January 2022. The car was brought to dealership because the transmission was slipping in 3rd gear. Service light was on. On my way the problem fixed itself. I explained that it happened only in the extreme cold here in michigan. They documented for warranty. Said it may be due to clutch overheating on slippery roads. IT WAS NOT. The cars was not used for 2 winters as we were in Florida. Dec. 2025 it happened again and expressed my concerns that if this happened in traffic it could be dangerous. Both the dealership and Hyundai washed there hands of it even though I was assured that it would be covered and addressed it it happened again. The service light came on but the problem fixed itself . I do not believe this is a mechanical issue, it sure would have failed by now. Software/electronic.
Engine failure occurred on interstate. Car was jerking and smoke coming from the hood and exhaust while engine was giving out. Hyundai dealership confirmed something blew up within the engine and blew a hole out the side of it. Check engine light came on about 2 weeks prior notified Hyundai dealership as soon as this happened and they stated I had to wait 2 weeks to have the vehicle checked out.

The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid. The contact stated while at a complete stop at a red traffic light, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the power relay assembly (PRA) located underneath the rear seat had failed and needed to be replaced; however, the part was not available. The vehicle was not repaired, but the mechanic overrode the computer system. The mechanic related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V459000 (Hybrid Propulsion System). The contact stated that the VIN was previously included in the recall; however, the recall was marked as complete after the vehicle passed the inspection test. The contact stated while driving 20-25 MPH, the failure recurred. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where the contact was informed that the vehicle could not be repaired under the recall. The vehicle was then towed to a second dealer, Keyes Hyundai of Mission Hills(10240 Sepulveda Blvd, Mission Hills, CA 91345), where it was diagnosed that the power relay assembly (PRA) located underneath the rear seat and the 12-Volt battery had failed and needed to be replaced; however, the part was on backorder. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that a goodwill discount could be provided at the dealer's discretion. A case was filed. The contact stated that after the manufacturer contacted the dealer, the dealer doubled the cost of the repair and provided a goodwill discount. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The failure mileage was approximately 153,000.

I own a 2017 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid VIN: [XXX] that is covered under Recall 232 (NHTSA 22V-459) related to a defective Power Relay Assembly that poses a fire risk. I brought this issue to Hyundai 3 years ago and was told my vehicle was serviced. That turned out to be false. Recently, my car stalled on the road due to the exact electrical issue covered in Recall 232. I had it diagnosed by an independent mechanic, who confirmed it’s tied to the recall. I had the vehicle towed to a Hyundai dealership to have it repaired, but they: •Refused to prioritize the recall inspection •Attempted to charge me $230 for diagnostics •Told me it would take a week or more just to inspect the vehicle •Denied the urgency of the recall, despite the known fire hazard I informed the dealership service manager Tom Swire I was recording, and he still refused to put his denial in writing. I have the recording. Due to their refusal, I was forced to tow the vehicle to a second dealership at my own expense. Hyundai Corporate has opened a case file, but told me I must wait 2–3 days just to speak with a case manager despite this being a federally mandated safety recall tied to real-world safety fire risk. I am requesting NHTSA review this case and hold Hyundai and its dealership accountable for failing to honor Recall 232 within a reasonable and safe timeframe. I am also seeking reimbursement for towing and other out-of-pocket costs caused by their mishandling of this urgent safety issue. Unable for many time to get recall complete old recall was told not complete and now that i have an issue they are telling me it was done trans clutch . My car has been at the dealer for three months . It is at lafontaine hyuandi dearborn mi. The part i need to fix my engine /clutch has an indefinite date when it will be available. I had this same problem when my car was less than a year old with the drive shaft. I have been in contact with corporate Hyundai and the dealer we cannot get a hold of sometimes for a whole week. These engine problems have been a huge issue with Hyundai. The engine will suddenly slow down to 20s being a hazard risk. Dealers when i have tried to get recall wont do recall they say they only have one person who can do it. I have had recalls scheduled months out and then they cancel. The problem i am having directly relates to a closed recall per multiple mechanics. The recall caused oil to leak which is what dealer said happened . Please help!!

