DORMAN IS RECALLING 979 STEERING KNUCKLES, DORMAN P/NOS. 697-902 AND 697-903, SOLD UNDER DORMAN'S "OE SOLUTIONS<SUP>TM</SUP>" BRAND NAME, AND NAPA P/NOS. 7-8502 AND 7-8503 WHICH WERE SOLD FOR REPLACEMENT USE ON THE VARIOUS VEHICLES LISTED ABOVE. A POTENTIAL MATERIAL OR DESIGN DEFECT COULD RESULT IN THE STEERING KNUCKLE BREAKING IN THE HUB AREA.

Driving on a driveway (estimated speed 5-10 mph) when I noted that the driver side door didn't seem completely closed. I tugged on the door handle to shut it and instantaneously felt the driver-side side airbag deploy, scraping my left forearm, left ear, and rupturing the left eardrum. There had been no collision or accident involving the car or any other structure. The vehicle has not been in a prior accident, and has not had additional electric work performed to any of its systems since manufacturing. The vehicle is available for inspection, it has not been inspected yet by a manufacturer or dealer, and the airbag affected my safety by causing physical harm due to faulty deployment.

I was adding fuel to my car and noticed a strong fuel smell. I only traveled a few miles but my fuel gauge dropped from 3/4 to 1/4 full in only a few miles. When I got home I told my husband. He checked the vehicle and found that fuel was leaking from the inlet on the fuel tank. My husband searched the issue an found a recall for some 2003 and 2004 Chevrolet and other GM products listed as NHTSA Campaign # 07V349000 and NHTSA Action # EA07006. It does list the same vehicle I have a 2003 Chevy Venture van. The recall covers just certain months of production. From our research it seems that a broader recall in needed

THE BUTTONS FOR MY CONTROL DASH WHERE RADIO AND HEAT ADJUSTMENT ARE, THE PANEL,. GETS BLAZING HOT TO THE TOUCH. EVERYTIME WE DRIVE IT. IT'S OVERHEATING SO MUCH I AM CONCERNED IT WASN'T FIXED BY A RECALL PREVIOUSLY CLAIMED. THE BUTTONS DECALS HAVE MELTED OFF ON SOME BUTTONS. THIS HAPPENS WHEN THE CAR IS ON. I RECENTLY PURCHASED THIS VAN PRIVATELY IN ILLINOIS.

AFTER REFUELING, THE VEHICLE BEGAN LEAKING FUEL FROM THE TANK NEAR THE AREA WHERE THE FUEL INLET ENTERS THE TANK. THERE IS A SAFETY RECALL BULLETIN, 06230, AND THE VIN NUMBERS OF VEHICLES AFFECTED DOES INCLUDE MY VEHICLE. HOWEVER GM WILL NOT COVER THE COST TO REPAIR, CLAIMING MY VEHICLE IS NOT AFFECTED. OBVIOUSLY IT IS AFFECTED OR IT WOULD NOT BE LEAKING FUEL FROM THE EXACT SAME AREA COVERED BY THE RECALL! THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE STATING THE SAME EXPERIENCE. WHY WON'T GM COVER THE REPAIR EVEN WHEN THERE IS A RECALL? TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, GM NO LONGER MAKES THE REPLACEMENT TANK AND I CAN NOT FIND AN AFTERMARKET TANK EITHER.

