Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain front-wheel drive 2015-2020 Audi A3 Sedan, 2015-2019 Audi A3 Cabriolet, 2019-2020 Volkswagen Jetta GLI, 2018 Golf Sportwagen GP, 2018-2019 Golf Sportwagen A7, 2015-2017 Golf Sportwagen, 2015-2020 Golf GTI, and 2015-2020 Golf A7 vehicles. Due to a problem with a suction jet pump seal inside the fuel tank, fuel may flow into the evaporative emissions (EVAP) system and possibly leak out of the charcoal canister.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the suction pump, free of charge. Final owner notification letters for Audi owners were mailed on July 25, 2024. Final owner letters for VW owners were mailed on August 13, 2024. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298 or Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Volkswagen's numbers for this recall are VW: 20UF/Audi: 20YF. Vehicles that were previously recalled under 16V-647 will need to have the new remedy completed. This recall expands and replaces previous recall number 16V-647.

Had an immediate loss of propulsion event without warning (2-Feb-2026) after recall work completed on 16-Dec-20256 (24V110000). I lost propulsion on public roads and was lucky that this happened just after I exited the highway otherwise I would have ended up in a life threatening situation
The vehicle was involved in a low-speed frontal collision (under approximately 20 mph) resulting in relatively minor front-end damage. Despite the limited severity of the impact, the driver frontal airbag and both the front and rear driver-side curtain airbags deployed. The vehicle has no prior accident history, had no SRS or airbag warning lights prior to the incident, and has approximately 86,000 miles. Due to the nature of the collision and the deployment of multiple airbags, I have concerns that the airbag system may have deployed unnecessarily or abnormally. I am requesting that this concern be formally documented. It is available for inspection. It has not been fixed. I have opened a case with VW.

Description of the Problem: The fuel pump failed and began spraying gasoline during operation. The malfunction was documented on video by an authorized Volkswagen mechanic and confirmed by a Volkswagen dealership in Honolulu, Hawaii. The component is available for inspection if required. Safety Risk: The failure caused pressurized gasoline to spray within the engine compartment, presenting a serious fire and explosion hazard. This defect posed a danger to the driver, passengers, and others nearby due to potential ignition of leaked fuel. Reproduction and Inspection: The condition was reproduced and confirmed by both an independent authorized Volkswagen mechanic and a Volkswagen dealership in Honolulu. The issue has not yet been inspected by Volkswagen of America, insurance representatives, or police authorities. Warning Signs or Prior Symptoms: A strong smell of gasoline inside the passenger cabin was present prior to discovery of the leak. No dashboard warning lights or error messages appeared. Summary: Fuel pump failure caused gasoline to spray under pressure. The problem was verified by an authorized VW mechanic and dealership in Honolulu, HI. The defective component remains available for inspection. Immediate safety risk due to potential ignition of fuel vapors.
On October 13, 2025, while driving my 2017 Volkswagen GTI, I noticed a strong odor of gasoline inside and around the vehicle. After parking and inspecting the car, I observed a large pool of gasoline forming in front of the rear passenger-side wheel well. This poses a serious safety risk due to the potential for fire or explosion from fuel leakage. This is the second time my vehicle has experienced gasoline leaking from this same area. The issue appears to originate from a component in or near the fuel system (potentially the fuel line, rollover valve, or suction jet pump assembly), but the specific part has not yet been confirmed. The vehicle is currently at Honolulu Volkswagen for inspection, and the affected components are available for review upon request. At this time, no warning lights, dashboard messages, or prior symptoms appeared before the leak occurred. The odor of gasoline was the first sign of the issue. I believe this recurring fuel leak presents a significant fire hazard and warrants further investigation by Volkswagen and NHTSA.
Rear back-up camera fails repeatedly. The image portrayed on the dash is garbled and I am unable to determine vehicles, obstacles or persons behind me when backing. Problem is very reproducible although the dealer has not diagnosed the problem. The car is out of warranty. The only message displayed on the screen is something like "Park Pilot error".

