Harley-Davidson Motor Company (Harley-Davidson) is recalling certain model year 2015 XG500 motorcycles manufactured January 20, 2014, to July 7, 2015, and XG750 motorcycles manufactured May 12, 2014, to July 7, 2015. The fuel pump modules on these motorcycles have a poor seal at the fuel pump inlet.
Remedy: Harley-Davidson will notify owners, and dealers will install a new fuel pump assembly, free of charge. The recall began on August 21, 2015. Owners may contact Harley-Davidson customer service at 1-414-343-4056. Harley-Davidson's number for this recall is 0167.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY:FILLER PIPE AND CAP
Harley-Davidson Motor Company (Harley-Davidson) is recalling certain model year 2015 XG500 and XG750 motorcycles manufactured June 11, 2014, to August 14, 2014. The fuel tank filler neck may be insufficiently flat, preventing the fuel cap from sealing properly.
Remedy: Harley-Davidson will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the motorcycle and test to see if fuel can leak from under the fuel cap. Any motorcycle that leaks fuel from under the fuel cap will have its gas tanked replaced, free of charge. The recall began in late September 2014. Owners may contact Harley-Davidson customer service at 1-800-258-2464. Harley-Davidson's number for this recall is 0161.

My Street 750 has 11,800 miles. While riding at 65 mph, sudden loss of drive. Pulled over to notice the motorcycle's belt missing and debris on the belt guide and the back wheel. The bolt holding the front sprocket was out of place and made a hole in the cover. The front sprocket was out of place. I was able to walk back my path and found the belt shredded.

I RECENTLY BOUGHT A 2015 HARLEY DAVIDSON XG750 FROM A DEALERSHIP. I'VE RIDDEN THE BIKE FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS AND THE REAR BRAKES WENT OUT. THE MAINTENANCE WAS CURRENT THROUGH THE HARLEY DAVIDSON DEALERSHIP, BUT AFTER A 30 MIN RIDE, THE REAR BRAKES WENT FROM SOGGY TO NIL.

I COMPLAINED ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE OF THE BIKE AND THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT I HAD TO JUST BREAK IT IN. I HAD OTHER PERSONS RIDE IT AND TOLD ME THAT PERHAPS IT WAS THE THROTTLE AND OR FUEL INJECTOR. I CALLED AND COMPLAINED AGAIN AND THEY SAID THAT I NEEDED TO JUST RIDE IT MORE AND GET USE TO IT. I SAID IT WAS LOSING POWER AND MAYBE THE INJECTOR WAS CLOGGED. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO THEN SAID THAT BECAUSE IT'S UNDER A WARRANTY AND THE FUEL INJECTOR IS COMPUTERIZED THAT THE BIKE SHOULD BE LOOKED AT BY THE DEALER. I CALLED THE DEALER AGAIN AND EXPLAINED TO THE TECH WHAT I WAS TOLD. HE SAID WE WILL MAKE SOME ADJUSTMENTS AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS. HE SAID I CAN HAVE A TRAILER PICK IT UP AT MY COST OF $50 OR SO EACH WAY. UNFORTUNATELY, WORK GOT IN THE WAY AND COULD NOT TAKE IT. THE NEXT SEASON IN 2017 I HAD THE SAME ISSUE EXPECT THIS TIME IT CAUSED MY ACCIDENT. THIS PROPELLING OF FUEL ALL AT ONCE TO MY BIKE ALMOST KILLED ME AND INJURED ME SEVERELY. THE FUEL GAUGE WENT ON AS I WAS ROLLING TO A STOP AND CONTINUED THROUGH IN FIRST OR SECOND GEAR AND THEN SUDDENLY THE BIKE BOGGED DOWN AND ACCELERATED ALMOST ON IT'S WITH SUCH INTENSITY I LOST CONTROL. HIT FRONT AND BACK BREAK BUT BACK FAILED TO ENGAGE ENOUGH TO KEEP ME STRAIGHT ENDED UP LIFTING BACK TIRE AND FLYING OVER HANDLE BARS.

