AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
Volvo Car USA, LLC (Volvo Car) is recalling certain 2001-2006 S80 and 2001-2009 S60 vehicles. The driver's air bag inflator may explode during deployment, due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the driver's air bag, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 29, 2021. Owners may contact Volvo Car customer service at 1-800-458-1552. Volvo's number for this recall is R10125.

Volvo Car USA LLC (Volvo Car) is recalling certain 2001-2003 S80 and S60 vehicles sold or ever registered in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands (Saipan), and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The driver side frontal air bag inflator may rupture, sending metal fragments into the passage compartment, when the driver side air bag is deployed.
Remedy: Volvo Car will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver side air bag module, free of charge. The recall began April 20, 2021. Owners may contact Volvo Car customer service at 1-800-458-1552. Volvo Car's number for this recall is R10058.

VOLVO IS RECALLING CERTAIN VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH GARMIN 760 PORTABLE GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM (GPS) UNITS BECAUSE THE BATTERIES ON THOSE UNITS MAY OVERHEAT.
Remedy: VOLVO ADVISES OWNERS TO PLEASE STOP USING THE GARMIN PORTABLE GPS DEVICE IMMEDIATELY, AND VISIT THE GARMIN WEBSITE TO DETERMINE IF THEIR UNIT IS AFFECTED. THE UNIT'S BATTERY WILL BE REPLACED WITH A NEW BATTERY AND A SPACER WILL BE INSERTED ON TOP OF THE BATTERY NEXT TO THE PCB. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. The dealer had been notified about the recall; however, the contact was informed that the part was not yet available. The manufacturer was then notified and informed him that they were unaware of when the parts may have become available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnection.

I WAS ON A BUSY STREET WHEN I PULLED OUT INTO AN ONCOMING LINE OF TRAFFIC WHEN THE MOTOR COMPLETELY DIED LEAVING ME IN THE MIDDLE OF BOTH LANES OF TRAFFIC. AFTER A TIME I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THIS HAS ALSO HAPPENED IN BUMPER TO BUMPER HIGHWAY TRAFFIC. AS YOU ARE IDLING AT AN INTERSECTION OR AWAITING A TRAIN TO PASS, THE MOTOR RACES AND THEN SLOWS AND ALSO LURCHES AHEAD. FOOT MUST BE HARD ON THE BRAKE OR I COULD REAR END THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. THIS VEHICLE HAS ONLY ABOUT 65,000 MILES AND I HAVE NO IDEA WHY THIS IS HAPPENING. IT HAS BEEN A GREAT CAR UNTIL THIS STARTED HAPPENING. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON. I TOOK MY CAR TO MY MECHANIC WHO INFORMED ME THE CODE WAS FOR THROTTLE BODY POSITION SENSOR AND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL. I CALLED THE VOLVO DEALER AND ASKED THEM ABOUT IT. THEY SAID, YES THERE WAS A RECALL FOR SOFTWARE AND THAT MY VEHICLE HAD GOTTEN THE UPGRADE. I ASKED IF THERE WAS ANYTHING ELSE THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT, THE EMPLOYEE IN VOLVO SERVICE SAID NO. I RECEIVED THE SAME ANSWER WHEN I ASKED THEM IN PERSON. ON MARCH 1, 2011, NEARLY A YEAR LATER, I ASKED ANOTHER MECHANIC, WHO INFORMED ME THAT IF THE SOFTWARE UPGRADE DIDN'T WORK, THE DEALER WAS SUPPOSED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE THROTTLE BODY. I HAVE A 2001 VOLVO S80 T6 WITH 61000 MILES. WITHIN THE LAST TWO WEEKS IT FELT AS THOUGH THE CAR WAS "SLIPPING" OUT OF GEAR ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS... THE RPMS WOULD FLAIR THEN NORMALIZE. YESTERDAY THE CAR JUST QUIT MOVING. IT WAS TOWED TO THE VOLVO DEALER AND I WAS JUST TOLD THE TRANSMISSION IS SHOT AND WOULD COST $4000 TO REPLACE WITH A REMANUFACTURED ONE. MY PROBLEM DOES NOT SEEM TO BE AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. I'VE FOUND THAT ITS WELL KNOWN THE TRANSMISSION IS A PROBLEM AND SINCE THEY TEND TO FAIL AFTER 50000 MILES, VOLVO'S WARRANTY IS EXPIRED. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 VOLVO S80. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY REFUSED TO DIAGNOSE OR REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO ANOTHER FORD DEALER THAT WILL PERFORM THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED BEFORE AND SHE BELIEVES THAT THE CAUSE IS THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, WHICH IS CURRENTLY UNDER NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 06V441000. SHE ALSO STATED THAT THE RADIATOR WAS REPLACED AT 28,000 AND 56,000 MILES AND CURRENTLY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. I WAS DRIVING APPROX. 65 MILES AN HOUR ON I395 AND I WAS IN THE PASSING LANE. I WENT TO ACCELERATE AND MOVE INTO THE TRAVEL LANE AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO ACCELERATE. MY SPEED STARED TO REDUCE AND ALL OF THE POWER SHUT OFF IN THE VEHICLE. NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AND NO INDICATION ON WHAT THE CAR WAS SHUTTING DOWN. I CHECKED FOR VEHICLES BEHIND ME AND AROUND ME AND PUT ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS. I QUICKLY PULLED OFF OF THE BUSY HIGHWAY AND MANAGED TO STOP AT THE SIDE OF THE ROAD (MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY - NEXT TO THE MEDIAN). THE POLICE HAD SEEN ME PULL OVER AND CALLED A WRECKER SERVICE. THE CAR WAS BROUGHT TO THE PLACE WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE (FOREIGN MOTORS EAST IN BROOKLYN, CT) AND THEY KEPT THE CAR FOR THE NEXT 3 DAYS. THEY WERE UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE AND THIS JUST HAPPENED AGAIN LAST MONTH (JUNE 20TH 2007). IT WAS THE SAME CONDITIONS...DRIVING ON I395 WHEN THE ACCELERATION STOPPED AND THE CAR STARTED TO SLOW DOWN. I PULLED THE CAR OVER AND TURNED OFF THE CAR. I WAITED 2 MINUTES AND TURNED THE KEY AGAIN AND THE CAR WAS FINE. I DROVE THE NEXT 45 MINUTES WITH NO ISSUES. *TR