Earlier in 2024, Volkswagen of America issued a recall for the Suction Jet Pump, on the 14th of December i went to VW of Pompano Beach in Florida, to get the recall done, however, after they delivered back the car, it started to leak fuel after i put gas on it. On December 17th I took it again to the dealer to get it fixed and they gave me back the vehicle on December 19th. On [XXX] I put gas on the vehicle and it started to leak fuel again and this time it was way worse than before. I accuse the dealer of being responsible of performing a bad job on the recall as the vehicle had never leaked fuel before I had the recall done. I have the vehicle since February 2024. It worries me that there is a big possibility that the car can catch on fire if by any reason there is a spark near to me or there is any thing that can trigger the fuel to ignite. THE FUEL TANK AND CHARCOAL CANISTER IN THIS VEHICLE HAVE HAD TO BE REPLACED TWICE, ONCE BY THE DEALER I PURCHASED FROM (WEEKS PRIOR TO PURCHASE) AND AGAIN NOT EVEN A WEEK AFTER PURCHASE. IT WAS REPORTED THAT THE CHARCOAL CANISTER FLOODED WHILE FUELING, HOWEVER I NEVER TOP OFF MY VEHICLES. THIS ISSUES SEEMS TO BE COMMON IN THIS PARTICULAR MAKE AND MODEL. I NOTICED IT BY SMELL AT FIRST, BUT DIDN'T INVESTIGATE UNTIL I NOTICED A SIGNIFICANT DECLINE IN MY FUEL LEVEL OVERNIGHT, WHILE PARKED. ONCE I BEGAN TO INVESTIGATE I NOTICED A FUEL LEAK NEAR THE FUELING DOOR AT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE.
FUEL TANK WOULD NOT ACCEPT REFUELING. WHEN CHECKED OUT WAS FOUND THAT TANK WAS LEAKING GAS. CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND ACKNOWLEDGED THE FUEL TANK WAS LEAKING GASOLINE. THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT OF ANY TYPE.
INTERIOR TRIM IN FRONT OF SHIFTER IS UNREASONABLY SHARP. WHEN REMOVING ITEMS, LIKE CELL PHONE, OR WALLET FROM THE STORAGE CUBBY IN FRONT OF THE SHIFTER MULTIPLE FINGERS HAVE BEEN SNAGGED AND SLICED DEEPLY. THE FIRST TIME I WAS CUT THE CUT WAS SMALL ON THE TIP OF MY RIGHT RING FINGER. BECAUSE OF THE SHARPNESS OF THE TRIM PIECE I DID NOT KNOW I WAS CUT UNTIL I NOTICED BLOOD. I ALSO DID NOT KNOW WHERE THE FIRST CUT CAME FROM. IT WAS ONLY WHEN I WAS CUT 2 MORE TIMES, BOTH DEEPER AND WITH MORE BLEEDING THAT I REALIZED WHAT WAS CUTTING ME AND WHY IT WAS HAPPENING. IT IS TOO EASY FOR FINGERS TO GET CAUGHT ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE "CHROME" TRIM PIECE AROUND THE SHIFTER WHEN REMOVING ITEMS FROM THE STORAGE CUBBY.

THE PANORAMIC SUNROOF HAS BEGUN TO BECOME UNADHERED TO THE BODY CAUSING IT TO RAISE UP AND CREATE A GAP BETWEEN THE WINDSHIELD AND THE ROOF CAUSING EXCESS NOISE WHILE DRIVING. VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA DENIED MY CLAIM DESPITE HAVING A PENDING CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST MANY MODELS REGARDING THE SAME ISSUE.
