Incident Narrative

An employee was using a band saw to cut angle iron. One of the five pieces of angle iron that was being cut was shorter than the others and was not secured by the clamp. When the band saw was lowered to make the cut, the unsecured angle iron was pulled into the backstop, or guide, and the employee's left thumb was caught between the angle iron and the backstop resulting in amputation.
