Incident Narrative

An employee was preparing to connect drilling pipe when the elevator came open causing the 30 foot by 4.5-inch drilling pipe to fall onto the employee. The employee was struck on the shoulder, ribs, and back area, and sustained a punctured lung. The employee was hospitalized.