FIRST NOTICED STRONG FUEL SMELL COMING FROM REAR PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL WELL. FUEL SMELL DISSIPATED AFTER AROUND 45 MINUTES. THE NEXT TIME I DROVE THE CAR, IT BEGAN BUCKING AS IF THERE WAS A FUEL PRESSURE ERROR. BY THE TIME I LIMPED THE CAR INTO MY DRIVEWAY, FUEL WAS POURING OUT OF THE SAME WHEEL WELL. THE CAR HAS LEAKED FUEL ON TWO MORE OCCASIONS SINCE THEN. I'VE SINCE FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE THAT VOLKSWAGEN ADDRESSED IN SAFETY RECALL 20Y6. FAULTY ELEMENTS IN THE FUEL TANK ARE CAUSING GASOLINE TO PURGE INTO THE EVAP SYSTEM AND THEN LEAK THROUGH THE EVAP CANISTER, DOWN ONTO THE WHEEL WELL. VW APPARENTLY MADE A BUSINESS DECISION NOT TO INCLUDE 2017 GOLFS IN THAT RECALL, DESPITE BEING IDENTICAL CARS. A QUICK LOOK THROUGH THESE COMPLAINTS OR IN VARIOUS VOLKSWAGEN FORUMS WILL SHOW THAT THIS ISSUE IS COMMON AND POPPING UP IN MORE AND MORE 2017 CARS AT AROUND 35K MILES.
THERE IS A CONSTANT COOLANT LEAK COMING FROM THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING AND WATER PUMP AREA. IT STARTED AS A SLOW LEAK, EVERY 10,000 MILES OR SO I WOULD HAVE TO TOP IT OFF AND NOW IT HAS GOTTEN TO THE POINT WHERE I HAVE TO FILL IT BACK UP EVERY DAY. LOOKED INTO IT ONLINE AND IT SEEMS THAT NEARLY EVERYONE THAT OWNS THIS CAR HAS THE SAME ISSUE AND EVERYONE'S LEAK COMES FROM THIS AREA.THE LEAK HAPPENS AT ALL TIMES BUT IS GREATLY ACCELERATED WHEN DRIVING AND THE COOLANT SYSTEM IS RUNNING.
DISCOVERED COOLANT LEAK ON OIL PAN AND CONTACTED DEALERSHIP. THIS WAS DURING ROUTINE INSPECTION. DEALERSHIP INSPECTION REVEALED A FAILED WATER PUMP HOUSING. DEALERSHIP REPLACED HOUSING, THERMOSTAT AND THERMOSTAT GASKET UNDER WARRANTY.
THE VW GTI IS 4 YEARS OLD AND HAS 32,753 MILES. DRIVING THROUGH A SHOPPING PLAZA, STEAM SUDDENLY BEGAN TO RISE FROM THE HOOD. UPON PARKING AND SHUTTING OFF THE ENGINE, STEAM CONTINUED TO RISE AND THE SWEET SMELL OF COOLANT WAS OBVIOUS. COOLANT BEGAN LEAKING OUT AND FORMED A PUDDLE UNDER THE VEHICLE. NO PRIOR SIGN OF COOLANT LEAKS. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHERE TECHNICIANS IDENTIFIED A DEFECTIVE WATER PUMP AND THERMOSTAT HOUSING. REPAIR WAS FIXED UNDER WARRANTY WITH THERMOSTAT 06L121111M AND WATER PUMP 06K121011C IN AUGUST 2020.
7-3-2020: DROVE CAR IN DRIVE MODE AND SPORT MODE THROUGHOUT THE AFTERNOON, STOPPED TO TALK TO SOMEONE AND CAR SAT ON A FLAT SURFACE, IDLING WHEN SUDDENLY THERE WAS GASOLINE LEAKING OUT OF THE REAR RIGHT WHEEL WELL. PARKED THE CAR FOR THE NIGHT, HAD NO MORE LEAKAGE. 7-4-2020: DROVE TO VW DEALER/SERVICE ABOUT 20 MINUTES AWAY IN DRIVE MODE, DID NOT HAVE REPLICATION OF THE GASOLINE LEAK. 7-6-2020: VW CALLED AND SAID THEY COULDN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. HE SAID THEY DROVE IT, HAD IT IDLE, PUT IT ON A FLAT AND AN ANGLED SURFACE, LOOKED AT EVERYTHING WHILE IT WAS ON A LIFT.. SAW NOTHING. I WAS OUT OF TOWN SO I PICKED THE CAR UP ON 7-13-2020. 7-13-2020: PICKED UP CAR AND DROVE HALF A MILE TO GAS STATION TO FILL UP. CAR IMMEDIATELY WOULD NOT ALLOW FUEL TO BE ADDED, POPPING THE GAS HANDLE LEVER EVERY HALF GALLON. I CALLED VW AND HE SAID TO TRY ANOTHER PUMP. I DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO CONTINUE CHECKING SO I DROVE THE CAR, IN DRIVE MODE, AND HAD NO PROBLEM. 