Incident Narrative
An employee was oiling the conveyor chains at the end of the main saw roll-case (conveyor) near the lumber backstop. When lumber from the main saw reaches the end of the roll-case conveyor near the backstop, the lumber trips a lever arm limit switch, activating a lumber sweep that pushes the lumber onto a perpendicular conveyor. The employee was standing near the sweep when he tripped the limit switch causing the sweep to activate. The employee was standing in the path of the sweep. When the sweep activated, it struck his left foot, crushing the 1st joint of his big toe. The joint was later amputated by a physician.
