ISUZU IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 1998-2002 ISUZU RODEO AND MODEL YEAR 2002 ISUZU AXIOM VEHICLES, AND HONDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN 1998-2002 HONDA PASSPORT VEHICLES, THAT WERE ORIGINALLY SOLD, OR ARE CURRENTLY REGISTERED, IN THE STATES OF MAINE, NEW HAMPSHIRE, VERMONT, MASSACHUSETTS, RHODE ISLAND, CONNECTICUT, NEW YORK, NEW JERSEY, PENNSYLVANIA, DELAWARE, MARYLAND, THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, WEST VIRGINIA, OHIO, INDIANA, MICHIGAN, ILLINOIS, WISCONSIN, MINNESOTA, IOWA, MISSOURI, AND KENTUCKY. VEHICLES THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED SUSTAINED EXPOSURE TO HIGHLY CORROSIVE MATERIALS USED IN SOME JURISDICTIONS FOR ROAD DEICING PURPOSES MAY EXPERIENCE EXCESSIVE CORROSION IN THE VICINITY OF THE FORWARD MOUNTING POINT BRACKET FOR THE LEFT OR RIGHT REAR SUSPENSION LOWER LINK PRIOR TO THE TIME THAT SUCH CORROSION WOULD NORMALLY BE EXPECTED.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE REAR SUSPENSION LOWER LINK BRACKET AREA. FOR VEHICLES IN WHICH LITTLE OR NO CORROSION IS FOUND, THE AREA WILL BE TREATED WITH AN ANTI-CORROSIVE COMPOUND. FOR VEHICLES IN WHICH CORROSION HAS DAMAGED THE REAR SUSPENSION LOWER LINK BRACKET AND AFFECTED ITS CONNECTION TO THE VEHICLE FRAME, A REINFORCEMENT BRACKET WILL BE INSTALLED. IN THE RARE EVENT THE CORROSION IS SO SEVERE THAT THE REINFORCEMENT BRACKET REMEDY WOULD NOT BE APPROPRIATE, A REPURCHASE OFFER WILL BE EXTENDED TO THE VEHICLE'S OWNER. ALL INSPECTIONS AND REMEDIES WILL BE PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE FOR VEHICLES THAT ARE 10 YEARS OLD OR LESS. FOR VEHICLES OLDER THAN 10 YEARS, ISUZU WILL OFFER A FREE REMEDY, BUT ONLY IF THE VEHICLE IS PRESENTED TO AN ISUZU SERVICE FACILITY, OR HONDA DEALER (AS APPLICABLE), DEALER WITHIN 12 MONTHS OF WHEN OWNER NOTIFICATIONS WERE ISSUED. my frame was rusted throughout at 130k miles the car's rear trail arm mount on the frame detached and almost caused me to run into on by traffic numerous times at 25 mph. only once I stopped to pick up my sons from school the car's rear trail arm detached completely from the frame, I had deemed it undrivable and called for someone to come by and tow it back home. on my own further inspection, I noticed an absurd amount of rust in the rear left side, and holes in the frame. as well as I said the rear trail arm detached from the frame.

I NOTICED THAT MY 1999 HONDA PASSPORT HAD A RECALL FOR THE SUSPENSION. I CALLED THE DEALER HERE IN LEXINGTON KY DON JACOBS AND SET UP AN APPOINTMENT. THE DAY BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT I CALLED TO VERIFY THAT THEY HAD THE PARTS THAT WAS NEEDED AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT FIX MY VEHICLE BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT GET THE PARTS OR TOOLS TO REPAIR MY VEHICLE.