7-15-2020: FINALLY HAD TIME TO TRY ANOTHER GAS PUMP, HAD THE SAME ISSUE WITH CAR NOT ALLOWING GAS TO BE FILLED, POPPING GAS HANDLE LEVER AGAIN EVERY HALF GALLON. DECIDED TO TAKE IT BACK TO VW. BRIEFLY PUT THE CAR IN SPORT MODE AND FELT LIKE THE CAR WAS STARVED OF FUEL. HAD MY HUSBAND FOLLOW BEHIND ME TO VW. DECIDED TO PUT IT INTO SPORTS MODE ABOUT A MILE FROM VW AND HUSBAND CALLED ME WITHIN SECONDS TO TELL ME MY VW WAS LEAKING FUEL, VARYING FROM A STEADY DRIP TO STREAM. HALF A MILE UP THE ROAD I PULLED INTO VW SERVICE AND FUEL WAS LEGIT GUSHING OUT, CREATING A PUDDLE THE SIZE OF A SMALL BABY POOL, WERE THERE NOT A DRAIN FOR IT TO DRAIN INTO IN THE SERVICE GARAGE. CURRENTLY AWAITING WORD ABOUT DIAGNOSIS.
AT 47,000 MILES THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ALLOW FUEL TO BE PUT INTO THE TANK. TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP TO BE TOLD THAT THE SUCTION PUMP INSIDE GAS TANK WAS OVER PRESSURIZING THE TANK CAUSING FUEL TO SHOOT OUT OF THE GAS FILLING TUBE. THIS EXACT SAME ISSUES WAS IN THE 2015 AND 2016 MODELS AND RECALL 20Y6 ADDRESSED THEM. NOW THE 2017 MODEL IS DOING THE SAME AND THEY ARE REFUSING TO FIX THE ITEM UNDER WARRANTY. LEAVING THESE VEHICLE AT HIGH RISK OF CATCHING FIRE DUE TO FUEL BEING EXPELLED FROM THE TANK WHEN ENGINE IS RUNNING.
I AM HAVING THE EXACT ISSUE FROM THE 2015-2016 GTI SUCTION PUMP RECALL. MY CAR IS A 2017 GTI AND IS LEAKING THROUGH THE CHARCOAL CANISTER FILTER. WHEN I TRY TO FILL THE TANK IT'S CUTTING OFF THE FLOW FROM THE GAS NOZZLE AS IF THE TANK WAS FULL BUT WHEN I CHECK THE TANK IS ALMOST EMPTY.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE BUT PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
STARTED TO NOTICE A FUEL ODOR IN THE VICINITY OF THE RIGHT-REAR WHEEL WHILE THE CAR WAS PARKED INSIDE MY GARAGE. MOVED THE CAR IMMEDIATELY OUTSIDE ON MY DRIVEWAY. DROVE THE CAR ONCE OR TWICE DURING THE FOLLOWING WEEK. AS THE CAR WAS PARKED ON THE DRIVEWAY THE ODOR PERSISTED. THEN ONE AFTERNOON A PUDDLE OF GAS WAS ON MY DRIVEWAY (ABOUT ONE PINT OF LIQUID) - THE CAR HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN IN 2 DAYS WHEN THE PUDDLE APPEARED. NOTIFIED MY LOCAL VW DEALER AND SCHEDULED THE REPAIR. THE DEALER DETERMINED THAT THE CHARCOAL CANISTER WAS FILLED WITH FUEL - ASSUMING THAT I OVERFILLED THE TANK, WHICH I DON'T BELIEVE HAPPENED. WHEN THE LEAK OCCURRED THE FUEL TANK WAS APPROXIMATELY 3/4 FULL. THE DEALER REPLACED THE LEAK DETECTION PUMP, N80 PURGE VALVE, AND THE CHARCOAL CANISTER. THE REPAIR WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE CAR HAS 55,578 MILES ON IT AND I HAVE OWNED IT JUST LESS THAN 3 YEARS. *TR
