Component that failed: Sunroof How was safety at risk: I was driving my 2025 Grand Highlander on Sunday, [XXX} in the morning. While I was driving, my sunroof exploded, causing a loud noise and a blowout in the front part of the sunroof (pictures included). There was no debris on the road or any oth
... er reason for the sunroof to have exploded. This was extremely shocking and concerning - if we had not kept the sunroof shade closed, the glass from the sunroof would have fallen directly on myself and my wife as we were driving, potentially causing an extremely dangerous situation. The sunroof blew outward, NOT inward as would have been expected if something had hit it and caused it to shatter. I also found multiple forums where I discovered that this is a common problem: [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] The problem is widespread enough across models that there is an ongoing lawsuit regarding panoramic sunroofs: [XXX] The dealer and Toyota are claiming that it had to be an external source, but again, there was no debris in the area or any other reason to cause the blowout. The vehicle has been inspected by the manufacturer's field service technicians. It is currently still at the dealer, awaiting final decision on coverage for the blowout. There were no warnings. I am writing to file a formal safety complaint concerning a rental vehicle provided to me by Hertz, 1) because I want to help ensure this does not happen to anyone else, and 2) to request action that prevents a similar safety failure from recurring. Hertz rented me a near-new vehicle to transport m
... y medically fragile daughter, but it had a slow-leaking front tire that Discount Tire documented as “not repairable” due to an existing non–RMA-approved rope plug repair, which is unsuitable for passenger vehicles. When this was discovered, I had already driven the vehicle over 200 miles. I am asking for a review of Hertz’s fleet safety and tire inspection practices so that other renters are not given vehicles with unsafe, improperly repaired tires. The Hertz general manager of Michigan and Ohio revealed that the Kicks they had rented to me was a new Hertz acquisition, and that they had no record of having performed any repairs on the vehicle. As such, he was unaware of this temporary rope plug repair. I am requesting a review of Hertz's inspection and tire-repair practices, including whether vehicles are being placed into service with plug-only tire repairs or without proper pressure checks and safety screening. I am also requesting action requiring clear safeguards so that any vehicle with an improperly repaired, leaking, or unsafe tire is removed from rental service immediately and not offered to another customer until the tire is replaced and the vehicle is verified safe for highway use. While my case specifically involves missed tire inspections, this incident raises concerns about Hertz’s inspection protocols for the entire vehicle. We do not know how many other unsuspecting customers across Hertz’s global rental fleet have been placed in danger because of this negligence. I am writing to demand that Hertz be held accountable, and that the proper authorities make sure this negligence is corrected.Read more

Summary: I am reporting two significant defects on my 2025 Nissan Sentra that pose safety risks. 1. Suspension/Steering: During low-speed maneuvers (approx. 20mph) such as navigating roundabouts, there is a persistent mechanical creaking/squealing noise from the front passenger side. The dealership
... technician verified the noise but provided a physically impossible diagnosis, claiming "tires were slipping," despite the vehicle being brand new with tires in perfect condition. This suggests a defect in the control arm bushings or strut mounts which affects steering predictability. 2. Power Window/Electrical: The driver-side window produces a loud, piercing screech when operated. More critically, the window switch has experienced intermittent functional failure where it becomes unresponsive. This is a safety hazard as it could prevent emergency egress or cabin ventilation. Manufacturer Response: > Both issues are documented and have been reported to Nissan Consumer Affairs (Case #56515863). However, the manufacturer stated they have "no solution" and directed me to argue with the dealership. No technical specialist has been assigned to inspect these safety-related mechanical and electrical failures. The vehicle is available for inspection.Read more

It was initially diagnosed by a mobile mechanic and then taken to a independent service mechanic who confirmed the initial diagnosis. It was then confirmed again by a third party independent mechanic. The engine light did not appear until the noise started and what I now know as when the lifters failed, at which after my vehicle alerted me with the engine light. When the problem first occurred, I was driving around 35 MPH down a public road, I had to immediately slow down and pull over. I then limped the vehicle to a safe destination where the mobile mechanic was able to check it out. Luckily, I was not going high speeds and the public road I was driving on was not busy so I was able to pull over safely upon the issue the start of the warning lamp flashing. The engine component failure would have been a much higher safety risk for myself and others if I was driving on a busy road or highway. CRITICAL SAFETY DEFECT: HIGH-SPEED BRAKING SURGE & ELECTRICAL FAILURE Life safety concerning ! 1. Braking Failure at Highway Speeds: The vehicle exhibits a severe safety defect involving unintended acceleration/surging while braking. While driving in 'D' (Drive) mode at approximately 50 MPH, when a