MY PASSPORT HAS ISSUES WITH REAR AXELS AND SUSPENSION/BOLTS. ALSO ONE DAY WHEN IT HAD BEEN RAINING I APPLIED MY BREAKS TO STOP FOR A RED TRAFFIC LIGHT AND THE CAR WENT RIGHT THROUGH THE LIGHT. THE OTHER TIMES I HAVE HAD TO PUMP THE BREAKS TO GET CAR TO STOP AND IT MADE AN AWFUL NOISE. MY BIGGEST FEAR IS THAT I WILL BE DRIVING THE CAR AND THE REAR SUSPENSION/SUPPORT IS GOING TO FALL APART. A GENTLEMAN WHOSE WIFE WAS DRIVIND A PASSPORT SAID THAT HER CARS FRONT WHEEL FELL OFF. SHE DID NOT HAVE AN ACCIDENT AS SHE WAS BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. NONE OF THE RECALLS SEEM TO HAVE BEEN DONE TO THIS CAR AND I DO NOT KNOW WHERE TO TURN. I AM 71 YEARS OLD AND I DRIVE MY GREAT GRANDCHILDREN AROUND OCCASIONALLY. I ALSO PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION FOR ELDERLY PERSONS IN THE COMMUNITY. I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHERE TO GO TO GET THIS FIXED OR BOUGHT BACK. THE REAR TRAILING ARM HAS BROKEN AWAY FROM SEVERE FRAME RUST. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM IN 2010 BUT IT ONLY RECALLED CARS FROM THE NORTHEASTERN STATES. THIS CAR WAS NOT RECALLED EVEN THOUGH IT IS AND HAS BEEN IN ALASKA. I BELIEVE THE ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS HERE ARE JUST AS SEVERE AS THE NORTHEASTERN STATES AND THE RECALL SHOULD EXTEND HERE ALSO.

THIS IS THE 2ND TIME IN LESS THAN 6 MONTHS THAT THE FLYWHEEL HAS SEPARATED, WITH CENTER PART STAYING ATTACHED TO MOTOR. I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO GET OFF THE ROAD BEFORE BEING HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CENTER PART OF THE FLYWHEEL IS STAYING ATTACHED TO THE ENGINE; WHILE THE OUTER PART IS SEPARATING. ALL TEETH ON THE FLYWHEEL ARE STILL INTACT. THEREFORE I HAVE TWO PARTS, ONE CIRCLING THE OTHER. ENGINE STOPS DEAD IMMEDIATELY WHEN THEY SEPARATE. THIS IS A $300 OR MORE PART. IT WAS JUST REPLACED LESS THAN 3 MONTHS AGO AND NOW IT HAS DONE IT AGAIN. THERE IS NO LISTED RECALL. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN, ESPECIALLY SINCE THE EVERYTHING STOPS WHEN THIS SEPARATION OCCURS. THIS CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN SOLELY ON OAHU, SO THERE IS NO ISSUE OF DEICER OR ROAD SALT HAVING CAUSED THIS, AND I LIVE MILES FROM THE OCEAN. THE GAPING HOLE IS GROWING AND THIS PROBLEM MAY BE A SAFETY HAZARD AND IT MAKES THE CAR IMPOSSIBLE TO SELL, WHICH IS SOMETHING I'D INTENDED TO DO SOON, AS MY GIRLFRIEND WILL ALSO START DRIVING "OUR" VEHICLE AND SHE'S UNCOMFORTABLE WITH A LARGER CAR. THEY CUT OUT ALL OF THE RUSTED FRAME AREAS ON THE REAR DRIVER SIDE AND MADE A NEW END FOR THE LOWER LINK BRACKET. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER BECAME CLOGGED AND RUINED THE ENGINE. THE FRONT AXLES WERE REPLACED TWICE. THE VEHICLE HAD AN OIL LEAK AND TRANSMISSION LEAK. UPDATED 04/23/13

