Incident Narrative

An employee was part of a rig floor crew that was picking up 2-and-3/8-inch drill pipe to make a connection with a power swivel. The employee grabbed the pipe above the elevators. At that point, 1/4-inch sling cables wrapped around the pipe and the employee's fingers, partially amputating the right middle finger and fracturing the right ring finger.
