SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:DISC:CALIPER
Harley-Davidson Motor Company (Harley-Davidson) is recalling certain 2016-2019 Street 500 (XG500), Street 750 (XG750), and 2017-2019 Street 750A (XG750A) motorcycles. The brake calipers may corrode internally after exposure to certain driving environments such as coastal regions or road salt, resulting in increased brake drag.
Remedy: Harley-Davidson has notified owners, and dealers will install new front and rear brake calipers, free of charge. The recall began April 9, 2019. Owners may contact Harley-Davidson customer service at 1-800-258-2464. Harley-Davidson's number for this recall is 0174.

THE CONTACT CALLED VISALIA HARLEY-DAVIDSON AT 559-733-4647 (LOCATED AT 30681 N HIGHWAY 99, VISALIA, CA 93291) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE PART WAS BACKORDERED. THE CONTACT WAS NOT CALLED BACK. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
MY SON DRIVING THIS MOTORCYCLE WAS CUT OFF BY ANOTHER DRIVER. THE REAR BRAKES APPEARED TO HAVE LOCKED UP. THIS RESULTED IN A FATALITY- MY SON WAS KILLED. WE JUST GOT NOTICE THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS BRAKE ISSUE AND THERE IS NO REPAIR AVAILABLE.

THE DEALER (HIGH DESERT HARLEY-DAVIDSON, 2310 E CINEMA DR, MERIDIAN, IDAHO) STATED THAT THE PARTS WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
MY STREET 750 HAD FUEL PUMP ISSUES, CULMINATING WITH A FAILURE TO START UNLESS THE THROTTLE WAS HELD WIDE OPEN, AND WHEN RUNNING, THE ENGINE WOULD SURGE AND DROP IN POWER UNPREDICTABLY. HARLEY'S SERVICE DEPT STATES THAT THE ISSUE IS WITH THE FUEL PUMP. THIS IS INSANE, CONSIDERING THE BIKE HAS LESS THAN 400 MILES ON IT. THE BIKE SUFFERED THESE ISSUES WHEN STARTING, IDLING, AND IN MOTION, ON A CITY STREET. THIS SEEMS TO BE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AS WAS ADDRESSED IN THE 2015 RECALL OF THE SAME BIKE, WHERE THE FUEL PUMPS WERE CAUSING ENGINE SURGES AND LOSS OF POWER. I AM SUBMITTING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE IT SEEMS TO HAVE NOT BEEN ADDRESSED IN LATER YEAR BIKES.
