WINNEBAGO IS RECALLING CERTAIN RECREATIONAL VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 1200-SERIES NORCOLD REFRIGERATORS. THE POPULATION OF REFRIGERATORS BEING ADDRESSED CONTAINS EITHER A SENSING ALGORITHM OR THERMAL SWITCH TO SHUT OFF POWER TO THE REFRIGERATOR WHEN HIGH TEMPERATURES ARE DETECTED IN ORDER TO PREVENT A POTENTIAL FIRE. THE RESPONSE TIMES OF THE SENSOR ALGORITHM AND THERMAL SWITCH DEVICES TO STOP POWER ARE NOT SUFFICIENT.
Remedy: WINNEBAGO IS WORKING WITH NORCOLD TO IDENTIFY AND NOTIFY ANY AFFECTED OWNERS. OWNERS WILL BE INSTRUCTED TO CONTACT NORCOLD DEALERS TO RECEIVE THE REMEDY FREE OF CHARGE. WINNEBAGO IS RECALLING 31 MY 2006-2008 ITASCA CAMBRIA, HORIZON, WINNEBAGO ACCESS, ADVENTURER, JOURNEY, MINNIE WINNIE, SIGNTSEER, TOUR, VECTRA, AND VOYAGE MOTOR HOMES EQUIPPED WITH RICON PLATFORM STYLE WHEELCHAIR LIFTS. THESE LIFTS FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 403, "PLATFORM LIFT SYSTEMS FOR MOTOR VEHICLES." THE ANTI-STOW INTERLOCK MAY NOT DETECT THE PRESENCE OF A WHEELCHAIR OR MOBILITY AID USER. THE PRESSURE SENSING SWITCH THAT DETECTS THE PRESENCE OF WEIGHT ON THE PLATFORM WAS NOT ADJUSTED TO THE NECESSARY SENSITIVITY LEVEL. THE LIFT COULD STOW EVEN THOUGH SOMEONE OR SOMETHING IS STILL ON THE LIFT.
Remedy: WINNEBAGO IS WORKING WITH RICON TO CORRECT THE WHEELCHAIR LIFTS (PLEASE SEE 07E097). OWNERS MAY CONTACT RICON AT 1-800-322-2884 OR WINNEBAGO AT 1-641-585-3535.

WINNEBAGO IS RECALLING 1,699 MY 2005-2009 WINNEBAGO JOURNEY, TOUR AND ITASCA MERIDIAN AND ELLIPSE MOTOR HOMES BUILT ON THE FREIGHTLINER XC CHASSIS. THE CHASSIS CONTAINS STEERING FILTERS THAT CAN PLUG DUE TO FAILURE OF THE SCREEN ADHESION TO THE FILTER HOUSING CAUSING A RISE IN RETURN LINE PRESSURE POTENTIALLY LEADING TO A HOSE SEPARATION FROM THE FILTER OR STEERING GEAR FITTING RESULTING IN A SUDDEN LOSS OF STEERING FLUID AND POWER ASSIST.
Remedy: FREIGHTLINER IS CONDUCTING THIS RECALL AND WILL REPLACE THE AFFECTED FILTERS WITH A LARGER FILTER (PLEASE SEE 07V570). OWNERS MAY CONTACT FREIGHTLINER AT 1-800-547-0712 OR WINNEBAGO AT 1-641-585-3535.

WINNEBAGO IS RECALLING 306 MY 2007-2008 JOURNEY, DESTINATION, TOUR AND ITASCA MERIDIAN, LATITUDE, AND ELLIPSE MOTOR HOMES BUILT ON FREIGHTLINER CHASSIS. THE FASTENERS THAT ATTACH THE STEERING ARM OR TIE ROD ARMS TO THE SPINDLE MAY BE OVER OR UNDER-TIGHTENED.