The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid. The contact stated while driving 20 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle lurched forward and then stalled. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the main power relay assembly had overheated, and the main power relay fuse was blown. The mechanic determined that the main power relay assembly and the fuse needed to be replaced. The mechanic determined that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V459000 (Hybrid Propulsion System). The vehicle was then towed to the dealer for the recall repair; however, the dealer informed the contact that the recall repair was not necessary, and that the picture of the main power relay part would be sent to the manufacturer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The manufacturer contacted the dealer regarding the recall repair. The dealer then informed the contact that the recall repair was performed per the manufacturer's instructions. The contact was later informed by the dealer that the recall repair had not been performed and only the picture of the main power relay part had been sent to the manufacturer. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that they had not received a proof of the service that the dealer had performed on the vehicle. The vehicle was towed back to the independent mechanic, where it was confirmed that the recall repair had not been performed on the vehicle. The mechanic informed the contact that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V459000 (Hybrid Propulsion System). The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that the failure had been progressing, and the vehicle had become undrivable. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed with a defective battery. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V704000 (Hybrid Propulsion System); however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure; however, no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000. The VIN was not available.
Integrated Brake Accuation Unit failed per dealer repair location. Codes indicated on attached repair invoice receipt. (Document is Uploaded). This was a very expensive repair. Per dealer service advisor and technician they had never seen this before. 2 brake lights on the dash indicated major brake failure. The vehicle was immediately taken to the dealer for repair. See additional details regarding concern, cause. correction, and parts replaced on invoice. If this had not been repaired immediately, this could have put others at risk and caused an accident. Although there are several internet references to brake problems with this model of Hundai Ioniq Hybrid, there are no recalls. The powertrain and engine are warrantied for 100K miles and the batteries have an original lifetime owner warranty. Due to the critical nature of a braking system, I believe braking systems on hybrids for this part should have a lifetime warranty. I want to make it clear that parts that wear out due to use for example brake pads, rotors, master cylinder etc. are not what I am referencing. Since the integrated brake accuation unit is a part commonly seen on hybrid products, I think this a part that warrants investigation and recall. This investigation may go beyond the Hyndai hybrid products. Due to the expense of the repair, I believe this repair could put the owners of all hybrid auto products at risk.
I brought my Hyundai on November 18, 2022 to Huntington Hyundai at 1221 E. Jericho Tpke., for service to take care of a recall. My paperwork from Huntington Hyundai shows that recall 232 was performed. But in 2023 I began plans to move to Canada and to import my Hyundai into Canada. The Canadian registrar of imported vehicles told me that according to recall records, there is an outstanding recall on the vehicle. Recall 232! I learned from visiting a dealer in Buffalo New York that not Huntington Hyundai never applied to Hyundai USA for reimbursement for work performed on recall 232. Huntington Hyundai failed to even perform the recall that they stated they performed.
I have received a couple of notices from Hyundai concerning a recall for my Hyundai. Here’s been my experience—called Motor World Hyundai (150 MotorWorld Dr Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702). I was told that they didn’t have any parts in but would call me when the parts are in. They insisted on getting my contact information and since have barraged me with sales calls, but no information on “the parts”. After a few weeks, my wife called again, they claimed they have no idea when parts will come in, this person did not ask her name, did not offer to check status, did not offer to call back. (by the way, we tried to buy a new Ioniq last year and while they kept asking us to “come in to test drive” (not sure what we were test driving because they said they didn’t have the car) So, no Ioniq purchase. Our next call was to Dickson City Hyundai, (1519 Scranton Carbondale Highway, Scranton, PA 18508). They indicated a lack of parts as well. We requested they order the parts. They indicated that they require that we go there first (about an hour away) to have the car inspected. If they determine that they should order the parts, then they’ll order them and we’ll have to come back to get them installed. So according to the recall letter, the situation is dangerous, we need a recall done, you’ve notified us more than once, but we apparently can’t get it done without a significant effort on our part. A Safety Recall has been issued on your 2017 Ioniq Hybrid/Plug-In Hybrid’s Power Relay Assembly (PRA). Recall 232 Remedy is Available This notice applies to your vehicle, VIN: KMHC05LC7HU030998 I tried to click on “make an appointment” and it goes to “Page can’t be found” So, I was so happy with my Hyundai I was going to buy another, no test drive, no shopping for other brands but no can do. Now I’m told that I need a recall, but no one is interested in doing it.