THE COOLANT HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN LOWER AND I BROUGHT MY CAR TO VW DEALER WHILE UNDER WARRANTY BUT THEY WANTED TO CHARGE $140 DIAGNOSTIC FEE TO PRESSURE TEST THE SYSTEM. I HAD THEM TOP OFF THE COOLANT FOR NOW BUT AFTER DOING RESEARCH IT APPEARS THAT THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING IS PRONE TO LEAKING. I WILL HAVE TO BRING MY CAR BACK SOON AND PROBABLY HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THE COOLANT SYSTEM OFFICIALLY CHECKED BECAUSE THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN. I HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR ABOUT 1 YEAR AND THE COOLANT LEVEL HAS LOWERED TO BELOW THE MINIMUM LINE. VW DEALER SAID THEY DID SEE SOME COOLANT IN MY ENGINE BAY AND CLEANED IT OFF TEMPORARILY BECAUSE I DID NOT WANT TO PAY THE $140 DIAGNOSTIC FEE AT THAT TIME. THEY TOPPED OFF THE COOLANT AND SAID TO COME BACK IF IT DRAINS MORE AND IF I WANT TO PAY FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST. MY CAR HAS 50,000 MILES ON IT AND IS UNDER WARRANTY UNTIL 60,000 MILES. *TR

CAR WAS SERVICED AT VW OF OCALA, FL, WHERE THEY REPLACED THE WATER PUMP, THERMOSTAT HOUSING AND RELEVANT GASKETS/SEALS. THIS MATCHES WHAT DOZENS OF OTHER VW GTI DRIVERS ARE EXPERIENCING IN THEIR CARS. 30K IS WAY TOO LOW OF MILES TO HAVE SUCH A MAJOR REPAIR DONE TO THESE CARS, AND COULD HAVE LED TO PREMATURE ENGINE WEAR/FAILURE BY OVERHEATING. *TR

CAR SUFFERED A FAILURE OF THE THERMOSTAT AT 26837 MILES CAUSING A LOSS OF COOLANT. COOLANT ODOR WAS APPARENT SINCE THE CAR WAS NEW. THIS APPEARS TO BE A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL AT LOW MILEAGE.

48K ON THE CAR, AND I WAS INFORMED OF THE LEAKING THERMOSTAT HOUSING THAT IS APPARENTLY KNOWN FOR GOING ON THIS CAR AS A DEFECTIVE PART: VW DID NOT TELL ME! I WAS INFORMED BY MY TECH WHO FORTUNATELY DISCOVERED THE ISSUE 1500 MILES BEFORE MY WARRANTY EXPIRED. VW SHOULD NOT CHARGE FOR THIS REPLACEMENT REGARDLESS OF MILES AS IT IS CLEARLY DEFECTIVE
2017 VW GTI 4 DOOR. SE TRIM. A COUPLE WEEKS AFTER REACHING 40K MILES, AFTER DRIVING SEVERAL BLOCKS AND MAKING IT ONTO A MAIN ROAD, THE VEHICLE STALLED OUT AND DIED WHILE IN MOTION AT ABOUT 20-25MPH. THIS WAS AFTER WHAT SEEMED LIKE A VERY CLUNKY FEELING SHIFTING TRANSMISSION FOR A FEW DAYS LEADING UP TO THE CAR BREAKING DOWN. CAR SMELLED LIKE FUEL IN THE CABIN. CAR NEEDED TO BE TOWED TO VEWDEALERSHIP IN LATE HOURS OF THE EVENING. DEALERSHIP CALLED THE NEXT DAY TO SAY THEY WERE ABLE TO TURN THE CAR ON AND DRIVE IT. NO OBVIOUS ERROR CODES ON VEHICLE AND THEY WOULD DO SOME DEEPER DIVING INTO WHAT CAN BE WRONG. THEY HELD ONTO THE CAR FOR 4 DAYS AND WERE NOT ABLE TO "DUPLICATE THE ISSUE" SO THEY RETURNED THE CAR BACK TO ME. THEY THOUGHT "MAYBE A PIECE OF DIRT GOT INTO A FUEL INJECTOR BUT WORKED IT'S WAY OUT" AFTER NOT EVEN A WEEK, THE CAR STALLED OUT AND DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF A MAIN ROAD AGAIN WHILE MOVING ABOUT 20MPH. THIS TIME AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO TURN ON AND DROVE DIRECTLY BACK TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP WITH BO ERROR FAULT CODES APPEARING ON THE DASH ONCE AGAIN. NO CABIN FUEL SMELL THIS TIME BUT STALLED OUT EXACTLY THE SAME. THEY HAVE BEEN HOLDING ONTO MY VEHICLE AGAIN WITH NO APPARENT IDEAS HOW TO REPAIR IT. THEY ARE GOING TO OPEN A CLAIM WITH VW. THIS WAS A DANGEROUS SITUATION STALLING BOTH TIMES ON MAIN ROADS WHERE I COULD HAVE BEEN REAR ENDED. CHILDREN ARE DRIVEN AROUND IN MY VEHICLE WHICH CAN RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY.
