FORD IS RECALLING MODEL YEARS 1995-2003 WINDSTAR, 2000-2003 EXCURSION DIESEL, 1993-1997 AND 1999-2003 F-250 SD THROUGH F-550 SD DIESEL, 1992-2003 E-150 THROUGH E-550, 1995-2002 EXPLORER, 1997 AND 2002 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER, 1995-1997 AND 2001-2003 RANGER, AND 1994 F53 VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE TEXAS INSTRUMENTS SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH (SCDS). THE SCDS MAY LEAK INTERNALLY AND THEN OVERHEAT, SMOKE, OR BURN.
Remedy: FORD WILL NOTIFY OWNERS THAT DEALERS WILL INSTALL A FUSED WIRING HARNESS IN LINE WITH THE SCDS. ON 1999-2003 WINDSTAR VEHICLES WITH A LEAKING SCDS, DEALERS WILL ALSO INSPECT THE ABS CONTROL MODULE CONNECTOR AND REPAIR AS NECESSARY. REPAIRS WILL BE COMPLETED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 27, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT FORD AT 1-888-222-2751.

ON CERTAIN MINIVANS ORIGINALLY SOLD IN OR CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN THE STATES OF CONNECTICUT, DELAWARE, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, IOWA, MAINE, MARYLAND, MASSACHUSETTS, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, MISSOURI, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW JERSEY, NEW YORK, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA, RHODE ISLAND, VERMONT, WEST VIRGINIA, WISCONSIN, AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA. DURING ASSEMBLY, SOME BRAKE LINES WERE INSTALLED IN A TWISTED POSITION, CAUSING CONTACT WITH THE DASH PANEL INSULATOR ABOVE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THIS CONTACT COULD ABRADE THE BRAKE LINE CORROSION PROTECTION, CONSEQUENTLY, SALT OR WATER ABSORBED IN THE DASH PANEL INSULATOR WOULD PROMOTE CORROSION. THIS CORROSION COULD ULTIMATELY LEAD TO A LEAK IN THE BRAKE LINE.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE BRAKE LINE FOR CORROSION AND CLEARANCE CONDITIONS. A BRAKE LINE THAT IS NOT CORRODED WILL BE REPOSITIONED. A BRAKE LINE THAT IS CORRODED OR LEAKING WILL BE REPLACED WITH A NYLON COATED BRAKE LINE AND SECURED USING THREE RETAINING CLIPS TO ASSURE CLEARANCE FROM THE INSULATOR. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN MAY 10, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT FORD AT 1-866-436-7332.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE HOOD AREA FOR ANY DAMAGE ALONG THE LEADING EDGE OF THE HOOD. IF THERE IS ANY EVIDENCE OF BOND SEPARATION, THE HOOD WILL BE REPLACED. IF THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF BOND SEPARATION, ADDITIONAL ADHESIVE WILL BE APPLIED BETWEEN THE INNER AND OUTER HOOD PANELS.

AFTER RELOCATING TO GA, BEGAN EXPERIENCING STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE. ODOR WAS STRONGEST AFTER TANK FILLED. SHORTLY THEREAFTER BEGAN FINDING WET STAINS ON GROUND ON LEFT SIDE OF VEHICLE. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION FOUND GASOLINE LEAKING FROM GAS TANK ON DRIVERS SIDE FROM A CRACK IN TANK IN VICINITY OF FORWARD GAS TANK STRAP.AFTER EXHAUSTIVE RESEARCH FOUND THERE WAS A RECALL ON THESE VEHICLES FOR THIS PROBLEM.VEHICLE WAS REGISTERED WITH FORD ON ITS WEB SITE AND SHOWS NO RECALLS BY VIN#. ALSO INFORMED BY ATHENS FORD THAT THERE WERE NO REPLACEMENT TANKS AVAILABLE ANYWHERE IN THE COUNTRY. HAVE BEEN TEMPORARILY SEALING LEAKS AND KEEPING VERY LITTLE FUEL IN THE TANK. ALSO FOUND NO AFTERMARKET TANKS AVAILABLE FOR THIS VEHICLE.HAVE NOT BEEN NOTIFIED BY FORD AS OF YET OF ANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE ALTHOUGH THEY HAVE SERVICED IT SINCE ITS PURCHASE IN PA, UNTIL IT ARRIVED IN GA. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1995 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING AND RESTARTED. IN ADDITION, THERE WAS A WHINING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TWO TIMES AND EACH TIME THE ENGINE BELT AND TENSIONER PULLEY ASSEMBLY WERE REPLACED. THREE DAYS AFTER THE SECOND REPAIR WAS PERFORMED THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED FOR THE MOST RECENT FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 154,000.

