FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM Mar 20, 2026
The fuel system has failed. The car shut off in the Baltimore harbor tunnel twice completely stopping traffic and creating a very hazard situation. One of those two times the semi truck behind me had to slam its brakes. When the car shuts off you must come to a complete stop and turn the car completely off. After restarting the car is in limp mode with reduced power. The incident has happened about 6 other times. Every time it happens I have feared my safety, especially if there is no shoulder to coast the car in to park. Independent service center has replaced three sensors related to fuel pressure system which did not fix. The vehicle and component has not been inspected by manufacture, police, insurance representatives or others. The manufacture claims there are no recalls on the fuel system of the vehicle. The vehicle has a rebuilt title from a small accident because no parts were available during covid so the insurance wrote the car off. The car was inspected by the state of North Carolina and deemed safe for the road. There is no indication that the car is going to shut off. It just cuts power and shuts off. After restarting the car, it will show a check engine light on the cluster and a drivetrain error on the infotainment screen . The error code p0087 Fuel/rail system Pressure - too low bank 1

I am reporting an emissions-related malfunction that occurred a very short time after BMW performed the EGR cooler recall and updated the DDE software on my vehicle. Shortly after the recall work, the vehicle began showing DDE fault code 2BB300 – Particulate Sensor Measuring Electrode, Self-Diagnosis, which triggered the MIL. This issue did not exist at any point before the recall. Although my vehicle is now older than 10 years, the critical concern is that this emissions-related failure appeared soon after the recall intervention, indicating a potential recall-associated defect rather than normal age-related wear. The fault was diagnosed at BMW West Houston, where it was confirmed; however, I was told no warranty or goodwill support could be provided due to vehicle age, despite the timing suggesting a recall-related cause. BMW’s emissions warranty extension bulletin (NHTSA TSB ID: MC-10160282-9999) lists particulate sensor failures (2BB700–2BA200) as known issues. Many BMW diesel owners have reported similar particulate sensor faults shortly after the EGR cooler recall and related software changes, suggesting a broader pattern. If the EGR recall or subsequent software calibration is leading to particulate sensor failures and MIL activation, this may represent a post-recall emissions defect affecting compliance. I request that NHTSA evaluate whether the EGR recall may be contributing to widespread particulate sensor failures. Vehicle Information: – 2014 BMW Diesel – Fault Code: 2BB300 – Failure occurred a short time after the EGR cooler recall & software update – Diagnosed at: BMW West Houston Thank you for your attention.

I was driving to work when my engine started sputtering acting like it was about to turn off. I quickly pulled off to the side of the road and as soon as I did, the engine stalled and turned off. I'm lucky that I pulled off the road because if it turned off while on the road I could have caused an accident. The car is no longer able to turn on. I had to get it towed to my work where I had a mechanic look at it. They said they believe the high-pressure fuel pump failed. I researched this online and saw that there is an open NHTSA campaign for it (#21V586000). My car is a 2014 BMW 328D with the N47 engine. It seems that my car would fall under this recall but when I put in my VIN it says it does not have a match for it. How is it possible for my vehicle to be accepted into this recall.

Due to its diesel related scandals, BMW has agreed to extend its diesel emission related components' warranty to 10 years or 120k miles. My 2014 BMW 328d's nox sensor failed in 2022 and i submitted my repair bill for replacing the nox sensor to bmw recently. BMW denied my reimbursement claiming the warranty expired despite the documents i submitted was for a repair done in 2022 with credit card receipts and repair shop copy of work done.

Faulty fuel injectors , that are known to prematurely fail. The same injectors are covered by BMW for model years 2015-2018 Under NHTSA SIB 01 09 19. While driving our 2014 BMW 328d the engine misfired then stalled on the highway. This was a very dangerous and frightening scenario trying to push it off of the roadway while my wife and children were inside the car while highway traffic on the I-15 interstate rushes by. I was not able to restart, so we had it towed to our local BMW shop. Diagnosed as High Pressure Fuel Pump complete failure. Metallic debris throughout the entire fuel system, lines, tank filter, injectors, pumps. No check engine light or any prior warning. Many of the components have already been disassembled to determine the extent of damage, and all the components are currently with the vehicle, and available for inspection. The vehicle has been at the shop since the end of June. Some parts were initially ordered then all repairs put on hold while awaiting direction/ recall approval from BMW of North America. 5 months later we are being told this vin does not qualify for the safety recall. We can not afford the cost of the repairs and they will likely exceed the value of the car. We also need to remove it from storage at the shop it was towed to, and take it somewhere else while this is sorted out.