MOVED CAR SEATS TODAY BECAUSE I NEEDED TO GET VAN READY TO TAKE ON THANKSGIVING TRIP. I STRAPPED MY DAUGHTER INTO THE SMART SEAT WHILE I WAS MOVING EVERYTHING ELSE AROUND IN THE VAN. AFTER I GOT DONE I WENT TO GET HER OUT OF THE SEAT AND COULDN'T GET THE CROTCH BUCKLE TO UNDO. I TRIED PUSHING EVERY WAY POSSIBLE. I CALLED MY HUSBAND AND HE CAME AND TRIED TO GET HER OUT. WE LOOSENED THE STRAPS AND COULDN'T GET HER OUT (DUE TO HER DISABILITY SHE HAS EXTREMELY TIGHT MUSCLES AND WE COULDN'T GET HER MANEUVERED AROUND ENOUGH TO PULL HER OUT. I COULDN'T GET THE SEAT UNINSTALLED BECAUSE IT IS LATCHED TO A BASE, THAT IS INSTALLED WITH A SEAT BELT, THAT HAS AN SNAP DOWN BELT GUIDE INSIDE IT. I TRIED TO UNINSTALL THE SEAT, TO GET TO THE "YOLK" THAT HOLDS THE HARNESS STRAPS- BUT COULDN'T GET TO IT. I CALLED GRACO BECAUSE I WAS NOT SURE WHAT TO DO. THEY TOLD ME TO CUT THE STRAPS ON THE SEAT, AND THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE THE SEAT. UNFORTUNATELY THIS LEAVES US WITHOUT A SEAT, SO I OPTED TO GO PURCHASE A NEW ONE AND THEY JUST REFUND ME FOR THE OLD ONE. LUCKILY I HAVE AN EXTRA SEAT THAT MY DAUGHTER CAN USE UNTIL I PURCHASE THE NEW SEAT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THROUGH THE REFLECTION OF ANOTHER VEHICLE WHICH HAD BEEN DRIVING EXTREMELY CLOSE, THAT BOTH OF HIS REAR TAIL LIGHTS FAILED TO ILLUMINATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE BOTH TAIL LIGHT BULBS WERE REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED WHICH REQUIRED THE REPLACEMENT OF THE TAIL LIGHT BULB CONTINUOUSLY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET VENTURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS WERE NOT FUNCTIONING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTICS WHERE THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THERE WAS CONDENSATION AND MOISTURE THROUGHOUT THE FRONT HEADLIGHTS AND THE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHT COVER WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED BUT ADVISED THAT THE FAILURE WOULD CONTINUE TO RECUR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.

I PURCHASED THE 2003 CHEVROLET VENTURE VAN NEW AND HAVE HAD CONTINUOUS PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKE/TAIL LIGHTS BURNING OUT. SPOKE WITH GM AND IF I RECALL CORRECTLY THE FIRST TIME THEY BULBS WERE REPLACED WAS IN JUNE 2004. SINCE THEN I HAVE REPLACED THE BULBS 2-4 TIMES PER YEAR TRYING DIFFERENT MANUFACTURERS AND TYPES. I HAVE SEARCHED FOR SOLUTIONS ON THE INTERNET AND TRIED REPLACING THE CIRCUIT BOARDS AND THIS STILL DOES NOT MITIGATE THE ISSUE. I BELIEVE THIS IS AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD FOR SEVERAL REASONS. 1) THE BULBS CAN WORK INTERMITTENTLY GIVING A FALSE SENSE OF REPAIR; 2) THE BULBS CAN FAIL WITHOUT WARNING; 3) THE TAIL LIGHTS CANNOT BE SEEN WHEN DRIVING IN THE SIDE VIEW MIRRORS; 4) THERE IS NO WARNING LIGHT TO INDICATE ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL THAT THE BULBS HAVE FAILED; AND 5) REPEATED REPLACEMENT OF BULBS AND/OR CIRCUIT BOARDS ARE COSTLY AND CANNOT BE EASILY ACCOMPLISHED BY THE ELDERLY OR HANDICAPPED DUE TO THE LOCATION AND STRENGTH NECESSARY TO DISASSEMBLE THE TAIL LIGHTS. AN ELDERLY PERSON OR ANY INDIVIDUAL MAY MAKE THE CHOICE TO FOREGO REPAIR DUE TO COST AND ENDANGER THEMSELVES IN THE MEANTIME. WE OWN A 2003 CHEVY VENTURE AND I HAVE REPLACED THE FRONT DRIVER SIGNAL BULB THREE (3) TIMES AND THE REAR BRAKE/TAIL LIGHTS FOUR (4) TIMES ALREADY. I JUST CHANGED BOTH BRAKELIGHT BULBS 03/19/12 AND YESTERDAY ANOTHER MOTORIST PULLED AROUND ME TO INFORM ME THAT MY BRAKELIGHTS ARE OUT.