AFTER FILLING THE VEHICLE FUEL TANK AT THE FULLERTON MD BJ'S WAREHOUSE STORE, GASOLINE BEGAN SPILLING FROM THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE ONTO THE PAVEMENT. THE BALTIMORE COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT (BCFD) WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE AND RESPONDED WITH THREE PIECES OF EQUIPMENT. BCFD APPLIED ABSORBENT TO THE SPILLED FUEL AND CONTAINED IT UNTIL THEY COULD TRANSFER THE FUEL (APPROX. 25 GALS) FROM MY VEHICLE'S TANK INTO A SAFE STORAGE CONTAINER. AFTER THEY COMPLETED THAT SERVICE, THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP, BOB DAVIDSON FORD, FOR DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR. THE VEHICLE TANK HAD DEVELOPED A STRUCTURAL CRACK IN ITS WALL APPROX. 3 INCHES LONG ("HAIRLINE") IN THE SAME LOCATION ALREADY DESIGNATED THE DOCUMENTATION DESCRIBED BY NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 99V309 / FORD RECALL NO. 99S33, IMMEDIATELY ABOVE THE CENTER LEFT TANK SUPPORT STRAP. I CAN PRODUCE CLEAR PHOTOS OF THE CRACK. I REQUIRE ASSISTANCE FROM THE NHTSA IN RECOVERING THE $1,660.01 I PAID THE FORD DEALER ON 10/9/12 FOR THE REPAIR OF THE TANK (THEY COULD ONLY FIND A USED TANK TO INSTALL) FOR WHAT IS OBVIOUSLY A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT. AS OF THIS DATE, 8 DAYS LATER, THE USED "NEW" TANK HAS ALSO BEGUN TO LEAK. MANY THANKS.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1995 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE PARKED AT A GAS STATION, THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE FROM UNDER THE HOOD WITHOUT WARNING. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER AN UNKNOWN RECALL AND AN INVESTIGATOR WOULD FURTHER INSPECT THE VEHICLE FOR THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER THE UNKNOWN RECALL HOWEVER, THE CONTACT STATED THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED FOLLOWING REPAIRS. THE CONTACT HAD NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM BEFORE REPAIRS. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH THE MANUFACTURER WHO PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE AND HE WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE A DEALER WHO WOULD MAKE FURTHER REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000 AND THE CURRENT WAS 177,000.

MY 1995 FORD WINDSTAR ENGINE HAS STOPPED SEVERAL TIMES WHILE DRIVING AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS AND ALSO WHEN COASTING WHILE DRIVING DOWN HILLS. IT ALSO STOPS WHILE AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS. MECHANIC ADJUSTED THE IDLE SPEED AND REPLACED THE IDLE CONTROL. THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE. MY 1995 FORD WINDSTAR ENGINE HAS STOPPED SEVERAL TIMES WHILE DRIVING AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS AND ALSO WHEN COASTING WHILE DRIVING DOWN HILLS. IT ALSO STOPS WHILE AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS. MECHANIC ADJUSTED THE IDLE SPEED AND REPLACED THE IDLE CONTROL. THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE.
