FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2010-2012 Ford Escape vehicles manufactured February 26, 2009, to April 29, 2012, and 2010-2011 Mercury Mariner vehicles manufactured February 25, 2009, to December 12, 2010. On vehicles with a 3.0L engine, the Fuel Delivery Module (FDM) may crack, causing a fuel leak.
Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the FDM flange with one that has a redesigned fuel supply port, free of charge. Remedy parts are currently unavailable. Interim notices were mailed to owners on December 13, 2016. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 16S41.

SUSPENSION:FRONT:WHEEL BEARING
The Timken Company (Timken) is recalling certain aftermarket front wheel bearings, part number 510072, sold from January 22, 2015, to May 21, 2015, to be used as service parts on 2001-2012 Ford Escape, 2001-2011 Mazda Tribute, and 2005-2011 Mercury Mariner vehicles. The affected wheel bearings have incorrect dimensions of a 42mm bore, 76mm outer dimension, and 39mm width, instead of a 42mm bore, 78mm outer dimension and a 45mm width.
Remedy: Timken has begun notifying distributors who will offer purchasers replacement wheel bearings, free of charge. The recall began on May 21, 2015. Owners may contact Timken customer service at 1-866-984-6536.

STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2008-2011 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner vehicles manufactured August 18, 2006, through September 11, 2010. The affected vehicles have a steering torque sensor that may not be able to properly detect driver steering input. As a result, the system could remove the Electric Power Steering (EPS) assist.
Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will update the software for the power steering control module (PSCM) and the instrument cluster module, free of charge. If a vehicle shows a history of a loss of the torque sensor signal or fault codes relating to the PSCM when the vehicle is brought in for the recall remedy, the affected components will be replaced, free of charge. The recall began on July 18, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S05.

My dealer says my subframe needs to be replaced, and controll arm at a cost of 3600 dollars, I don't understand why my subframe needs to be replaced, I've owned cars for as long as 20 yrs and never had that problem. This sounds like a manufacturers problem.

The contact owns a 2011 Mercury Mariner. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was a strong fuel odor inside the vehicle. In addition, the contact stated that the fuel odor was noticeable all the way to the rear seat. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the contact was informed that the tools needed to perform the repair were not available. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The contact was informed by the Insurance Provider of an unrepaired recall, under NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V777000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

The contact owns a 2011 Mercury Mariner. The contact stated that while attempting to make a turn from a complete stop, the steering wheel became significantly difficult to turn. The contact was able to turn the vehicle by using physical force. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer, where it was diagnosed with electric power steering system torque sensor failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 141,968.

The contact owns a 2011 Mercury Mariner. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power and failed to accelerate above 10 MPH. The contact was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway, after which the vehicle stalled. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle briefly returned to normal functionality, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the throttle body. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related it to Customer Satisfaction Program 13N03, but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 116,000.

The contact owns a 2011 Mercury Mariner. The contact stated while entering a fast-food drive-thru, the power steering warning light illuminated, and the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V284000 (Steering) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.

While my wife was driving the vehicle, the power assisted steering failed and produced a "power assist fault code" on the display. The car became too hard for a 74 year old woman to be able to steer. I took the car to the Ford dealer near me who confirmed it was the steering torque sensor had failed and needed to order in one and would cost $600 to replace. I did a VIN search on your data base, but it didn't show any recalls for this problem. However a google search showed a recall for my vehicle make, model and date of manufacturer and part of the Ford 14SO5 recall. The information on your web site shows that Mercury Mariners manufactured prior to Sept.11, 2010 were affected. Mine was manufactured in August of 2010. According to the Ford notices as published on your web site my car should be part of that recall and should receive a software update that would prevent the steering assist from being turned off. The Ford dealer is refusing to do the update and sensor replacement for free since that recall doesn't show up under my VIN. Its funny, because my car is doing the exact thing the recall was for and fits the vehicle description and date of manufacture to qualify.

The contact owns a 2011 Mercury Mariner. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel became difficult to turn in either direction. After turning off the vehicle and restarting the engine, the vehicle would operate normally. The vehicle was taken to and independent mechanic who diagnosed that the steering shaft torque sensor was faulty and need to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in the NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V284000 (Steering). The contact indicated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 140,000. THE CONSUMER STATED THE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE WAS B2278. THE CONUSMER STATED DUE TO THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCING THE SAME FAILURE DETAILED IN THE RECALL NOTICE, THAT THE VEHICLE SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.

