After getting the engine recall done on my vehicle over 6 months ago, I was driving down the highway at 70 mph last Saturday and without warning "Press Start" began flashing on my dashboard and I immediately began decelerating and my car put itself in Neutral. I was able to get to the side of the road safely. I was then able to turn the car off and back on. I was able to again accelerate into the road but once I reached 3/4th gear my car again began beeping with the "Press Start" warning and put itself into neutral. I was again able to coast on the side of the road to a stop where I called a tow truck to drop at my local GMC dealer. When roadside assistance showed up the car wouldn't even turn on anymore and I'm now being told that I need a full engine replacement even though I correctly completed the recall previously.

The contact owns a 2022 GMC Yukon XL. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA Campaign: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the repair failed to prevent a failure from occurring. The day after the recall repair was completed at a local authorized dealer, while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle hesitated to maintain automotive power while the accelerator pedal was depressed, and an abnormal sound was coming from under the hood. No warning light was illuminated. In addition, the contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle with the Push-to-Start feature, the engine hesitated while turning over. The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer, where it was left for two days for further diagnosis; however, the cause of the failure was not known. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 74,000

Car would not engage in reverse. Stranded and needed a tow into dealership. Also experienced rough shifting especially when accelerating in lower gears. Dealership said It needs a new Transmission Control Valve which is a known issue with my model and there has been a recall yet my specific VIN was not included in this recall!!! Dealer says the part needed is on backorder with no listed date of when it will be coming back in stock. Quoting me $3300 out of pocket to cover this repair once they can locate the needed part. No loaner car available and this is our main family vehicle!!! They called earlier to tell me they found the needed part at another dealer but it’s now going to cost me $600 more bc they had to buy it off the other dealership. What is happening!? This is not ok! My car should be covered under the recall!

I was driving down the road and my vehicle went into limp mode, and I had reduced acceleration. I got to my destination then could not reverse the vehicle out of the parking space, reverse would not engage and allow me to have acceleration power. Because the parking space was on an incline we could roll backwards then drive forward, in limp mode, to a nearby mechanic. The vehicle diagnostic codes they got were: no reverse, p0700, p0776 and p18a1. They told us the repair needed would be to remove and replace the valve body assembly for $2,862.40. There were no warning lights that came on prior to the incident. Once the vehicle went into limp mode the check engine light came on. We had a Chevy dealer and got a second opinion at a transmission shop to check the transmission in December 2025, because we were concerned about a possible hard shift when shifting vehicle from park to drive, but both places concluded there were no problems. We now have had it towed to a transmission shop for a second opinion. It is available for inspection. We see a recall issued to other 2022 gmc Yukon xl that does not come up when we put our vin # in, but could possibly apply to our vehicle too is recall #: N252536750.

Sudden loss of propulsion at highway speed in lane of travel. Multiple vehicles almost ran into my vehicle as this was happening and alap afterwards, because I couldn’t get it out of the lane of travel all the way. It was towed to the dealer and determined to have a seized engine. There were zero lights or sounds preceding the loss of power. Safety recall N252494003 was performed at dealer in September 2025 and vehicle was deemed clear and safe.
POWER TRAIN Mar 4, 2026
The contact owns a 2022 GMC Yukon XL. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 MPH, the vehicle jerked as if the brake pedal was depressed and failed to accelerate as intended, with the check engine warning light illuminated. The message "Reduced Acceleration - Drive with Care" was displayed. The contact stated that when the vehicle was stopped, the gear shifter was shifted into reverse, but the vehicle failed to respond. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that there was a failure with the transmission valve. The contact was informed that the transmission valve needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
POWER TRAIN Mar 4, 2026
I noticed vehicle jerked a couple times when it shifted gears while driving. Shortly after, reduced power mode light came on. Vehicle did not shift past lower gears and had no reverse. Took to local dealership, they said it needed a transmission valve body overhaul. This is a known problem with 2022 gmc yukon xl, however, they said it was not associated with my vin. This cost me almost $2,000 out of pocket to repair.

On January 24, 2026, my wife was driving the vehicle we purchased in May 2025 from Ziegler GMC in Lincolnwood, Illinois. While traveling on the highway in WI the vehicle suddenly lost power without warning. She was traveling with our [XXX] son at the time and was able to safely maneuver the vehicle off the highway onto an exit ramp. Despite multiple attempts, the vehicle would not restart. She contacted me and arranged for a tow. We waited approximately four hours for roadside assistance before the vehicle was towed to the nearest GMC dealership, located roughly one mile from where the breakdown occurred. Several days later, the dealership completed diagnostics and informed us that the engine required full replacement. At that time, no replacement vehicle was provided. Approximately one week later, we were finally issued a loaner vehicle. As of today, the vehicle has remained in the shop continuously since January 24. On February 23, we were informed that the necessary parts had only just arrived. There is still no estimated completion date for the repair. The vehicle is covered under both the manufacturer’s warranty and an extended warranty. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Engine Failed after driving 121 miles on Highway from Austin to Sealy. As I exited the Hwy. The motor quit, and would not start. It was stranded in a turn lane at the exit. Tow truck has to remove car from road and tow to dealership where they diagnosed the engine failure
ENGINE Feb 18, 2026
Engine failure occurred while transferring passengers in a busy road. The vehicle started making noises at first I thought it was a belt that might have been going bad. I looked at all the gages which did not indicate any issues with the battery or oil pressure or any vital issues that might show and merged to the right lane. Less than 2 miles down the road engine shut off and I was able to coast into a parking lot. I took this vehicle as requested for the recall and the only recommendation was to start using OS 0W40 and a new oil cap indicating the required oil type. These vehicles should be pulled off the roads, they create a huge safety hazard on our roads and sooner or later someone is going to get killed.