UPON CONTACTING MY LOCAL DEALER WHERE PURCHASED I WAS TOLD THAT HUMIDITY COULD WEAKEN THE BOLT AND CAUSE FAILURE. THIS WAS FEB 27 @ 1330. WAS TOLD I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR DIAGNOSTICS AND REPAIR. I'M SURPRISED THAT HUMIDITY COULD BE BLAMED FOR FAILURE, AND THEN HAVE TO PAY FOR REPAIR. I OPTED TO REMOVE BROKEN BOLT ON OWN WITH BASIC TOOLS PREVIOUSLY . DID NOT WANT TO ASSIST IN WORKING WITH MAIN MANUFACTURER OR INVESTIGATE THE MULTIPLE FAILURES.

WHILE RIDING AT LOW SPEED ON CITY STREETS, THE STEERING FELT UNUSUALLY TIGHT. UPON ARRIVING HOME, I LIFTED THE FRONT WHEEL OFF OF THE GROUND AND CONFIRMED THAT SOMETHING WAS BINDING IN THE STEERING HEAD, CAUSING INCREASED STEERING EFFORT AND A "NOTCHY" FEELING. I DEEMED THE MOTORCYCLE UNSAFE TO RIDE. SEVERAL DAYS LATER, I DISASSEMBLED THE STEERING HEAD ASSEMBLY TO INSPECT THE BEARINGS AND FOUND EVIDENCE OF WATER INTRUSION. I FOUND THE UPPER BEARING SLIGHTLY RUSTED AND THE LOWER BEARING SUBSTANTIALLY RUSTED, AND DETERMINED THE RUSTED BEARINGS TO BE THE CAUSE OF THE BINDING. WHILE DISASSEMBLING THE MOTORCYCLE, I DISCOVERED THAT ONE FRONT WHEEL BEARING FELT ROUGH. UPON REMOVING AND DISASSEMBLING THE DEFECTIVE WHEEL BEARING, I FOUND IT TO BE RUSTED INTERNALLY. THIS MOTORCYCLE IS THREE YEARS OLD AND HAS ONLY 2,356 MILES ON THE ODOMETER, AND IT REQUIRES NEW STEERING HEAD BEARINGS AND FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS.

2015 HARLEY DAVIDSON XG 750. PROBLEM WITH NEUTRAL LIGHT FLASHING. WHILE IN NEUTRAL. DEALER REPLACED NEUTRAL SWITCH. NOW THE LIGHT IS INOPERATIVE. OTHER HARLEY DEALERS INFORMED ME THAT THEY HAVE SEEN THE LIGHT FLASH WHILE IN DRIVE GEARS. ALSO MY TRANSMISSION HAS DEVELOPED A CHATTER WHILE SHIFTING WHEN FULLY WARMED UP. HAS BEEN AT DEALER FOR 2 WEEKS.

THE HARLEY-DAVIDSON STREET 750 HAS BRAKE FAILURES. THE FAILURES ARE SYSTEMIC TO THE REAR BRAKE CYLINDER CAUSING. I HAVE ACTUALLY HAVE THE LINKAGE BRAKE OFF BECAUSE OF NO THREAD LOCK BUT THE REAR BRAKE JUST SLIDES OVER THE ROTOR AND NEVER STOP THE BIKE ON IT OWN. HD SOLUTION IS TO INSTALL THE SAME DEFECTIVE PART. BIKE NEEDS A RECALL. BELOW IS INDEPENDENT TEST DOCUMENTING THE FAILURES. I BELIEVE THAT THERE MAY BE POOR VIBRATIONAL DESIGN OR QUALITY CONTROL FOR THE LEFT FOOT SHIFTER LINKAGE THAT CONNECTS TO THE TRANSMISSION. I WAS GOING UPHILL AND NOTICED THE BIKE LOSE SPEED WHEN SHIFTING TO 4TH AND 5TH GEAR. AFTER A COUPLE OF HILLS, AS I WAS GOING DOWNHILL THE SHIFTER WOULD NOT DOWNSHIFT. I PULLED OVER AND SAW THAT THE BOLT WAS ALMOST OUT OF THE SHIFTER LINKAGE AND THAT THE FASTENERS WERE NOWHERE TO BE FOUND. POSSIBLY POORLY TORQUED OR NOT ENOUGH VIBRATIONAL PROTECTION. HAPPENED AROUND 70 MILES ON BIKE. BIKE IS BEING TRANSPORTED TO SHOP TOMORROW

