Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2017-2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia and 2018-2019 Alfa Romeo Stelvio vehicles. The fuel pump may fail, which can result in a loss of fuel flow and loss of drive power.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the fuel delivery module, free of charge. Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed October 7, 2025. Twice now, my 2019 Giulia, which only has 27,100 miles, has flashed a check engine light and a "flash/lighting" symbol while driving at highway speeds. When this happened, the vehicle's throttle became unresponsive. This resulted in a sudden power loss--the accelerator would not respond to input, which creates a huge safety issue. I had it towed as I did not want to cause an accident. My trusted mechanic ran the diagnostic code (P008a) which indicated low pressure from the fuel pump. This is addressed in recall numbers 93C (Manufacturer) and 25V-586 (NHTSA). However, NHTSA does not show any active recalls for my vehicle VIN. My local dealership indicated this is because Alfa Romeo has not distributed the correct parts to the dealerships. Alfa Romeo customer service said this is incorrect. I am stuck with an unsafe and unreliable vehicle due to the precise recall item that Alfa Romeo says does not apply to my vehicle.

My car would not accelerate. “Electronic Throttle Warning” and my “auto start stop” lights popped up on dashboard. Dealer claimed it was something else, had me pay and the problem is still occurring. Car stopped suddenly and won’t start ships I was at traffic light on a county road
I was in an accident on 7/25/2024, my vehicle was completely stopped and pulled over. The impact occurred when another vehicle, traveling at around 35 mph or less (the posted speed limit), struck my vehicle with significant force, the rear suspension of my structural frame of my vehicle was severely damaged. Given the intensity of the collision and the resulting damage, I’m concerned that none of my airbags did not deploy, despite the damage being substantial. In light of this information and my vehicle being totaled loss, I have a few additional follow-up questions: 1. Since my vehicle was stationary at the time of impact and the other vehicle was moving at a considerable speed, could the lack of deceleration on my part have influenced the airbag system’s response? How does the system account for impacts where the struck vehicle is at a complete stop? 2. You mentioned that neither the engine compartment nor the structural frame rails were compromised, yet the repair estimate indicates severe damage to the frame. Could there be a discrepancy between the vehicle photos and the actual damage assessed later? 3. Given the nature of the impact and the resulting damage, is it possible that certain sensors related to airbag deployment could have malfunctioned or were unable to accurately measure the severity of the crash? 4. The airbags are designed to deploy based on the severity of a frontal crash and longitudinal deceleration. Can clarification be provided on how side or angular impacts are accounted for in the vehicle’s safety system? Is there any supplemental protection, such as side airbags, that would activate in those types of collisions? 5. Given that the accident involved a side impact, could there be factors related to side-impact protection that should have activated other safety features? 6. Are there additional sensors or mechanisms that monitor the severity of non-frontal impacts?

While driving on the highway I got an error alert "Service Electronic Throttle" and my gas pedal stopped working almost immediately. I was fortunate enough to coast to the next exit and pull off in the shoulder. The car would not start. I unplugged the battery and waited 5 minutes. After reconnecting the battery, I was able to drive 4 miles home, and the next day I drove 7 miles to the Alfa dealer. Since I reset the battery in order to start the car, they told me there were no codes visible and they sent me home with the car. I drove for 70 miles until the same issue happened. This time I was on a road with no shoulder but was able to pull off into a parking lot. I tried to reset the battery again to make it home but I was only able to make it about 100 yards down the road and I pulled off into a construction driveway. I reset the battery once last time to make it another 100 yards down the road until I coasted into a parking lot. Each time the gas pedal completely stopped responding and I was left to cruise as far as I could. If the car turns off and won't start again you are not able to put it into neutral and move it to a safe spot. When I brought it to the dealer the second time they gave me an error code of "P008A-00" and replaced the fuel pump. They also told me I should try to always use the same gas station and never drive below a quarter tank of gas. There is a service bulletin for this issue in 2017-2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia's but I have not seen anything yet for 2019. I was very luck in all 4 instances of the gas pedal failing but if it went out while trying to pull across multiple lanes of traffic I could have easily been hit. You can also only make it as far as the car will coast so I could have been stranded in the middle lane on the highway if there was heavier traffic.

CAR HAD SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER. LATER DIAGNOSED AS FUEL PUMP AND FUEL PUMP MODULE ISSUE.
I had a "Service Electronic Throttle Control" light come on and my car went into limp mode. I called the dealer and they said to drive my car to the dealer to get it checked out. I confirmed with the dealer's service manager that it was safe to drive on the freeway in the limp mode. On my way there, my engine completely died - it went down to 25 mph on the freeway before it recovered a bit so that I could get off the freeway. Shortly after I got off the freeway, it died completely. The dealership told me its a known issued that these 2018/2019 Alfa Romeo's will suffer from oil pump failure, leading to sudden engine failure. Based on conversations I've seen on Facebook Alfa Romeo pages, many people have had these same issues with sudden engine failures on low mileage engines caused by oil pump failures. I thank God my car didn't completely die in the middle of the freeway - I could have easily been killed.

