An employee was lifting an air conditioning unit off a flatbed truck with a forklift. As the employee was placing a piece of plywood underneath the unit to give it some height so that the forks of the forklift could reach, the unit slipped and caught his right thumb, resulting in a partial amputation of the distal tip of the finger including the fingernail.