Instead of slowing down, the vehicle surges forward against the braking input, feeling like a loss of regenerative braking authority. This results in extended stopping distances and near-miss collision risks at high speeds. 2. Charging & Electrical System Failure (Suspected Recalls): The vehicle suffers from persistent electrical failures that the dealer dismissed as "user error" or a "bad plug," but which match known Audi safety recalls: (A)AC & On-Board Charger Failure: The vehicle threw "AC System" error codes and fails to charge reliably, shutting off after short periods. This mirrors symptoms of Recall 93FR (High-Voltage Battery/On-Board Charger), risking a 12V battery stall. My car model was among those impacted recalled car dearies even now it is not listed as one of the recall Model by VIN#, I strongly suspected my car has same defect. (B):Charging Cable Overheating: The included 220V charging cable is suspected to be defective (matching Recall 93U6), which poses a fire risk at the outlet. (C)Interior Voltage Instability: Wired USB-C ports cut power/disconnect devices less than 5 minutes of use. 3. Dealer Negligence: The dealership (Audi Tysons Corner) failed to diagnose these issues ("Could Not Replicate"), refused to replace the recalled charging cable, and released the vehicle with active "Inspection Due" warning lights. Two batteries in my Subaru suddenly started draining completely within a few days of each other. One day my husband was on a busy street and the dashboard began flashing, the lights, dImmed, and the car started making an unusual beeping sound. Our mechanic called Subaru and was told that it could be
... a problem with a VCM fuse. He tested the car overnight and easily discovered the VCM fuse was the problem. The part to fix the problem has been back-ordered for two months and the local Subaru dealer says it will be at least two more months before the part arrives. Subaru has acknowledged that the car is not safe to drive. Subaru customer advocacy has told us that the repair is not covered under our power train warranty. The part costs $900. Plus, we have had to rent a car for over $1000 a month. Subaru wants us to bring the car to a dealer to confirm that the problem is the VCM. The dealership is quite a ways away and the cost of towing the car could be very expensive. I said that I would be willing to pay the cost of towing so long as Subaru agrees to reimburse me if the dealership finds that the problem is the VCM. Subaru will not pay the cost of towing and said they might not pay for the cost of repairing the VCM if that is the problem. They would decide that only after they saw the car. Although Subaru has known for years of the problems with the VCM, they have never issued a recall nor have they even informed us of the potential problem. (My daughter had the same thing happen a few years ago. At that time, the needed part was available and Subaru did not charge her). The defect with the VCM presents serious safety issues and now I will be without the car for at least two months and Subaru is not taking responsibility for the defect. Suddenly, one morning on my way to work the steering became extremely heavy and the handling became very dull. The steering wheel still turned the wheels, but it required a vast amount of effort where the previous day the steering wheel could have been turned with one finger. There were no noises c
... oming from the steering column, or warning lights associated with the defect. No smells associated with friction from parts rubbing together, either. Totally silent. I consulted the manual and no mention was made re: what was happening. It had advised to call an authorized dealer to have it inspected. A trip to the dealership confirmed that the steering gear assembly (a $5,000 part) had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealership did not make mention of this issue being common, or even having happened recently with a similar model/year. There is almost no power assistance coming through the steering, and I am worried about what could happen as a result. Perhaps the steering itself will become impossible? The dealer was uncertain as to whether it posed a greater issue or was just "an annoyance".Read more

The car will go dead. Had battery replaced at dealer on 5-28-22. 2 days later the car was dead and will not start. After messing with the negative cable where it’s connected to the chassis was able to start the car. After the car was running for about a minute the negative cable was very hot to th
... e touch. This has been an ongoing problem with this car. After see other recalls for this battery cable issue am afraid the car could die while driving it. Our VIN is not associated with any recall. We feel the car is unsafe to drive and can also leave was stranded.Read more

On two separate occasions, the rear door latch failed on this vehicle, resulting in the door opening unexpectedly while in motion. First incident, Left Rear Door, occurred Sept 17, 2020. The second incident, Right Rear door, happened May 15, 2021. Had anyone been sitting in the rear seats at that
... time, they would have been at risk of falling out of the vehicle. Both incidents were confirmed and repaired by the dealer. (see attached invoices) In both cases, the door stayed closed just enough such that the open door warning on the dash did not illuminate.Read more

ONE MONTH AFTER PURCHASING MY LAND ROVER DISCOVERY I NOTICED THERE WAS A LAG TIME WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE WHEN MAKING A TURN. ... Y SAID IT'S THE NATURE OF THE CAR. I TOLD THEM THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS AND THEY CLAIM THEY HAVEN'T RECEIVED ENOUGH COMPLAINTS TO SAY IT'S AN ISSUE WITH CAR. I ALSO HAVE HAD OTHER ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS SUCH AS THE NAVIGATION SCREEN GOING BLANK WHILE DRIVING OR NOT COMING ON AT ALL AND ALSO MY REMOTE KEY FOBS DO NOT WORK ALL THE TIME. EVEN WITH THE REMOTES IN MY HAND NEAR THE CONSOLE THE CAR WILL SAY THEY ARE NOT DETECTED. I BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY WERE FINE. TODAY, I RECEIVED A RECALL FROM LAND ROVER STATING THERE ARE VARIOUS ELECTRICAL ISSUES WITH CAR WHERE THE VEHICLE COULD CUT OUT WHILE IN MOTION AND MAY LOSE ALL ELECTRICAL POWER. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO FIND OUT THEY ARE BOOKED OUT FOR 3 WEEKS SO I WILL HAVE TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE THIS UNSAFE CAR. I THINK IT'S VERY IRRESPONSIBLE OF LAND ROVER TO PUT OWNERS IN A POSITION TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE A VERY UNSAFE CAR. THESE CARS SHOULD BE TAKEN OFF THE ROAD.Read more
