Incident Narrative

An employee was opening a valve when the hot caustic (main component: sodium hydroxide) from an adjacent valve that was open sprayed him. The piping was shut down for maintenance and the injured employee was restoring it to service prior to the incident. The employee sustained a second degree burn on 2% of the right leg surface. The employee was hospitalized.