I CAN HEAR LOUD WINNING NOISE FROM THE BACK OF THE CAR AT 35 MPH AND HIGHER. I THINK IT COULD BE WHEEL BEARINGS OR BAD ROTORS. I HAVE ABOUT 48000MILES ON THE CAR .
I FIND THAT MY COOLANT LEVEL SLOWING GOES DOWN AND I'VE HAD TO REFILL SEVERAL TIMES ALREADY. MAYBE 2 TIMES A YEAR SINCE I OWNED IT. NEVER HAD TO REPLACE COOLANT ON ANY OTHER CARS. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS WILL CAUSE A BIGGER ISSUE DOWN THE LINE.
THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING ON THE ENGINE DEVELOPED A SIGNIFICANT LEAK, ALLOWING COOLANT TO DRIP ON THE ROADWAY AND ALSO ENDANGERING THE CAR'S ENGINE FROM OVERHEATING AND POSSIBLE POWER LOSS. THIS COULD OF COURSE CAUSE A SLIPPERY ROAD SURFACE AND COULD ALSO RESULT IN THE CAR LOSING POWER ON THE STREET CREATING A HAZARD.
ENGINE IS LOSING COOLANT. STARTED AT ~50K MILES MARKED. COOLANT NEEDS TO BE TOPPED OFF. NOW THE CAR IS AT 71K MILES. LOW COOLANT TRIGGERED WARNING LIGHT AGAIN! COOLANT NEEDS TO BE TOPPED OFF. THERE APPEARS TO BE WHITE CRUSTY MARKED NEAR THE ENGINE OIL PAN AND SEEM TO BE COMING OFF FROM THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING.
MY WINDSHIELD HAS HEAVY PITTING AND SMALL CHIPPING AFTER JUST 50,000 MILES. LOOKING ONLINE IN THE VARIOUS VW FORUMS (VWVORTEX, MK7GOLF, ETC), I DISCOVERED THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH VW NOW. THE GLASS IS THIN AND CHEAP. THE PITTING IS VERY VISIBLE WHEN DRIVING INTO THE SUN AND IS VISIBLE AT NIGHT WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC. IT ALSO CAUSES WIPER BLADES TO WEAR OUT QUICKLY. THIS IS A REAL SAFETY ISSUE AS IT IS HARD TO SEE UNDER THE RIGHT CONDITIONS.