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 HARLEY-DAVIDSON XG750. WHILE DRIVING AT 5 MPH, THE MOTORCYCLE PERFORMED AS IF IT WOULD STALL. THE VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY ACCELERATED AND CAUSED THE CONTACT TO LOSE CONTROL AND CRASH INTO A CEMENT MEDIAN. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE LEFT FOREARM AND LEFT LEG, A CONTUSION TO THE RIGHT SHIN AND KNUCKLE, AND LEFT WRIST DISLOCATION THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE MOTORCYCLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AFTER THE CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 826.

WE PURCHASED A 2015 STREET 750. AFTER TWO MONTHS OF RIDING (ABOUT 100 MILES), WE DISCOVERED SEVERAL SAFETY ISSUES THAT HAD BECOME APPARENT ONLY AFTER THROUGH ACTUAL RIDE TIME ON THE BIKE. I FIRST CALLED HD IN MILWAUKEE, WE SPOKE TO CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE, DAVID, EXPLAINING OUR CONCERNS. I WAS GIVEN THE REFERENCE NUMBER 2506596. WE WERE SUBSEQUENTLY TOLD TO TAKE THE BIKE TO THE HD DEALER. THE LIST OF ISSUES WERE AS FOLLOWS: 1.FRONT CYLINDER & FINS ARE PRACTICALLY TOUCHING RIDER?S LEGS AND ARE EXTREMELY HOT & DANGEROUS, EMITTING TREMENDOUS HEAT. THIS IS A MAJOR CONCERN AS THE EXTREME HEAT CAUSES CONSTANT SHIFTING AND/OR MOVEMENT OF THE LEGS, THEREBY IMPACTING CONTROL OF THE BIKE AND CAUSING A SAFETY FACTOR. 2.THE STOCK MIRRORS DO NOT GIVE THE RIDER A CLEAR FIELD OF VISION DIRECTLY BEHIND HIM, AGAIN IMPACTING DRIVER SAFETY. 3.THE ALL-BLACK BIKE HAS NO RUNNING LIGHTS. THE BIKE IS PRACTICALLY INVISIBLE UNDER LOW LIGHT CONDITIONS, I.E. NIGHT TIME RUNNING, RIDING IN RURAL LOCALES, ETC. AGAIN A SAFETY FACTOR. AT THE HD DEALERSHIP I ASKED IF THEY HAD ADDRESSED THE SAFETY CONCERNS. THEY STATED THE BIKE WAS "LEGAL" AND THEY REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE ANY ISSUES. I WAS ALSO TOLD THE FOLLOWING: ?IF WE WANT SAFE LIGHTING WE WOULD HAVE TO PURCHASE EXTRA LIGHTING AND PAY TO HAVE IT INSTALLED. ?IF WE WANT NOT BE BURNED BECAUSE OF HEAT FROM A CYLINDER HEAD TOO CLOSE TO A RIDER?S LEG, WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE LUXURY OF SUCH SAFETY. ?IF WE WANT TO HAVE SAFE MIRRORS, WE HAVE TO BUY THEM. P.S. EXTRA LIGHTING FEATURES & HEAT DEFLECTORS, & LONER -STEMMED MIRRORS, WEREN?T AVAILABLE FOR THE 750 STREET AT THIS WRITING. BUT EVEN IF THEY WERE, WHY WOULD THE CONSUMER HAVE TO INSTALL ITEMS THAT SHOULD BE AN OBVIOUS REQUIRED SAFETY FEATURE? WHY IS IT THAT PEOLE HAVE TO DIE FIRST BEFORE MANUFACTURERS TAKE ACTION?

AFTER ABOUT 100 MILES ON TANK OF GAS THE BIKE STARTED TO BUCK FROM TAKE OFF AND UNTIL SECOND GEAR WAS APPLIED. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AROUND THE SAME AMOUNT OF MILEAGE AND FUEL LIGHT WAS NOT ON EITHER TIME. WHEN FILL UP WITH GAS IT ONLY TAKES 2 GALLONS AT MOST MEANING STILL HAD 1.5 GALLONS LEFT.