After a drive from Denver to Breckenridge on snowy roads the car was parked in an unplowed parking space. When the car was moved 1 hr later the car had no ABS--flashing on dash, no traction control--flashing on dash and steering was ineffective. Car was only drivable by backing into a space. 20 hrs later the car was to be moved again...again, everything flashed on dash...no ABS, no traction control, drive train failure and car just slid. Steering was totally ineffective. Car was pushed by people on both sides until dry pavement was reached. Car was restarted and I resumed driving on dry pavement back to Denver. Had car "read" by my mechanic and then again by a BMW certified mechanic. No codes were available! The speculation was that my wheel sensors froze. If my Xdrive can't be driven in snow, what's going on. There were two drivers involved in this and both of us reported a total lack of control of the vehicle.

While driving my 328 XDrive, I went to make a left turn and hear a loud bang like I ran over a boulder or large object. Lost almost all power to the wheels and had to cost the car into a gas station. After which I had the car towed to BMW and was determined to be a failed transfer case at 123k on the OD. This seems to be happening to the older BMWs with the old transfer case. BMW knows this as they have since upgraded the transfer case and no longer sell the old one. This should without question be a recall for any 328d XDrive from this era.

LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:DOORS:LATCH May 29, 2024
The driver side door lock mechanism failed completely while the driver was in the vehicle, making it impossible to open the driver side door or exit the vehicle normally. Neither the interior door handle, nor the central power lock/unlock control, nor the remote key fob, nor the physical key inserted into the door lock from the outside can unlock the door. The driver was forced to exit the vehicle by moving the driver seat to an extreme aft position, then climbing over the center console into the passenger seat, to exit via the passenger door. If the power seat adjustment had been inoperable, egress would have bee significantly more difficult. If the driver had been involved in a collision, or otherwise needed to exit the vehicle very quickly, they would have been severely hindered from doing so. Inability to operate the driver side door represents a safety hazard to the driver. No warning messages or lamps were present in the vehicle before or after the door lock mechanism failure. The driver side door remains inoperable after completely switching off the vehicle ignition and turning it back on.

There was a recall to replace EGR cooler on this car. Dealer replaced with same defective design EGR cooler. BMW is not putting any effort in redesigning EGR cooler and install that one in customer's cars. We are again risking our lives with new but defective design EGR cooler.

High pressure fuel pump failed while underway causing vehicle to immediately stall in traffic and lock in "Park" making it unable to move. Mechanic (Werner's European Auto) confirmed diagnosis of catastrophic failure of the pump. Part is available for inspection. This part for the gasoline version of the 2014 328 series car is subject to a recall notice but for some reason the notice does not apply to the diesel version of this model. Repair cost is estimated at $11,000 to replace entire fuel system due to metal particles released when the pump broke

Subject: Urgent Complaint Regarding Potential Safety Hazard in 2014 BMW 328D Fuel Injector I am writing to report a serious safety concern regarding my 2014 BMW 328D. On about August of 2023, while operating my vehicle, I experienced a sudden and alarming issue that poses a significant risk to both myself and other motorists. As I came to a routine stop, smoke began pouring out from under the hood of the vehicle, obscuring my vision through the windshield. Simultaneously, a strong odor of diesel permeated the interior of the passenger compartment. Concerned for my safety, I immediately investigated and discovered that the fuel injector area was drenched with diesel fuel. Upon further inspection by a qualified mechanic, it was determined that a crack had developed in the fuel injector, causing the leak. This defect not only poses a serious fire hazard but also exposes occupants to toxic diesel fumes, creating an immediate and grave risk to safety. My concern is exacerbated by the fact that this incident appears to be part of a larger pattern of failures in BMW diesel automobiles. I have conducted research and found numerous recalls related to faulty fuel injectors in various BMW models over different years. However, to my astonishment, the 2014 BMW 328D, including mine, has not been included in any such recall despite the clear evidence of a recurring issue with fuel injectors. Given the severity of the situation and the potential danger it poses to myself and others on the road, I urge the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to thoroughly investigate this matter. It is imperative that immediate action be taken to address this safety hazard, including the consideration of a recall for the affected vehicles. I kindly request a prompt response regarding the steps being taken to address this issue and ensure the safety of all BMW 328D owners.

stall/loss of power while entering highway on ramp. Engine died and would not restart. After inspecting car found the gas tank to be filled with metal shavings which is indicative of a failed high pressure fuel pump. My year make and model vehicle has a recall on the HPFP for the same reason but my VIN was supposedly not affected.