Due to a faulty starter relay, my Alfa Romeo Giulia would intermittently not start or restart. The dashboard illuminated properly but the starter did not engage and the engine did not attempt to crank. Afterwards, a warning lamp would sometimes appear saying "auto start/stop unavailable". This became a safety hazard when the auto start/stop feature shut the engine down at a stop light and the car would not restart when the light turned green. In my case, the light turned green and other cars were approaching the intersection and I could not move out of the way. The problem occurred multiple times on initial startup and while driving in a 3 week period before it the faulty relay was replaced under warranty by my local dealer. The car's ECU recorded P26E4-OO for start stop relay and the dealer had seen the issue before. The part has been upgraded and should proactively be recalled.
The contact owns a 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia. The contact stated while operating the vehicle, the braking system malfunctioned while depressing the brake pedal and the vehicle would not immediately stop, causing an extended braking distance. On occasion, while depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle failed to stop. The parking brakes were activated to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and the brake pads and rotors were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The approximate failure mileage was 9,000. The Vin was not available

WENT TO START COLD CAR IN MORNING, THE ENGINE WOULD NOT CATCH. TRIED FOR A SECOND TIME AND AGAIN, STARTER TURNED OVER FOR 10-15 SECS THEN STOPPED. THINKING IT MAY BE THE BATTERY I EXITED THE CAR TO GET THE JUMP STARTER - AND COULD SMELL GASOLINE. I COULD SEE A GROWING PUDDLE OF GASOLINE ON THE DRIVEWAY UNDER THE FRONT WHEELS AND WHEN I LIFTED THE HOOD THE ENTIRE TOP OF THE ENGINE WAS WET WITH GASOLINE. ALFA DEALERSHIP HAVE DETERMINED IT IS THE EXACT SAME FUEL LINE THAT SPLIT ON THIS SAME VEHICLE IN AUG 2020. SEE NHTSA CASE# 11353843 FOR THE AUGUST INCIDENT. ALFA DEALERSHIP TECH ALSO NOTED THIS IS NOT THE ONLY SPLIT FUEL LINE HE HAS REPLACED WITH EXACT SAME PART NUMBER: 68364747AA. ONCE AGAIN I AM INCREDIBLY LUCKY AND GRATEFUL THAT THIS FUEL LINE SPLIT, LIKE THE FIRST, DID NOT HAPPEN OVER A HOT ENGINE.

(VEHICLE IS 2019 WITH 7404 MILES RECORDED ON DATE OF INCIDENT). MORNING OF 18TH AUG 2020. THE CAR SAT OVERNIGHT SO WAS 'COLD' WHEN I STARTED IT. I IMMEDIATELY SELECTED REVERSE AND BEGAN BACKING UP (EXACT SPEED UNKNOWN, BUT 'SLOW'). APPROX 10 SECS AFTER STARTING THE ENGINE THE VERY STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE ENTERED THE COCKPIT - I IMMEDIATELY SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. EXITING THE VEHICLE I COULD SEE A TRAIL OF FLUID 10 FT LONG ON THE CONCRETE DRIVEWAY AND THE SCENT IDENTIFIED IT AS GASOLINE. I LIFTED THE HOOD & GASOLINE WAS ALL OVER THE TOP OF THE ENGINE AND DRIPPING DOWN OFF THE UNDERSIDE OF THE HOOD. LOOKING CLOSER I COULD SEE POOLS OF GAS HAD COLLECTED ANYWHERE THERE WAS A DEPRESSION IN WHICH LIQUID COULD COLLECT ON & AROUND THE ENGINE. SEVERAL LITERS OF GASOLINE HAD BEEN EJECTED OVER THE ENGINE. CAR WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST ALFA SERVICE DEALERSHIP (GOLLING, BLOOMFIELD HILLS). THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED A BROKEN/SPLIT FUEL HOSE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE ENGINE UNDER WARRANTY. THEY VERBALLY TOLD ME THE PART WAS SENT TO ALFA CORPORATE AND I SHOULD CONTACT THEM TO FOLLOW THE INVESTIGATION. I CONTACTED ALFA CORPORATE AND THROUGH EMAIL EXCHANGES, DISCOVERED THAT ALFA CORPORATE WILL NOT BE INVESTIGATING THIS SAFETY ISSUE AT ALL. I ATTACH ALL THE EMAIL CORRESPONDENCE BELOW. MY VERY SERIOUS CONCERN IS THAT THE DEALERSHIP VERBALLY SAID THEY HAD NO IDEA HOW THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED - "MAYBE A WEAK SPOT" - BUT ALFA CORPORATE WOULD INVESTIGATE. AT THAT POINT I WAS SATISFIED. THEN SEVERAL DAYS LATER ALFA CORPORATE INFORMED ME THAT THE DEALERSHIP GUESS OF "MAYBE A WEAK SPOT" WOULD BE THE OFFICIAL CONCLUSION AND END OF THE INVESTIGATION. I MENTION IT SEVERAL TIMES IN MY (ATTACHED) EMAILS BUT IT IS OBVIOUS THAT I AVOIDED BEING IN A MOVING FIREBALL BY ONLY MINUTES AND MAYBE LUCK. THE TPMS WARNING LIGHT THEN BECAME ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT TIRE WAS REPLACED. AFTER PICKING UP THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT'S HUSBAND HAD DRIVEN LESS THAN 50 MILES BEFORE A BLOWOUT TO THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR TIRE. THE CONTACT'S HUSBAND INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND BECAME AWARE THAT THE TIRES SHOWED EXTREME WEAR TO THE SIDEWALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO ALFA ROMEO OF WILMINGTON PIKE (99 WILMINGTON PIKE A, CHADDS FORD, PA 19317) WHERE THE DEALER ACKNOWLEDGED AN ALIGNMENT ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE OWNER WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY TIRE FAILURES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED.