I was driving on the freeway when my car started smoking. Pulled over immediately and 30 seconds later the entire front of the car was engulfed in flames. I hadn’t received a second recall notice, but I did take it in the first time when a fire risk was mentioned.

The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid. The contact received recall notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V459000 (Hybrid Propulsion System). However, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time to complete the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
Hyundai has no date for remedy. Theres a remedy for same car but different vins. They told me our car was produced in a different manufacturer place so no remedy and they said it is what it is. It has almost been 30 days and I cant use the car for my business when this safety recall is out that was fixed in 2018.

DRIVING ON THE NORTHBOUND 3-LANE SECTION OF I-75, I MOVED FROM CENTER LANE WHERE I WAS BEHIND A HUGE SEMI TRUCK THAT BLOCKED VISION AHEAD, SO I MOVED INTO THE LEFT LANE WHEN ALL TRAFFIC HAD PASSED AND IT WAS CLEAR. THEN IMMEDIATELY AHEAD AT APPROXIMATELY 5 CAR LENGTHS FROM ME IN LEFT LANE, A LARGE SUV HAD STOPPED DEAD IN THAT LEFT LANE OF INTERSTATE ALONG WITH OTHER VEHICLES AHEAD OF HIM. THERE WAS NO SHOULDER AVAILABLE, JUST CONTINUOUS CONCRETE JERSEY RAIL, AND NO OPENING ON MY RIGHT TO GO TO. ALTHOUGH I SLAMMED ON MY BRAKES AND PRESSED THEM AS HARD AS POSSIBLE, MY 2017 HYUNDAI IONIC HYBRID CAR DID NOT STOP, ITS AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, THE SEAT BELT DID NOT LOCK LEAVING ENOUGH SLACK THAT MY CHIN AND CHEST SLAMMED INTO STEERING WHEEL AS I RAN INTO REAR OF THE STOPPED SUV CAUSING HIM TO RUN INTO SUV IN FRONT OF HIM. THEIR AIRBAGS DEPLOYED, MINE DID NOT. ALTHOUGH THE FAULT WAS ENTIRELY MINE IN TERMS OF STRIKING THE FIRST CAR, I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND WHY MY IONIQ DIDN'T STOP BETTER OR WHY MY AIRBAG DIDN'T PREVENT ME FROM STRIKING THE STEERING WHEEL. I DID TELL THE HIGHWAY PATROL OFFICER THAT I HAD STRUCK MY CHEST AND CHIN QUITE HARD ON THE STEERING WHEEL, BUT HAD NO EXTERNAL INJURIES. THE UPSET AND REGRET OVER THE INCIDENT WAS ENOUGH TO PUT THOSE QUESTIONS OUT OF MY MIND FOR THE LAST TWO DAYS, UNTIL TODAY FRIDAY 6/21/19 WHEN I WENT TO THE AUTO COLLISION REPAIR CENTER AND SPOKE TO THE MANAGER. HE TOLD ME THAT I SHOULD REPORT THE SITUATION WITH THE SEAT BELT, AIRBAG AND ABS BRAKES NOT PERFORMING AS THEY SHOULD, AND MAKE HYUNDAI AWARE OF IT AS WELL, AND HE PROVIDED ME THE NHTSA INFORMATION. I ALSO TEXTED THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP WHERE I LEASED THIS VEHICLE TO ADVISE HIM OF WHAT HAPPENED. HE HAS NOT YET RESPONDED. THUS THIS REPORT.

HAD REQUIRED RECALL (#178) FOR A PRA TO BE REPLACED PERFORMED 4/6/19, UPON DRIVING IT NOTICED ELECTRONIC, ACID SMELL THAT WENT AWAY. TODAY (4/7/19), UPON DRIVING IT, THE CAR'S CABIN FILLED WITH SMOKE THAT WAS COMING FROM THE REAR SEAT. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER, SHUT THE CAR OFF, REMOVED AS MUCH ITEMS FROM THE CAR AS POSSIBLE AND CALLED MY WIFE, 2 MILES DOWN THE ROAD AT HOME TO BRING A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. UPON HER ARRIVING ROUGHLY 5 MINS LATER, FLAMES BEGAN EMERGING FROM THE BACKSEAT, WHICH I QUICKLY EXTINGUISHED AND PROCEEDED TO CALL 9-1-1. UPON THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVING, FLAMES WERE STILL EMERGING AND STILL SMOKING UNTIL THEY WERE ABLE TO DOUSE IT WITH WATER, FLAME RETARDANT, AND ALSO DISCONNECT THE BATTERIES TO PREVENT FUTURE DAMAGE. THE CAR WAS EVENTUALLY TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND NOW AWAITING.