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE COMPUTER WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. AS OF JULY 5, 2007, THE REARVIEW MIRROR HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE POWERTRAIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 87,400 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,200.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 VOLVO S80. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH DOWNHILL, THE CONTACT SMELLED BURNING AND SAW SMOKE. THE VEHICLE HAD NO ACCELERATION, POWER STEERING, OR BRAKE FUNCTION. THE CONTACT APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. ALL OF THE WARNING INDICATOR LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE BURST INTO FLAMES FIFTEEN SECONDS AFTER STOPPING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED. THE VOLVO INVESTIGATORS STATED THAT THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY BIRD SEED DEPOSITS UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 56,000.

I'M A NEW OWNER OF A 2001 S80 T6 WITH 66K MILES. SECOND DAY OF OWNERSHIP I'M ON MY WAY HOME IN THE PASSING LANE OF A FREEWAY IN MA, TRAFFIC SLOWS TO A STOP. AS I ACCELERATE THE CAR STALLS. I PULL TO THE LEFT OF THE TRAVELING LANE, PUT THE CAR IN PARK, RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE NEXT DAY, I PULL UP TO A RED LIGHT, ACCELERATE AND THE CAR STALLS. I PUT IT IN PARK, RESTART THE CAR, AND AWAY I GO. NO MESSAGES, NO CHECK ENGINE, NO CODES THAT I KNOW OF. I TRAVEL 100 MILES A DAY, AND THE PROBLEM OCCURS AT LEAST EVERY OTHER DAY. THIS PROBLEM IN INTERMITTANT AND EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. THE HIGHWAY I TRAVEL ON ALLOWS TRAVEL IN BREAKDOWN LANES DURING RUSH HOUR. I NEED TO TRAVEL IN THE RIGHT TRAVEL LANE ALWAYS IN THE EVENT OF ANOTHER STALL. DEALERSHIP CLEANED THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE MODULE. PROBLEM CONTINUES. RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY SAY, "NO CODES, NO NEW THROTTLE". THAT'S THE VOLVO POLICY, GALLO VOLVO, WORCESTER, MASS. LOU IS THE SERVICE MANAGER. HOW MANY TIMES DOES MY CAR NEED TO UNEXPECTEDLY STALL BEFORE MY CAR SHOWS A CODE SO I CAN REPAIR MY FAULTY ETM? IT'S DANGEROUS TO MY FAMILY AND ME.

THE LOCAL VOLVO DEALER REFUSED TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE BECAUSE OF PAST PROBLEMS REGARDING THE BILL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WERE NO OTHER VOLVO DEALERS IN HIS AREA.