WELL IN JULY 2012 I WAS DRIVING MY HONDA WHEN I HEARD NOISE (SOUNDED LIKE A MUFFLER LEAK) HIT A SMALL DIP IN THE ROAD THEN A POP AND THEN LOUD NOISE COMING FROM ENGINE. AFTER DOING RESEARCH ONLINE I FOUND OUT A RECALL FOR A SUSPENSION BRACKET EXPIRED. HE NOTIFIED ME THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND RECOMMENDED GETTING RID OF IT. I TOLD HIM I COULD NOT BECAUSE I HAD PURCHASED THE VEHICLE A YEAR AGO AND STILL OWED MONEY ON IT. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE CORROSION OF THE LOWER TRAILING LINK FRAME BRACKETS. THE RECALL WAS DONE ON 9/13/2011. WE TOOK THE SUV TO OUR MECHANIC TO HAVE NEW TIRES INSTALLED AND HE INFORMED US THAT THE BRACKET THAT HOLDS THE SPRING WAS GONE AND THE OTHER ONE WAS GOING DUE TO CORROSION. S10 APPROPRIATE HANDLING-LETTER TO THE SECRETARY FROM EXPRESSING CONCERNS REGARDING THE SAFETY OF THE 1988-2002 HONDA PASSPORTS. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED HIS DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE, WHEN SUDDENLY, SHE COULD NO LONGER CONTROL IT. SHE WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO A REPAIR FACILITY. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS PLACED ON THE RACK, IT WAS DISCOVERED THE STRUTS HAD DETACHED FROM THE FROM FRAME WHICH HAD RUSTED OUT. THE CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS EXAMINED BY THEIR BODY SHOP. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE FRAME WAS COMPLETELY UNREPAIRABLE AND IT WOULD COST MORE TO FIX IT THAN THE VEHICLE WAS WORTH. THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN DECEMBER 2010 REGARDING THE RUST PROBLEM AFTER HE HAD ALREADY TAKEN IT TO A JUNKYARD. *JB

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS TEST DRIVEN AND THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE FRONT FRAME STRUT WAS CORRODED AND CAUSING FRAME TO FAIL. FRAME HAS NOW RUSTED THROUGH ON FAKE HONDA PASSPORT, ACTUALLY WE FIND OUT IT IS ISUZU RODEO THAT HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT A MONEY PIT FOR THE LAST FIVE YEARS! IE: EXCESS OIL USAGE, TRANSMISSION TROUBLES, FUEL SENSOR ERRATIC, BRAKES GO OUT FAST, AND MANY OTHER THINGS. HOWEVER, ISUZU AND HONDA HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM SINCE 1998 AND HAVE BEEN LETTING OVER 200,000 OF DRIVE AROUND IN A VERY UNSAFE VEHICLE! MY DEALER JUST LOOKED AT IT LAST YEAR AND NOW IT IS STAGE 4 CANNOT BE REPAIRED AND THEY ARE REPAIRING SOME THAT SHOULDN'T BE. I HAVE RECENTLY IN VESTED A LOT OF MONEY IN A VEHICLE THAT SHOULD BE DECLARED UNSAFE AT ANY SPEED AND THE OWNERS SHOULD BE COMPENSATED WITH TREBLE DAMAGES BY HONDA AND ISUZU ASAP!!!!!

THE PROBLEM WITH 1999 HONDA PASSPORT VEHICLE IS DUE ENTIRELY TO FAULTY MATERIALS SELECTION AND/OR WORKMANSHIP ON HONDA'S PART. HONDA MADE AN UNREASONABLE, UNFAIR OFFER TO BUY THE CAR BACK, AND OUTRAGEOUS TO EXPECT ME AND MY FAMILY TO SUFFER A FINANCIAL BURDEN DUE TO A MATERIALS AND WORKMANSHIP PROBLEM CAUSED BY HONDA WHICH IS NON OF MY FAULT AT ALL. HONDA ACKNOWLEDGES TO FIX THIS ISSUE BUT HAS FAILED TO FIX AND DOES NOT COMPENSATE FAIRLY FOR REPLACEMENT VEHICLE OR EVEN DOWN PAYMENT ON A SIMILAR PERFORMING VEHICLE. *LN