AT LEAST 5 TIMES ACROSS MULTIPLE DAYS AND THROUGH MULTIPLE TECHNOLOGIES, WE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AT 4960 NORTH, FL-7, COCONUT CREEK, FL 33073 (COCOUNUT CREEK HYUNDAI) WHERE WE ORIGINALLY PURCHASED THE CAR. THEY REFUSED TO RESPOND TO US AND SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT. NEVERTHELESS, WE STILL VISITED PHYSICALLY IN PERSON ON 3/16. AFTER KEEPING OUR CAR FOR NEARLY 8 HOURS THEY CLAIMED NO TECHNICIAN WAS AVAILABLE TO REPAIR OUR CAR THAT DAY! THEY NEVER AGREED TO SCHEDULE THE LEGALLY REQUIRED REPAIRS AS WE REQUESTED MANY TIMES IN ADVANCE AND EVEN HELD OUR CAR HOSTAGE AND REFUSED TO REPAIR IT! THEY HAVE VIOLATED THE LAW AND PUT OUR LIVES AT RISK. THEY MUST BE PUNISHED AND WE MUST BE COMPENSATED FOR THIS BARBARIC TREATMENT AT THE HANDS OF HYUNDAI. OUR CAR IS STILL AT RISK OF EXPLOSION AND HYUNDAI REFUSES TO FIX IT.

FRONT AXLE HAD TO BE BROUGHT INTO SHOP 4X, MAKING NOISE, BEFORE 4TH VISIT AXLE CRACKED IN HALF DEALER REPLACED IF YOU CALL WILL NEED KOREAN INTERPRETER TELEPHONE PROVIDED IS ATTORNEY EILEEN SIMON SHE HAS INFORMATION
DUE TO SEVERE FRONT WINDSHIELD GLARE, I AM UNABLE TO CLEARLY SEE APPROACHING TRAFFIC, VEHICLES PREPARING TO TURN LEFT/RIGHT AT INTERSECTIONS, AND PEDESTRIANS STANDING ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD OR IN A CROSS WALK.ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS, I HAVE HAD TO STOP THE CAR QUICKLY TO AVOID COLLISION WITH ONCOMING VEHICLES AND PEDESTRIANS.THIS HAZARD IS PRESENT UNDER BOTH SUNNY AND CLOUDY ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS (PHOTOS ATTACHED).THE ONGOING OCCURRENCE OF EXTREME GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD APPEARS TO EMANATE FROM THE LIGHT COLORED DASHBOARD AND PRESENTS A DANGEROUS SAFETY HAZARD WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION AS WELL AS WHEN STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION. TO DATE, I HAVE REPORTED THIS ISSUE TO: 1) ON 10/13/17 AND 10/19/17 TO HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP: JEFF REEB, GENERAL MANAGER, FRED BEANS HYUNDAI-GENESIS, DOYLESTOWN, PA 18902, (215) 345-8200. I WAS INFORMED THAT THIS ISSUE WAS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY SINCE IT WAS NOT A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND I WOULD HAVE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM AT MY OWN EXPENSE. 2) ON 10/30/17 TO HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA: OMAR, REGIONAL CONSUMER AFFAIRS, (714) 887-2537, HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA. I RECEIVED A WRITTEN DETERMINATION LETTER INDICATING THE HYUNDAI DENIED MY CLAIM #10724458. PER THAT DETERMINATION LETTER AND MY RIGHTS TO CONTEST THAT DETERMINATION, I PROVIDED THEM A DEALER INVOICE DOCUMENTING EXTREME GLARE, PHOTOS OF EXTREME GLARE, AS WELL AS THE ADDRESS OF ONE OF THE MANY WEBSITES/BLOGS REPORTING GLARE ON HYUNDAI VEHICLES. AGAIN, IN APRIL, 2018, I RECEIVED A VERBAL FINAL DETERMINATION THAT HYUNDAI WILL TAKE NO CORRECTIVE ACTION TO REMEDY THIS SAFETY HAZARD. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE OPERATING THIS VEHICLE. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT HYUNDAI TAKE CORRECTIVE ACTIONS IMMEDIATELY FOR MY VEHICLE, AS WELL AS CORRECT THIS DESIGN FLAW BEFORE HUMAN INJURIES AND/OR FATALITIES OCCUR. I WOULD BE HAPPY TO PROVIDE MORE DETAIL, AS NEEDED. THANK YOU.