The contact owns a 2022 GMC Yukon XL. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The failure was a consistent failure. No warning lights were illuminated. The message "Press START Again" was displayed, and the contact restarted the vehicle, and the message "Engine Oil HOT" was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under an unknown recall prior to the failure to prevent the failure; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer to be diagnosed; however, the diagnostic result was pending. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

The vehicle failed to accelerate to exceed 30 MPH. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and it was determined that the transmission valve body had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.

GM released a special warranty for the coolant control valve. My vin number does not qualify but it is currently at the dealership getting replaced because it failed. I don't understand how the same exact vehicle with a different Vin qualifies but mine does not. I am within the time frame and mileage of their warranty for their special coverage but because my vin isn't on the list I don't get the special coverage/warranty.

After a dealership repair to the rear differential, my 2022 GMC Yukon XL experienced a sudden driveline failure. A component detached underneath the vehicle, resulting in loss of control and immediate disablement. This occurred shortly after service and without warning. The vehicle is routinely driven at highway speeds while transporting multiple minor children. This appears to be a serious post-repair safety defect.

Traveling at 70MPH the engine failed. There were no warning lights or alerts prior to the engine failing. No power at all after failure. Was able to coast to the shoulder of the busy highway without getting into an accident but was then left stranded as the engine would not restart. Upon inspection at GMC dealer I was informed there was a "catastrophic engine failure" and the entire engine would need to be replaced. Note this vehicle was subject a recall for similar engine failures and deemed not to be at risk after inspection by a GMC dealership.

Engine was replaced pursuant to Recall 25V-274. We have driven approximately 4,000 miles since the engine was replaced and all of the oil in the car is “gone”. This match’s with other consumers grouped in investigation RQ26001.
FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS Jan 28, 2026
Two weeks ago I heard a faint ticking sound. I had a professional look at it and they said that I had a cylinder sticking and to add an additive the next oil change. I still had 1,500 miles until then and so I did not do that. That noise stopped a day later. Last Friday, it started to tick again, and then it got very loud. I live rurally and was 45 minutes from home. The engine went from ticking to full clunking and very low power in just a moment. I luckily found a small engine shop to check the codes, but as I was parked there, the car would not go in reverse! He had to clear the codes to get it to go into reverse. I had to then slowly drive 45 minutes back to our small town. I drove to and immediately parked it at our local repair shop. It can not be driven now. The lights that came on were the Rear axle system off, forward collision system, service traction control, engine light flashing, and service ESC light. Not to forget that it would not go into reverse. Also the suspension system seemed to malfunction and not lift or lower the car.It seemed to clunk and try, but nothing happened. The whole car basically went down. I see there is a recall for this year or car, but my VIN is not included. I am hoping that it will be included as the repair shop is telling me it will be close to $10,000.

The contact owns a 2022 GMC Yukon XL. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The contact stated that while driving approximately 75 MPH, the oil warning light illuminated, and after 15 seconds, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. There was smoke coming from the engine compartment. The contact pulled over to the side of the road; however, the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, and the contact was informed that there was no oil in the engine, causing the engine to seize. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer, where an unknown diagnosis was provided. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but declined to repair the vehicle because the failure was not associated with the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM Jan 20, 2026
On 8/22/25 was brought to my local GMC dealer for the L87 engine propulsion recall. The dealership tested and said the vehicle passed the test. On 12/3/25 while driving on a multi lane highway the vehicle engine stopped abruptly. The message restart engine appeared on the dashboard. I had to negotiate other vehicle travelling at highway speeds to get to coast off to a side street. The transmission went into "park" and could not be shifted to neutral with a message on the dashboard "transmission cannot be shifted in this configuration". I was blocking the roadway and responding police asked that I attempt to restart the vehicle. I did this numerous times but would not start and the battery ran down. The vehicle was towed to the GMC dealer who said the battery failed and replaced it at my cost even after I told them it was fine and run down from trying to start numerous times while blocking traffic. On 12/17/25 while trying on the same highway, the engine abruptly shut off again in high speed traffic with the same message. I couldn't get fully in the shoulder dye to residual snow from plowing coasting powerless as the vehicle slowed. The transmission locked into park again and I ended up getting towed back to the GMC dealership. They advised me the engine seized up and would have to be replaced. I am still waiting to get the vehicle back

While driving on a major highway at approximately 60 to 65 mph the vehicle shut down loss of power and steering without any warning lights. I was able to safely maneuver the vehicle to the emergency lane and contacted AAA to have it towed to nearest dealership. A fuel pump module was replaced- I have been following gmc recent recall of 600k which gives same scenario for their larger engine failure not including the 5.3L Ecotec V8 that I own. I experienced the same failure. Although it was fixed as a sensor module fault, I believe it’s a bigger problem that is not being addressed.