A OIL LEAK THAT LOOKS LIKE HYDRAULIC FLUID IS COMING DOWN FROM THE BEDROOM SLIDE-OUT IS SATIATING WITH OIL INTO ALMOST ALL THE UTILITY COMPARTMENT WHERE THE 50-AMPS CONNECTION ELECTRICAL POWER CORD IS AND THE CORD IS CONNECTED TO OTHER ELECTRICAL WIRES AND THE INVERTER CHARGER UNIT IS LOCATED AND SOME ELECTRICAL FUSES ARE ALSO. THAT COMPARTMENT GETS HOT. ESPECIALLY OIL THAT CAN START A FIRE. IT NEEDS TO BE FIX. THE OIL IS COMING DOWN TO THE ELECTRICAL PARTS.THIS DEFECT CAN CAUSE A FIRE. THE PROBLEM IS IN THE RV WINNEBAGO, JOURNEY. IT HAS A DEFECT WHICH COULD CAUSE INJURY OR DEATH. THE SAFETY DEFECT EXIST IN ONE OF THE COMPARTMENT WHERE SOME OF THE ELECTRICAL WIRES ARE. IT IS NOT TIGHT IMPERMEABLE FOR LEAKS. MY RV WINNEBAGO, JOURNEY HAS A HYDRAULIC LEAK THAT IS COMING DOWN FROM BEDROOM SLIDE-OUT AND IS ENTERING IN THE UTILITY COMPARTMENT AND SATIATING IT WITH OIL. WHERE THE 50-AMPS CONNECTING POWER CORD THAT IS CONNECTED TO OTHER ELECTRICAL WIRES AND IN SAME COMPARTMENT IS THE INVERTER CHARGER UNIT THAT IS IN THE SAME COMPARTMENT WHERE THE LEAK IS COMING DOWN. THERE ALSO ARE ELECTRICAL FUSES WHERE THE FLUID IS COMING DOWN. THIS IS A DEFECT BECAUSE THIS CAN CAUSE A FIRE. BY NOT HAVING A TIGHT IMPERMEABLE LEAK-PROOF COMPARTMENT FOR ELECTRICAL WIRES. IN 2010 THE FRONT HOOD, REAR ENGINE ACCESS DOOR AND PART OF THE REAR BUMPER PANEL WERE FOUND TO BE LOOSE FROM THE METAL FRAMES THAT THEY ARE MOUNTED ON. THESE WERE REATTACHED AT WINNEBAGO'S FACTORY SERVICE CENTER IN FOREST CITY, IOWA. IN 2012 THE FRONT HOOD WAS AGAIN FOUND LOOSE FROM THE FRAME AND I REPAIRED IT. ON AUG. 28, 2013, MILEAGE 79,500, WHEN WE STOPPED FOR THE NIGHT I FOUND THAT 7 OF THE 8 ATTACHED POINTS FOR THE REAR BUMPER PANEL HAD COME DETACHED FROM THE BODY OF THE COACH AND THE LEFT SIDE WAS SWINGING FREE ABOUT 10 INCHES FROM THE COACH. THE BUMPER PANEL WAS ONLY STILL ON THE COACH BECAUSE MY BIKE RACK KEPT IT FROM SWINGING FURTHER OUT. CLOSER CHECKING REVEALED THAT THE REAR ENGINE ACCESS DOOR AND SEVERAL LOWER SIDE BODY PANELS WERE COMING LOOSE FROM THEIR FRAMES. ALL OF THE ABOVE ATTACH POINTS ARE CONNECTED BY SOME TYPE OF EPOXY. THE 2013 PROBLEMS WERE REPAIRED AT WINNEBAGO FACTORY IN SEPT. 2013. THEY REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THESE DETACHED PANELS WERE A COMMON PROBLEM. WHILE IN THE FOREST CITY AREA IN SEPT. 2013 I SAW 3 OTHER 2004 TO 2007 JOURNEYS WITH THE SAME LOOSE PANELS. MY CONCERN IS THAT ONE OF THESE 8.5 FT. BY 20 INCH BUMPER PANELS IS GOING TO COME OFF AND LAND ON ANOTHER VEHICLE'S WINDSHIELD. *TR

THE REFRIGERATOR WAS LOCATED IN THE REAR CENTER OF THE VEHICLE. A DEALER WAS CONTACTED WHO ADVISED THAT THE REFRIGERATOR WAS NOT UNDER RECALL AND OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000. UPDATED 07/10/12*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE REFRIGERATOR WAS HOT, SINCE THE FIRST DAY OF PURCHASE. ON SEPTEMBER 16, 2006 THE REFRIGERATOR COMPLETELY STOPPED WORKING. THE DEALERSHIP REPAIRED IT, BUT IT NEVER FUNCTIONED PROPERLY. THE REFRIGERATOR STOPPED WORKING AGAIN FOR THE SECOND TIME. THE CONSUMER OBTAINED THE PARTS AND WAS ABLE TO FIX IT, BUT THE EXTERIOR WAS STILL TOO HOT. ABOUT A WEEK LATER, THE CONSUMER PULLED THE REFRIGERATOR OUT AND DISCOVERED THAT BOTH COOLING FANS WERE NOT WORKING PROPERLY AND PART OF THE THERMAL INSULATION WAS MISSING. NORCOLD DIDN'T WANT TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE ISSUE, UNTIL WINNEBAGO BECAME INVOLVED. AFTER WINNEBAGO BECAME INVOLVED, NORCOLD REPLACED THE FANS AND SENT ADDITIONAL INSULATION. UPDATE 07/11/12. *JB THE CONSUMERS LAWYER WROTE IN ON BEHALF OF THE CONSUMER. UNDER THE RECALL, THE COOLING UNIT WAS RETROFITTED WITH A THERMAL SWITCH KIT THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO PROTECT THE COOLING UNIT FROM LEAKING. UNFORTUNATELY, THE REPAIR WAS INEFFECTIVE AS THE UNIT CONTINUED TO LEAK REFRIGERANT. UPDATED 08/09/12
