Volvo Cars USA, LLC (Volvo Car) is recalling certain 2001-2007 V70 and XC70 vehicles. The driver's air bag inflator may explode during deployment, due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the driver's air bag, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 14, 2021. Owners may contact Volvo Car customer service at 1-888-458-1552. Volvo Car's number for this recall is R10136.

Remedy: VOLVO ADVISES OWNERS TO PLEASE STOP USING THE GARMIN PORTABLE GPS DEVICE IMMEDIATELY, AND VISIT THE GARMIN WEBSITE TO DETERMINE IF THEIR UNIT IS AFFECTED. I have recevievide from Volvo called the number and said they cannot say it was free.I called the number 1 800 458 1552 said could promise I had to talk to the manager at the dealer. I asked them if found other problems with steering that I would have to pay if they tear into steering comlun. You guys need to fix this now. I want to make sure Im cover here . EWhat am suppose to do if they break my steering down and ask me to pay for other problmems with the car it doesnot state that on the recall letter. What kind of airbag do they put in to the car I ant to its preminum airbags that are put in high in vehicles here. I want to know if I get protected documentation from this recall. Also do I get the old airbag back so i can seek legal consel as well. It just says free it should state that im protected from labor and parts costs as well.

I WAS AT OUR AUTOMOTIVE SHOP AND HAD TO GIVE A CUSTOMER A RIDE TO WORK. I HAD THE SEAT WARMERS ON BECAUSE IT WAS COLD OUTSIDE. ABOUT A MINUTE INTO THE DRIVE, I FEEL A BURNING SENSATION ON MY LEFT OUTER THIGH. I THOUGHT NOTHING OF IT. THE BURNING SENSATION GOT WORSE, I STATED, "SOMETHING'S BURNING ME!" THE CUSTOMER STATES SHE SMELLS SOMETHING BURNING, LIKE WIRES. I PULL OVER, HOP OUT OF THE CAR TO NOTICE A BURN HOLE IN MY SEAT. LUCKILY, I DID NOT GET SEVERELY BURNT, HOWEVER, MY THIGH WAS SORE FOR ABOUT 4 HOURS. AFTER THIS HAPPENED, I WENT ONLINE TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE SEAT. THERE WAS NOT. AFTER GOOGLING THIS SITUATION, I FOUND THAT MY 04 VOLVO V70 WASN'T THE ONLY VEHICLE THAT HAS HAD THIS ISSUE. MANY, MANY PEOPLE WITH THE SAME YEAR, MAKE, AND MODEL HAVE HAD THIS SAME ISSUE.