The contact owns a 2022 GMC Yukon XL. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate, and the engine stalled. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the failure occurred while driving on a busy highway, and the contact's wife and four minor children were also occupants of the vehicle. The contact stated that the incident was significantly scary. The vehicle was driven to the shoulder of the road, which the contact considered unsafe for him and his family. The contact stated that both the contact and his family, which included a one-year-old child, had to walk to a safe location and sat for more than 40 minutes. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the engine had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer informed the contact that the repair was covered under NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling), but the repair could take two months, and the parts needed to be ordered. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 72,020.

I am writing to formally express my dissatisfaction with the vehicle I purchased from your dealership. Despite my expectations at the time of purchase, the vehicle has not met the standards that were represented to me. This letter is intended to address my concerns regarding the vehicle’s features, undisclosed recalls, and significant mechanical and safety issues discovered immediately after delivery. I discovered—through the GMC mobile application, not through the dealership—that the vehicle had two to three active recalls at the time I received it, including recalls involving the engine and transmission. I was never informed of these recalls by the dealership prior to or at the time of sale, which is extremely concerning. After discovering the recalls myself, I scheduled a service appointment. I was informed that the recalls were addressed and marked as resolved in GMC Springdale. Despite the recalls being cleared, only two days later, the vehicle began experiencing issues. The screen displayed warning messages, and the vehicle developed a vibration, to the point that it became unsafe to drive. They are changing us $820+tax I was forced to use roadside assistance, it hasn't been a month yet and the dealer are refusing to cover the damage. I have been calling but they said they are busy or they use somebody else to speak.

While driving northbound on I2 at approximately 70mph I experienced a sudden loss of engine power. Vehicle would not accelerate and engine ultimately powered off. I was able to move across three lanes of traffic and pull over on the side of the highway. I attempted to restart the vehicle but was unsuccessful and after about 10 minutes the engine managed to start. The ‘check engine’ light was on after the incident and upon arriving back home I ran a code scan that resulted in code P129F indicates a problem with the fuel pump control module. There is recall #N252516900 dated 9/11/2025 which covers this issue for 2021 models only. This occurred on a 2023 model.

I did slam my breaks before impact but I would guess I was still going 30-35mph at impact. Car has not been inspected yet. It is still in our possession. We have made in insurance claim. No warning light of any kind were on before the crash.

At highway speed, in heavy traffic, and falling snow, the engine seized with sudden loss of power, including loss of brake and steering sensitivity. We were traveling downhill so, while avoiding other traffic and weather, maintained momentum to pull over to the side. We were stranded at night in snowy weather in remote Utah. It took hours to get towed to the nearest town, Fillmore, where the mechanic determined that the engine was seized and that no mechanic in the town could repair the issue. GM would not tow vehicle to our home, they would only tow to nearest dealership - which was farther away from our home (over 3 hours away). After repeated attempts with GM for tow assistance over the course of 13 days, we towed the vehicle to Salt Lake City, our home city at our own expense. The Dealer said 6 of 8 rod bushings were bad, ordered a new engine which took over 2 months to receive and install. Catastrophic event occurred [XXX], Time trying to get GM to tow vehicle, ending with our own expense 2/26/2025, Finally returned from dealership with new engine 5/1/2025 - 64 days from dealership receipt of vehicle - 77 days from catastrophic event. Continues to have electrical issues that affect controls like radio, ac/heat, start/stop. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The driver-side headlight and turn signal on my 2022 GMC Yukon stopped functioning completely. This issue began before GM recall 22V‑903 and worsened immediately after the recall repair was performed. The recall repair required three separate dealership visits because it was initially performed improperly, yet the problem was never fully resolved. During interactions with GM and the dealership, I was told the repair might involve a $600 part, but they could not guarantee that replacing it would fix the issue. It is unreasonable and unsafe for me to be expected to cover the cost of repairs for a problem that was caused or worsened by a recall repair performed incorrectly. The malfunction creates a serious safety hazard, as oncoming drivers cannot see my turn signals, and I nearly had an accident because of it. The problem has been confirmed by the dealership and documented in GM Case #74327012. Prior to complete failure, the driver-side turn signal and daytime running lights occasionally stayed on after shutting off the vehicle which I was told that was caused by the recall. The vehicle has been inspected by authorized GM dealerships multiple times, but the defect persists. The component is available for inspection upon request.