THIS COULD AFFECT ANY VW/AUDI VEHICLE USING THE 1.8 OR 2.0L EA888 GEN 3 ENGINE. VW HAS A LONG HISTORY OF WATER PUMP/THERMOSTAT HOUSING ISSUES AND THE CURRENT GENERATION OF VEHICLES IS NO EXCEPTION. OFTEN, VW SERVICE CENTERS ARE UNABLE TO VERIFY THERE IS A LEAK, EVEN AFTER PRESSURE TEST, OWNERS ARE SENT ON THEIR WAY, AND YET COOLANT STILL DISAPPEARS FROM THE TANK. MY WIFE'S CAR WENT IN FOR TESTING MULTIPLE TIMES BEFORE ISSUE WAS FOUND. 2. HOUSING HEATING/COOLING CAUSES EXPANSION/CONTRACTION AND WARPING RESULTING IN A SMALL BUT CONSTANT LEAK LARGE ENOUGH TO CREATE A SMALL PUDDLE OR STREAM UNDER THE CAR. A LOW COOLANT ALERT MAY/MAY NOT APPEAR DEPENDING ON SPEED OF THE LEAK. 3. HOUSING HEATING/COOLING CAUSES EXPANSION/CONTRACTION AND WARPING RESULTING IN A SUDDEN CATASTROPHIC FAILURE RESULTING IN RAPID LOSS OF COOLANT AND CAUSING A VISIBLE LARGE PUDDLE UNDER THE CAR AND A WARNING ALERT TO APPEAR ON THE DASHBOARD.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 VOLKSWAGEN GTI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT FUEL SPILLED ONTO THE GROUND WHILE THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO FILL THE FUEL TANK. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO FILL UP THE FUEL TANK. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME AND NOTICED THAT THE FUEL LEVEL HAD DROPPED. THE CONTACT PARKED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT FUEL SPILLED OUT OF THE FUEL TANK WHILE DRIVING AND THE FUEL TANK WAS EMPTY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
NUMEROUS CRACKS APPEARED IN THE SUNROOF FRAME OF THE 2017 VW GTI CAUSING LEAKING AND INSTABILITY OF PANORAMIC SUNROOF. VW ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN TO PREVENT CRACKING IN PANORAMIC SUNROOFS. THIS SERVICE BULLETIN WAS PERFORMED WITHIN THE FIRST 1000 MILES AND NOT ONLY FAILED TO PREVENT THE PROBLEM, BUT THE CRACKS ACTUALLY FORMED IN THE VERY PLACES WHERE THE TAPE AND SEALANT WERE APPLIED.
AT AROUND 28,000 MILES, WHEN THE TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE WAS NEAR FREEZING AND THE CAR HAD BEEN SITTING OVERNIGHT, I NOTICED A ROTATIONAL SQUEAKING/CHIRPING NOISE WHEN THE INTERIOR FAN SPEED WAS ON THE LOWER SETTINGS. THE FREQUENCY WOULD CHANGE WHEN THE FAN SPEED CHANGED. THE ISSUE GOT WORSE WHEN MAKING LEFT TURNS. ONCE THE CAR WARMED UP, THE NOISE WOULD GO AWAY. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP MULTIPLE TIMES WITH AUDIO AND VIDEO OF THE PROBLEM AND THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE AND TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT REPLACE THE PART UNTIL THEY WERE ABLE TO DUPLICATE IT THEMSELVES. I WAS CONTACTED BY MANAGEMENT AND THE DEALERSHIP FINALLY REPLACED THE BLOWER MOTOR ONCE I REDUCED MY RATING FOR THEM ON GOOGLE REVIEWS. THE MANAGER STATED THAT THE BLOWER MOTOR THEY INSTALLED WAS AN UPDATED PART. THE REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED AT APPROXIMATELY 35,900 MILES.
NOTICED BURNING COOLANT SMELL COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AFTER THE VEHICLE REACHED OPERATING TEMPERATURE AND THE CAR WAS STOPPED. COULD HEAR A SIZZLING NOISE WITH THE ENGINE OFF AND THE HOOD OPEN. THE COOLANT LEVEL WAS AT THE MINIMUM LINE. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED A LEAKING THERMOSTAT HOUSING. DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE PART UNDER WARRANTY. THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED AT 34,655 MILES.
THE "COMBI" VALVE ON MY GTI STAYS STUCK OPEN CAUSING MORE EXHAUST GASES TO FLOW THROUGH THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. AS A RESULT NMY CATALYTIC CONVERTER HAD TO BE REPLACED. AFTER REPLACING TO COMBI VALVE. IT HAPPENED AGAIN
