAI RECALL #114 AND NHTSA RECALL #13V489000 STATE THE BRAKE FLUID THE MANUFACTURE USES DOES NOT PROTECT THE H.E.C.U. OR HYDRAULIC ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (A.K.A. ABS CONTROL UNIT) AGAINST INTERNAL CORROSION. SO THE INTERNAL VALVES WILL CORRODED AND PREVENT THE BRAKES FROM OPERATING PROPERLY. IN MY 2011 GENESIS COUPE THIS IS CURRENTLY THE ISSUE. OTHER COUPE OWNERS ARE HAVING SIMILAR ISSUES WHERE THEY CAN'T STOP THE CAR PROPER AND/OR THE BRAKE PETAL SINKS TO THE FLOOR AT RANDOM TIMES WHILE DRIVING SLOW OR AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND THE BRAKE DON'T OPERATE PROPERLY OR AT ALL! THE MANUFACTURE SEEMS TO BE AWARE OF THE ISSUE BUT WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. REPLACING THE MASTER CYLINDER AND COMPLETELY BLEEDING THE SYSTEM DOESN'T HAVE ANY AFFECT FOR THE ISSUE. TO REPLACE THE UNIT, I'M LOOKING AT ROUGHLY $3,200 OF MY OWN MONEY TO REPLACE THE H.E.C.U DUE TO DEFECTIVE BRAKE FLUID THAT HAS CORRODED THE INTERNALS. THE CAR HAS BARELY BEEN DRIVEN WITH LESS ABOUT 30K MILES ON IT. THIS A GRAVE SAFETY CONCERN AND HYUNDAI NEEDS TO ADDRESS THE ISSUES FOR NOT JUST THE SEDANS BUT THE COUPES AS WELL! IF I OR THE DRIVER OF MY CAR NEEDED TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY STOP THERE IS NO TELLING IF THE BRAKES WOULD OPERATE IN THAT MOMENT AS THEY SHOULD. INJURY OR DEATH COULD OCCUR FOR NOT JUST THE DRIVER BUT OTHER CASUALTIES THAT COULD BE PREVENTED IF HYUNDAI FIXES THIS ISSUE FOR ALL HYUNDAI GENESIS COUPES. BRAKE OPERATION IS VASTLY IMPORTANT IN ALL VEHICLES. THIS PROBLEM IS SERIOUS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI GENESIS. WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP NORMALLY WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT HAD TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE FLOORBOARD TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V113000 (SERVICE BRAKES). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
CAR HAS A MANUAL 6 SPEED TRANSMISSION WHICH HAD BEEN REPLACED TWICE (ONCE UNDER WARRANTY FOR 5TH GEAR GRIND @ 45K MILES AND AGAIN AFTER FACTORY WARRANTY EXPIRED WITH < 30K ON NEW TRANSMISSION). I HAD TO PAY OVER $2K OUT OF POCKET FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION AS HYUNDAI WOULD NOT WARRANTY IT. THE 6SPD MANUAL TRANSMISSION IS AN EXTREMELY COMMON DEFECT FOR ALL GENESIS COUPE MODELS, WITH MANY OWNERS NEEDING TO REPLACE IT MORE THAN ONCE AND HYUNDAI WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.
ON HIGHWAY DRIVING AT 70MPH, STEERING WHEEL GOT STIFF AND A/C, LIGHTS TURNED-OFF. I WAS TOLD DRIVE BELT IS BROKEN/TORN-OUT. VEHICLE HAS ONLY 53000 MILES AND I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE BRAND NEW AND FOLLOWED SERVICE SCHEDULE AT HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP. HYUNDAI IS DECLINING THE WARRANTY FOR THE BELT AND ENGINE REPAIRS. DEALERSHIP IS ASKING TO PAY 7000 OUT OF POCKET FOR REPAIRS.