AT ABOUT 70 MILES ON A FULL TANK OF GAS, MY XG750, WHEN STOPPING AND GOING IT FELT AS THOUGH IT HAD NO POWER AND THEN SURGED. THIS HAPPENED EVERYTIME I STOPPED AND WOULD GO. THE FUEL LIGHT WOULD FLICKER ON AND OFF BUT WOULD GO OUT ONCE IT STOPPED SURGING. I STOPPED AND FILLED UP THE GAS TANK. ONCE FULL THE SURGING STOPPED. AFTER THAT I WAS AFRAID TO RIDE OVER 50 MILES WITHOUT GETTING MORE GAS. THIS PAST SUNDAY I WAS JUST PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY WHEN IT OCCURED AGAIN. I WAS JUST AT 60 MILES AND WAS GOING TO GET GAS. THIS TIME IT SURGE WHILE I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN. THE SURGE CAUSED THE BIKE TO JUMP AND I STARTED TO LOSE CONTROL. I GOT THE BIKE STOPPED BUT BECAUSE OF THE ANGLE OF THE BIKE IT FELL ON ITS LEFT SIDE AND I WENT DOWN ON MY KNEE. THE BIKE SUFFERED WHAT APPEARES TO BE MINOR DAMAGE. BENT CLUTCH, SCUFFED HANDLE AND FOOT PEG. THE GEAR SELECTOR ALSO BENT AND NOW WILL ONLY START IN NEUTRAL. THIS IS DEFINATELY A FUEL DELIVERY RELATED PROBLEM BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF GAS IN THE TANK. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A LOT WORSE IF I WAS IN TRAFFIC OR EVEN GOING AT SPEED. NOW I HAVE A DAMAGED BIKE AND WHAT I FEEL IS NOT A SAFE BIKE TO RIDE.

"WITH ROUGHLY .9 GALLONS OF FUEL IN TANK, WHEN LEAVING A FULL STOP, VEHICLE PAUSES HARD ON ACCELERATION. PROBABLE CAUSE IS FUEL STARVATION CAUSED BY FUEL FLOWING BACK IN THE TANK, AWAY FROM THE FRONT-LOCATED FUEL PUMP, STARVING EFI SYSTEM OF GASOLINE. AS FUEL MOVES FORWARD AFTER A BRIEF PAUSE IN FORWARD MOMENTUM, THE PUMP HAS ACCESS TO THE FUEL AND THE BIKE SUDDENLY LURCHES FORWARD. THIS HAPPENS MULTIPLE TIMES AS THE FUEL IN TANK TRAVELS FORWARD AND AFT. EXTREMELY UNSAFE CONDITION AT LOW SPEEDS, ESPECIALLY AT INTERSECTIONS WHEN THIS IS MOST LIKELY TO OCCUR." INDIDENT TOOK PLACE ON MY WAY HOME "8/5/15" FROM PICKING UP THE NEW BIKE. I CALLED THE DEALER, AND THEY SAID THEY NEVER HEARD OF THIS ISSUE. THEY SAID THEY WOULD RETURN MY CALL, BUT THEY NEVER DID.

AS DESCRIBED BY IN IN MY FIRST COMPLAINT AND 53 OTHER OWNERS OF THIS VEHICLE REGISTERING COMPLAINTS - THE VEHICLE HAS A DANGEROUS THROTTLE CONTROL ISSUE DUE TO A [KNOWN] FAULTY FUEL PICK-UP TUBE/PUMP. AS SOON AS THE LOW FUEL LIGHT COMES ON THE MOTOR WILL STALL WHEN THE THROTTLE IS APPLIED AND THEN RAPIDLY ACCELERATE AT A NEARLY UNCONTROLLABLE RATE. THIS HAPPENS WHEN STARTING OUT FROM A STOP, CRUISING DOWN THE ROAD, PASSING ANOTHER VEHICLE, TURNING A CORNER... THIS SATURDAY 1 AUG 2015 THE PROBLEM HAPPENED WHILE TURNING A CORNER WITH MY WIFE ON THE BACK. THE UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION NEARLY THROUGH HER OFF THE BACK OF THE MOTORCYCLE AND CAUSED ME TO RUN OFF THE ROAD TO KEEP FROM FLIPPING/HIGH-SIDING THE BIKE.