This car has excessive under body rust under all the wheels wells. I was just told that my car would not pass a State Inspection because the on the front drivers side there is a bracket that holds up the engine is almost totally gone. I have read and over that this vehicle has a known rust and corrosion issue and Mercury/Ford has not been made responsible. I bought this car from a Ford Dealer in Aberdeen, MD used in 2018 and made them aware that I noticed rust on the rear wheel panels. They told me there is no recall however now I am not in a position to purchase or fix the entire under carriage of this vehicle. And I do not feel safe that an important bracket supporting the engine is totally rusted out.

REGARDING: NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 14V-284, FORD RECALL NUMBER 14S05 ELECTRIC POWER STEERING THE RECALL INSTRUCTIONS TO DEALERS CALL FOR A SIGNAL TEST AND EITHER REPROGRAMMING A SENSOR OR REPLACING THE TORQUE SENSOR BASED ON THE RESULTS. IT ALSO CALLS FOR REPLACING THE TORQUE SENSOR UPON FAILURE IF THE FAILURE OCCURRED BEFORE THE VEHICLE HAD THE RECALL SENSOR PERFORMED. THE RECALL INSTRUCTIONS TO DEALERS ALSO TELLS THEM THAT A TORQUE SENSOR THAT FAILS AFTER THE REPROGRAMMING WAS DONE IS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL. THE PURPOSE OF THE SENSOR REPROGRAMMING WAS TO INITIATE A WARNING IN THE DRIVER CONTROL CENTER UPON IMMINENT SENSOR FAILURE, BUT DOES NOTHING TO FIX, REPAIR OR REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE PART. I HAD THE DEALER PERFORM THE TEST AND SOFTWARE UPGRADE AND WAS UNDER THE MISTAKEN IMPRESSION THAT THE RECALL WAS TO ACTUALLY REPLACE THE STATISTICALLY FAULTY PART , AND NOT JUST A POTENTIAL WARNING. GOT HOME FROM SHOPPING, FIANCEE WAS GETTING THE REST OF THE GROCERIES. SHE CLOSED THE TRUNK NORMALLY, NEVER SLAMMING OR ANYTHING, AND THE ENTIRE REAR WINDSHIELD SHATTERED AND FELL TO THE GROUND. LUCKILY, NO ONE WAS INJURED, BUT SHE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED IF ONE OF THE LARGE PIECES HAD FELL ON HER OR A SHARD COULD'VE FLOWN IN HER EYES. A WINDSHIELD SHOULD NOT SHATTER AND EXPLODE FROM NORMAL USE, THIS IS CLEARLY DEFECTIVE AND I WILL BE IN DIRECT CONTACT WITH THE MANUFACTURER. IT IS MY BELIEF THAT THE HYDRAULIC PUMPS RESPONSIBLE FOR HOLDING THE WINDSHIELD UP WHEN IT IS OPENED SOMEHOW MALFUNCTIONED AND PUSHED ON THE WINSHIELD TOO HARD WHEN IT CLOSED, RESULTING IN THE COMPLETE SHATTERING OF THE WINDSHIELD.

WHILE DRIVING ON I90, RECENTLY NOTICED NOISE IN STEERING COLUMN WHICH HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE AND STEERING WHEEL NOW SHAKES. TAKEN TO FORD DEALER WAS TOLD IT WAS ATORQUE ANGLE STEERING SENSOR. FIX ABOUT $500 UNLESS THE STEERING COLUMN IS BROKEN! FIX THEN 1530. HOW DOES A STEERING COLUMN BREAK? RECALL 14S05 FOR STEERING PROBLEM. SUPPOSEDLY IF THIS WAS FIXED FORD IS RELEASED FROM ANY RECALL DEALING WITH STEERING IF IT HAS BEEN REPLACED. APPARENTLY FORD OMITTED THIS INFO FROM THE PUBLIC JUST WONDERED IF I HAVE ANY RECOURSE TO RESOLVE THIS. FORD DEALER SAYS NO RECALL. FORD COMPANY SAYS THIS IS NOT UNDER RECALL AS I HAD PRIOR RECALL TAKEN CARE OF. THERE ARE NUMEROUS OTHER COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS VEHICLE AND THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM WITH THE EXACT SAME OUTCOME. FORD HAS NOT FIXED THE ISSUE! VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN DO YOU DO RECALL MY PREVIOUS OWNER AND ONLY SOFTWARE WAS UPDATED PERTAINING TO THE POWER STEERING RECALL. IT IS NOT A SOFTWARE UPDATE ISSUE. THE TORQUE SENSOR MUST BE REPLACED. FORD WILL NOT COVER NOR REIMBURSE THIS ISSUE. MANY OTHER CUSTOMERS ARE HAVING THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM. WRENCH LIGHT ON MERCURY MARINER 2011 WITH SLOW (20-40MPH MAX) AND ROUGH RIDE HOME. YESTERDAY WHILE LEAVING WORK, I TURNED RIGHT OUT OF THE PARKING LOT ONTO THE MAIN ROAD. IMMEDIATELY MY MARINER HESITATED, JERKED FORWARD, AND A WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. MY SUV SLOWLY ACCELERATED TO 20MPH AND STRUGGLED TO GET TO 40MPH. IT ROAD ROUGH AND I WASN'T SURE IF IT WOULD STALL OR NOT; HOWEVER, I WAS ABLE TO SLOWLY MAKE IT HOME. I LOOKED UP THE WRENCH LIGHT AND LEARNED I WAS LIKELY HAVING A THROTTLE BODY OR POWERTRAIN PROBLEM. I FOUND ONLINE THAT THE DEALER WOULD FIX IT, BUT UNFORTUNATELY, THAT WAS ONLY THROUGH JANUARY 2015 AND HAD EXPIRED (BEFORE THE DEALER EVEN SOLD ME THE SUV.) I STARTED THE SUV THIS MORNING TO TAKE TO THE DEALER TO GET FIXED, BUT THE WRENCH LIGHT HAS GONE OFF AND THERE IS NOT PROOF TO SHOW THE DEALER OF THE PROBLEM. I AM LOOKING INTO REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY AT MY OWN COST AS A PREVENTIVE NATURE. I WISH I WOULD HAVE KNOWN OF THIS BEFORE THE DEALER SOLD ME THE CAR.

