HYBRID PROPULSION SYSTEM: INVERTER
Toyota is recalling certain model year 2006-2010 Highlander hybrid vehicles manufactured February 16, 2005, through July 29, 2010; and model year 2006-2008 Lexus RX400h vehicles manufactured February 23, 2005, through December 2, 2008. The Intelligent Power Module (IPM) inside the inverter module may contain transistors that have higher operating temperatures than the solder can support and the transistors may be heat damaged by the solder. If this occurs, various warning lamps, including the malfunction indicator lamp, slip indicator light, brake system warning light, and master warning light, will be illuminated on the instrument panel.
Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace the IPM free of charge. Owners may contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331. Vehicles that had their IPM replaced under recall 11V-342 are not affected by this campaign.

TOYOTA DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE HYBRID INVERTER PRODUCTION NUMBER TO DETERMINE WHETHER THE INVERTER CONTAINS SUSPECT TRANSISTORS AND REPLACE THE MODULE FREE OF CHARGE. THEY SAID IF THAT DOESN'T WORK THAT NEW SUPPORT ASSEMBLY FOR THE AIRBAG WILL NEED TO BE INSTALLED. REAR LATCH COVER HAS MELTED AND MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO OPEN THE HATCH USING IT.
THE RUBBER COVER FOR THE REAR HATCH IS "MELTING" VERY STICKY AND WILL NOT OPEN THE DOOR.

UNFORTUNATELY, IT APPEARS LEXUS/TOYOTA WILL NOT ISSUE A RECALL FOR A WHAT IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURER DEFECT, AND DEMANDING US TO REPAIR THE HEADLIGHT AT OUR OWN EXPENSE, WHICH IS SUBSTANTIAL. RUBBER HANDLE PART TO OPEN THE HATCH BACK, BECAME GOOEY LIKE TAR, AND MADE A BIG MESS. DIFFICULT TO CLEAN OFF OF THINGS AND HANDS. PROGRESSIVELY WORSENED. TEMPORARY REPETITIVE SOLUTIONS WAS TO CUT TO FIT BLACK DUCT TAPE AND TOTALLY COVER THE MESS, BUT COULD STILL PRESS THE MECHANISM IF NECESSARY. MOSTLY USE REMOTE NOW OR THE BUTTON IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT. WHEN THEY GOT ME OUT A SECOND TIME ABOUT A HALF AN HOUR LATER, I JUST LEFT THE CAR UNLOCKED SINCE I WAS IN A SAFE, SECURED LOT. SINCE I AM NOT USUALLY AROUND MY CAR AT THE STORE, MALL, ETC, I HAVE NO IDEA HOW MANY OTHER TIMES IT WENT OFF UNTIL I WAS AT A FUNERAL IN SIMI VALLEY. LAST TIME WAS WHEN I WAS AT A FRIENDS HOUSE AND PARKED IN HER DRIVEWAY. AFTER ABOUT 30 MINUTES OR SO, I HEAR THE ALARM GO OFF. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED THE CONTACT INQUIRED ABOUT NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 11V342000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) BUT WAS ADVISED THAT BECAUSE THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE BATTERY WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE, THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE UNDER THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 58,000.
I BOUGHT TWO BRAND NEW TIRES FOR MY 2007 LEXUS 400H, AND BOTH BLEW OUT WITHIN A MONTH OF EACH OTHER, AFTER DRIVING LESS THAN 2000K ON THEM. THIS HAS TO BE A DEFECT WITH THE TIRE. I HAVE NEVER HAD TIRES BLOW OUT LIKE THIS. THE TOP LAYER PEELS OFF FROM THE UNDER LAYERS. I CALLED THE COMPANY I PURCHASED THEM FROM TO LET THEM KNOW THERE IS A REAL SAFETY ISSUE WITH THESE TIRES AND THEY DID NOT CARE TO LISTEN.