I ACCIDENTALLY BACKED INTO A CONCRETE BARRIER PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT. I PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE, INTENDED TO PULL BACK INTO MY SPOT, TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND THE CAR ACCELERATED SO QUICKLY THAT I CRASHED INTO A FORD TRUCK 2-3' IN FRONT OF ME. THE ACCELERATION WAS SO QUICK, AND THE IMPACT SO STRONG, I FELT LIKE I WAS IN A ROCKET SHIP AND MY LICENSE PLATE WAS IMPALED ON THE TRUCK. THIS WAS THE THIRD TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN OCTOBER 2017. THE FIRST TIME, I WAS PARKING IN MY GARAGE. I WAS SLOWLY MOVING MY WAY IN WHEN THE CAR ACCELERATED. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO STOP BEFORE HITTING THE INTERIOR BACK WALL. THE SECOND TIME, I WAS IN A PARKING LOT DROPPING MY NIECE OFF AT A SCHOOL FUNCTION. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK WHILE SHE JUMPED OUT, PLACED IT IN DRIVE TO PULL AWAY, AND IT ACCELERATED QUICKLY TOWARDS ANOTHER CAR. I APPLIED THE BRAKE AND THE CAR STOPPED BUT MADE LOUD SOUNDS LIKE I HAD SKIDDED TO A STOP. IT STARTLED AND CAUGHT THE ATTENTION OF TWO ADULTS IN THE PARKING LOT. MY PASSENGER WAS MY SISTER AND SHE ASKED, 'WHAT WAS THAT?'. ALL THREE INCIDENTS OCCURRED WHILE PARKING, PUTTING THE CAR INTO DRIVE, AND TAKING MY FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE. AT NO TIME DID MY FOOT TOUCH THE ACCELERATOR. IRONICALLY, AFTER THE FIRST TWO INCIDENCES, I WAS GOING TO SEE IF THE VEHICLE DID IT ONE MORE TIME. IF IT DID, I WAS GOING TO CONTACT HYUNDAI RIGHT AWAY. UNFORTUNATELY, THE LAST TIME RESULTED IN TODAY'S CRASH AND CAUSED DAMAGE TO TWO VEHICLES. AFTER TODAY'S INCIDENT I RESEARCHED THE ISSUE AND FOUND THE PROBLEM IS NOT UNIQUE TO MY MODEL. IT SEEMS THAT MANY HYUNDAI MODELS HAVE EXPERIENCED UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. TO SAY I'M DISAPPOINTED, IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT. I LOVE MY IONIQ, AND THE GAS MILEAGE IT BRINGS. BUT I CAN NO LONGER TRUST IT WITH MY LIFE, THE LIFE OF FAMILY MEMBERS, OR OTHER MOTORISTS. I AM LOOKING FOR A RESOLUTION FROM HYUNDAI.
Crash
AS I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, MY VEHICLE JERKED A COUPLE OF TIMES AND WAS SPEEDING UP AND SLOWING DOWN BY ITSELF. AS I WAS DRIVING THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED AND DID NOT GO AWAY AT ALL. ALTHOUGH, MY CAR WAS ACCELERATING AND SLOWING DOWN BY ITSELF, IT WAS STRUGGLING TO GO PAST 20MPH. WHEN I GOT HOME AND PARKED MY CAR, I WAS UNABLE TO REVERSE MY CAR, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS IN REVERSE. LUCKILY, THERE WAS NO ONE BEHIND ME OR IN FRONT OF ME OR ELSE I'M SURE THERE WOULD'VE BEEN A CRASH. ON TOP OF THIS, THE CAR HAS ONLY 1700MILES ON IT AND WAS BARELY 3MONTHS OLD AND THIS PROBLEM APPEARED, I'M SUPER DISAPPOINTED AND THE COMPANY HASN'T EVEN TOLD ME WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR YET.