LAST YEAR, DRIVING ON STATE HIGHWAY AND VEHICLE LOSES POWER. WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON, ENGINE IS RUNNING, NO GAS, ETC. SHUT OFF, WAIT, AND START AGAIN. LIGHT IS OFF AND RUNS OK. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES. CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE AND SHOWED THERE WAS A CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE RECALL ON THROTTLE BODY. TOOK IT TO A DEALER AND THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG. I GOT IT BACK, AND PROBLEM REOCCURRED. TOOK IT BACK TO DEALER,THEY DROVE IT AROUND, AND COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. FINALLY, IN ANOTHER CITY, LEFT WORK AND LOST POWER AND ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND DIDN'T GO OFF AFTER RESTART. CONTACTED DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THROTTLE BODY SENSOR (OR SIMILAR) FOR FREE. THIS LAST WEEK, WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 75MPH IN TRAFFIC AND I LOSE POWER IN PASSING LANE. LUCKILY COASTED TO SHOULDER, RESTARTED AND LIGHTS OFF. HAPPENED AGAIN THIS MORNING GOING TO WORK ON STATE HIGHWAY AT 60MPH. TALKED TO FORD AND WAS TOLD THEY CANNOT HELP ME UNTIL I HAVE A DEALER LOOK AT IT. CANNOT GET AN APPOINTMENT UNTIL END OF NEXT WEEK. WORRIED ABOUT DRIVING THIS VEHICLE I'VE HAD LESS THAN 5 YEARS, BUT IF DEALER CANNOT FIND ERROR, I HAVE TO TAKE MY CHANCES AND WAIT UNTIL THEY CAN GET AN ERROR.

IN DECEMBER OF 2013, I WAS INVOLVED IN A FENDER BENDER. AFTER THIS ACCIDENT THE AIR BAG LIGHT REMAINED ON. IN JANUARY OF 2015 I WAS BUMPED FROM BEHIND WITH NO DAMAGE. HOWEVER, I THEN DECIDED I SHOULD TAKE IN MY CAR TO SEE WHY THE LIGHT WAS STILL ON. AS IT TURNS OUT, THE AIRBAG MODULE WAS APPARENTLY DAMAGED BEYOND REPAIR. I BELIEVE THAT THIS PART WAS DEFECTIVE AS THE SPEED OF EITHER COLLISION SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ENOUGH TO CAUSE THE AIRBAG SYSTEM TO COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. ADDITIONALLY, THE HIGH COST OF THE MODULE ALSO MADE IT VERY COSTLY TO REPAIR. THIS MODEL OF MARINER HAS BEEN SUBJECT TO A RECALL BEFORE. I HAD TO TAKE IT INTO A SHOP BECAUSE IT WOULD SHUT DOWN ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I BELIEVE THAT MORE MARINERS WILL SEE FAILURES OF THIS AIRBAG MODULE IN THE FUTURE AND THAT THIS WILL REQUIRE A RECALL.