I RECENTLY PURCHASED THIS CAR WITH ONLY 35000 MILES ON IT, AND THE 5TH GEAR HAD ALREADY BEEN GRINDING. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS FOR A 2011 CAR TO HAVE TRANNY ISSUES THAT EARLY ON. I THEN TOOK IT TO HYUNDAI TO GET IT REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY REPLACED IT. BUT THERE ARE 100S OF PAGES OF FORUMS THAT HAVE THE SAME ISSUE, NOW WITH ONLY 43000 MILES I CAN FEEL 5TH STARTING TO GRIND ON UPSHIFTS AGAIN... I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO BECAUSE I DONT WANT TO REPLACE A TRANSMISSION EVERY YEAR.
MY WIFE WAS HIT FROM THE REAR AND PUSHED INTO A TREE DEAD CENTER. THE AIR BAG DID NOT INFLATE. SHE RECEIVED 4 BROKEN RIBS AND A BROKEN CHEST BONE SHE WAS MAKING A U TURN AND THE OTHER CAR WAS SPEEDING AND HIT HER IN THE REAR AND PUSHED HER 100 FEET ACROSS THE STREET INTO A TREE.....UPDATED 10/19/15 *BF

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI GENESIS COUPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE GEAR BOX SEIZED AND SHIFTED THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THE FAILURE WAS RECURRING WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHER SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE REPLICATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 34,000.
THIS HAS HAPPENED A TOTAL OF 4 TIMES SINCE I HAVE OWNED THE CAR. THE FIRST HAPPENED A FEW MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR, WHEN TRYING TO STOP FROM 40MPH AT A RED LIGHT. THE BRAKES FAILED AND I RAN THE RED LIGHT AVOIDING ANY ACCIDENT. I DROVE APPROXIMATELY 25 MORE MILES WITH NO OCCURRENCE THE REST OF THE WAY HOME. NEXT MORNING WHEN DRIVING INTO THE GAS STATION AS I HIT THE DRIVEWAY ENTRANCE APPROXIMATELY 15MPH I WAS BRAKING AND THEN BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I HAD TO PUMP THE BRAKES SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THE PRESSURE CAME BACK AND I FINALLY STOPPED. I TURNED AROUND DROVE IT TO THE DEALER WITH NO OTHER ISSUES ALONG THE 8 MILE DRIVE. DEALER CHECKED ALL NORMAL ISSUES DROVE IT THEMSELVES AND WERE NOT ABLE TO FIND ?DUPLICATE THE COMPLAINT?. APPROXIMATELY 8 MONTHS LATER AFTER DRIVING 25 MILES ON THE FREEWAY I WAS EXITING MY EXIT TO WORK SLOWING DOWN AT APPROXIMATELY 30MPH WHILE BRAKING AND SLOWING DOWN THE BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR AND ALL PRESSURE WAS LOST I PUMPED THE BRAKES AND THEY WORKED. 2 WEEKS AGO I WAS DRIVING SURFACE STREETS AND WHILE SLOWING DOWN TO MAKE A RIGHT AT A RED LIGHT AT ABOUT 30MPH THE BRAKES FAILED I HAD TO PUMP THE BRAKES AGAIN TO REGAIN PRESSURE AND I STOPPED AS I ROUNDED THE CORNER INTO THE CROSS WALK. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET IT INTO THE DEALER YET. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING A DIFFERENT CAR AND PARKED THIS ONE UNTIL MY SCHEDULE ALLOWS ME TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING ON THE HYUNDAI FORUMS FOR INFORMATION AND THIS APPEARS TO BE ON THE FORUMS A LOT. SEVERAL HAVE RESULTED IN ACCIDENTS, EVEN A TOTAL LOSS OF ONE PERSON?S CAR. THE FORUMS ARE SAYING THAT THERE IS A VOLUNTARY RECALL AND IT HAS TO DO WITH THE MASTER CYLINDER, DEALER REPLACES AS THE COMPLAINTS COME IN. I GUESS I WILL FIND OUT. *TR