Have been waiting since March to get Safety Recall No. 21V-907:EGR Cooler completed. BMW of Henderson is the dealership. I called BMW customer relations and they told me each dealer is independently owned and they can’t do anything for me. This dealership is notorious for poor service.

While driving on the freeway at a high rate of speed in Pensacola, FL, my 2014 BMW 328d broke down. After several attempts to restart, the car was started in "limp mode" and we took it to a certified independent BMW mechanic, but could only drive at about 20mph in traffic with hazard lights flashing. Multiple error codes / mechanic inspection diagnosed a malfunction of the exhaust system overheating, which was melting the intake manifold. We towed the car the BMW dealership in Fort Walton Beach, FL. The service technician confirmed the problem in writing, "The tech did find the intake melted." Also, the vehicle had been losing coolant for several weeks, but the coolant was not dripping onto the ground, indicating a leak within the system. Here is where my problems begin. There are several recalls and an extended warranty that would would fix the issue, as the independent mechanic told me. They are: 1) Recall Campaign 18V-755: Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Cooler Inspection; 2) Recall 21V-907: Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Cooler N57T High Temperature; 3) SIB 01 05 20: N47T/N57T EGR Cooler Ltd Wty Extension to 10 years without mileage limit. My car was built to US spec, and sold via U.S. Military sales in Germany (I'm Active Duty USAF). I was relocated to Florida, and brought the car with me. When this happened, I was told to register my car with BMW North America to get into their warranty validation system, and I did so. However, my car does not show up as needing any recalls or warranty work, likely because it was sold in Europe. As such, the dealer wants me to pay in excess of $3,000 to fix the problem. Both an independent mechanic and dealer technician have identified the previously-known safety problems as the cause of my car's breakdown on the freeway. I am in desperate need of help to get this fixed, as I've had to rent a car for weeks, and multiple calls to BMW North America and dealership visits have produced zero progress.

DEF SCR Active Tank Fluid Level sensor fails. BMW requires entire replacement of the Active Tank for $1200 parts + $1500 for labor. This is a ridiculous repair since Volkswagen sells a repair kit for the Active Tank fluid sensor for just ~$300 in their diesel. Given the high failure rates of the Active Tank fluid sensor present throughout BMW diesel line-up in the USA, BMW should instead provide a repair kit to avoid such an expensive repair. The 335d and X5d had such high failure rates of the active tanks, that the extended warranties were provided to owners 120K/10years.

I recently got the EGR cooler replaced as part of the recall campaign safety issue, after my repair, a very strong smell of fuel and exhaust was coming into my car cabin, when I reported to BMW they said it should burn off - that it wasn’t an issue. I took it a master technician to diagnose and inspect my car and he found that the turbo waster gate was leaking caused by all of the buildup of carbon and soot from a faulty EGR cooler. I brought this up to the dealership, and they said unfortunately this problem is not covered. I’m escalating this issue because this is a majority safety and health risk, and BMW is not taking responsibility to fix the problem.

From purchasing this vehicle form Autohaus of Orlando, there was no such mention of this open safety recall at all. In fact, I believe the Check Engine Light had been tampered with, as it was not on, but immediately came on a couple days later. On the CARFAX, it is listed as a Manufacturer Safety Recall on 11/19/2021: "- Recall #21V-907:404 - EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION (EGR) COOLER - Status: Remedy Not Available - Need more information about this recall? Find an authorized BMW dealer, email [email protected], or call 1-800- 525-7417" 200 miles from the car dealership, the car broke down as it was rapidly leaking engine coolant, it was inoperable and ran very hot, creating the potential cause of a fire. I had to take it to the nearest BMW dealership, which was BMW of Albany in Albany, GA. They fixed the coolant leak hose, which appears to be related to the open recall, and made note of the open recall. But did nothing to fix it. It was one day after the service from their shop where the check engine light came on, and I asked them about it, and Caroline from BMW Albany said: "Spoke to the technician, it says it is probably related to the recall for your vehicle that there isn't a fix for (the open recall you and I had discussed on the vehicle)- he says you could clear the code but it would probably just come back on with time. He says its also difficult to tell from that fault code --Caroline Eva BMW of Albany" I asked "what should I do about it" and got no response back. Message even says "read" On 8/31/2022, I took it into Fields BMW in Daytona Beach, FL for a separate service, and they did not fix this issue either. On NHTSA.gov, it states the following: "If the manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy this safety recall for your vehicle in a timely manner, please contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at: 1-888-327-4236 or TTY: 1-800-424-9153 or file an online complaint with NHTSA." There has been no remedy in over a year and a half.