THE RADIATOR FAN RAN CONSISTENTLY ALTHOUGH I WAS DRIVING IN THE WINTER COMING BACK FROM LAKE TAHOE. WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY A SMELL OF BURNED RUBBER STARTED TO SPREAD INSIDE THE CAR SO I IMMEDIATELY SLOWED DOWN AND PARKED IT ON THE EMERGENCY LANE. AFTER OPENING THE HOOD, A FIRE CAME OUT. THE ENTIRE FAN MELTED AS A RESULT OF OVERHEATED DUE TO IT RUNNING NONSTOP.
AFTER INVESTIGATION, I DISCOVERED THAT USED VEHICLE JUST PURCHASED (2004 VOLVO V70) HAD A BAD REM MODULE; RENDERING FUEL GAUGE, REAR DOOR LOCKS, FUEL DOOR LATCH, AND HATCHBACK LOCK INOPERATIVE. THE REAR HATCHBACK HAS NO MANUAL METHOD TO LOCK IT; MAKING VEHICLE UNSECURABLE. INVESTIGATION ONLINE INDICATES THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE. DEALER WANTS AROUND $200 TO UPDATE SOFTWARE TO FIX PROBLEMS. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE, SINCE AT LEAST TWO CRITICAL ITEMS (HATCHBACK AND FUEL DOOR LATCHES) DEPEND ON FUNCTIONING REM TO SECURE THEM. I BELIEVE THESE ITEMS SHOULD BE COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURER REGARDLESS OF AGE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 VOLVO V70. WHILE PARKED, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE TECHNICIAN RECOMMENDED UPDATING THE SOFTWARE. THE SOFTWARE WAS UPDATED HOWEVER AFTERWARD, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. ADDITIONALLY, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE CONTROL ELECTRONICS MODULE WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE CONTACT INFORMED THE DEALER THAT THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07V226000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) THAT COULD HAVE BEEN RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE TECHNICIAN THEN REPLACED THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR. THE FAILURE WAS REMEDIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000. ..UPDATED 11/29/12 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED DURING THE LATTER PART OF 2011, THE "CHECK ENGINE' LIGHT CAME ON AND WOULD GO OFF INTERMITTENTLY. PULLED INTO A PARKING SPOT ON THE STREET, PUT THE CAR IN PARK, BUT WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE KEY TO TURN THE CAR OFF. IT TOOK ME ALMOST 20 MINUTES OF JIGGLING THE KEY AROUND AND SPRAYING WD40 INTO THE IGNITION CYLINDER BEFORE BEING ABLE TO VERY SLOWLY GET THE KEY TO TURN ENOUGH TO TURN THE CAR OFF. I AM NOT A WEAK PERSON AND WAS HONESTLY AFRAID THAT THE AMOUNT OF PRESSURE I WAS APPLYING WAS GOING TO CAUSE THE KEY TO BREAK OFF IN THE IGNITION. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE CAR TO THE NEAREST VOLVO DEALER (CHERRY HILL, NJ) AND SINCE THIS HAPPENED ON A SUNDAY MORNING, I HAD TO LEAVE THE KEYS WITH AN EXPLANATION OF THE PROBLEM ON A DROPBOX FORM. WHEN I CALLED THE SERVICE DEPT TODAY, THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO CUSTOM ORDER A REPLACEMENT PART FROM SWEDEN AND THAT IT COULD BE A WEEK BEFORE MY CAR IS REPAIRED. THE SERVICE PERSON SAID THAT THIS SOMETIMES HAPPENS WHEN PEOPLE ATTACH A LARGE AMOUNT OF KEYS TO THEIR CAR KEY AND IT CAUSES STRESS ON THE IGNITION CYLINDER. I HAVE NEVER, EVER DONE THAT. I ALWAYS KEEP MY CAR AND HOUSE KEYS SEPARATE FOR SAFETY PURPOSES, SO THERE IS NO REASON THIS SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED. AFTER LOOKING FOR MORE INFO ON THE INTERNET, IT APPEARS AS THOUGH THIS HAPPENS ON A FAIRLY REGULAR BASIS WITH OTHER OWNERS. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS CAR AND AM RELIGIOUS ABOUT KEEPING IT IN GOOD RUNNING ORDER WITH ROUTINE, SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. OUR 2004 VOLVO V70 ENGINE CUT OFF WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. AT THE TIME, WE WERE TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MILES PER HOUR. LUCKILY THERE WAS A SIDE ROAD NEARBY SO WE WERE ABLE TO COAST, STOP, AND RESTART THE CAR SAFELY. SINCE THAT DAY, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS BEEN COMING ON AND THEN GOING OFF AND THE ENGINE HAS SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING ON SEVERAL OTHER OCCASSIONS. WE TOOK THE CAR TO VOLVO AND THEY CLAIMED THERE WERE NOT ANY RECALLS ON OUR 2004 VOLVO V70 AND PERFORMED A $65 DIAGONSTIC SERVICE AND DETERMINED THAT OUR FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR HAD FAILED AND NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF OVER $400. WE PULLED RECALL INFORMATION FOR OUR CAR OFF MOTORTREND'S SITED (SEE BELOW) AND FORWARDED THIS TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP CALLED VOLVO'S CUSTOMER SUPPORT TEAM AND THEY SAID OUR CAR WAS OUTSIDE THE WARRANTY PERIOD AND HAD NO RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. WE COUNTERED THAT RECALLS ARE NOT WARRANTY CLAIMS AND FALL OUTSIDE THAT WINDOW. OUR CAR HAS EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE LISTED IN RECALL LISTED BELOW AND THE REPAIR AND DIAGNOSTIC TEST SHOULD BE HONORED BY VOLVO!! RECALL DATE JUN 05, 2007 CONSEQUENCES: MISFIRE MAY OCCUR DURING DRIVING THAT, IN TURN, WILL REDUCE THE ENGINE TORQUE AND IN THE WORST CASE SCENARIO, THE ENGINE MAY STALL WITHOUT WARNING. IN CERTAIN TRAFFIC SITUATIONS THIS COULD CAUSE AN UNSAFE SITUATION AND POSSIBLY A CRASH. REMEDY: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JUNE 29, 2007.
