Incident Narrative

An employee was cutting 2x6 lumber used to frame the exterior of a building. He had the lumber stacked on saw horses and was using a cordless saw to trim it. After he completed the cut, a small piece of the wood became lodged inside the saw guard, causing the guard to become stuck in an open position. Not knowing that the guide was stuck, he set the saw down by grabbing it with his left hand. With the combination of the guide being stuck and the blade still in motion, the moving saw blade made contact with and amputated his left middle finger.