I PURCHASED MY HARLEY DAVIDSON XG750 ON JULY 23RD AND PICKED IT UP ON JULY 24 WITH ZERO MILES ON THE ODOMETER. ON SUNDAY JULY 26 THE FUEL LIGHT CAME ON WITH APPROXIMATELY 98 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. THE NEXT DAY JULY 27 WHILE RIDING THE XG750 IT BEGAN TO SURGE FORWARD AND STALL WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP IN FIRST GEAR. IT GOT PROGRESSIVELY WORSE 2 MORE TIMES WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. I DROVE TO A GAS STATION AND FILLED THE TANK UP WITH SHELL 87 OCTANE FUEL. IT TOOK 1.819 GALLONS. ODOMETER READING WAS 102 MILES. ON JULY 30 WITH 166 MILES ON THE ODOMETER THE FUEL LIGHT CAME ON WHILE IN ROUTE TO WORK. AFTER WORK ON MY WAY TO A HARLEY DAVIDSON SERVICE CENTER. THE GX750 BEGAN TO STALL AND ACCELERATE FROM A STOP IN FIRST GEAR. I CHECKED THE FUEL TANK AND IT WAS ALMOST FULL. THE GX750 CONTINUED TO STALL AND ACCELERATE WITH OUT USING THE THROTTLE. IT STARTED TO PROGRESSIVELY GET WORSE AND SHUT OFF AT LEAST 10 TIMES. I WAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND WOULD STALL IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTIONS FORCING CARS TO SWERVE AROUND ME. I MADE IT TO THE HARLEY SERVICE CENTER WITH 206 MILES ON THE ODOMETER.

UPON REACHING APPROXIMATELY 95-100 MILES ON A TANK OF GAS I EXPERIENCE ISSUES WITH FUEL DELIVERY AND ENGINE OUTPUT. THE MOTORCYCLE LOSES POWER AND IS NON-RESPONSIVE, THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN WILL SHOOT FORWARD AS IT RECEIVES FUEL AGAIN. THIS COULD CAUSE LOSS OF CONTROL OR A MULTI-VEHICLE ACCIDENT DUE TO THE UNKNOWN RESPONSIVENESS. THE PROBLEM GETS PROGRESSIVELY WORSE, AND AFTER ABOUT 10-15 MILES OF THE SYMPTOMS THE FUEL LIGHT IS THEN TRIGGERED. THE ISSUE DOES NOT HAPPEN WHEN THE GAS TANK IS FULL, BUT ONLY AFTER USING APPROXIMATELY 1.6 TO 2.0 GALLONS OF GAS (OR 95-100 MILES OF DRIVING). I BELIEVE THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE FUEL PUMP CAUSING A LOSS OF SUCTION CAUSING THE BIKE TO ACT ERRATICALLY. I HAVE SPOKE WITH MANY OWNERS OF THE SAME BIKE AND THEY HAVE ALSO HAD THE SAME ISSUE. MANY HAVE HAD THEIR FUEL PUMPS REPLACED BUT STILL EXPERIENCE THE PROBLEM BECAUSE OF THE FAULTY FUEL PUMP DESIGN. I HAVE SET AN APPOINTMENT WITH MY LOCAL DEALER TO HAVE MY BIKE REPAIRED.

THIS ISSUE HAPPENS BEFORE THE LOW FUEL LIGHT IS ILLUMINATED AND USUALLY STILL HAS 1/3 OF THE FUEL REMAINING. I HAVE CONTACTED HARLEY AND MADE THEM AWARE BUT THEY DO NOT HAVE A FIX AS OF NOW.

THE ISSUE HAPPENS WHEN TAKING OFF FROM A STOP. THE MOTORCYCLE ALMOST DIES BECAUSE IT ISN'T GETTING FUEL, THEN IT GETS FUEL AND LURCHES FORWARD. I TRIED BRAKING AND DOWN SHIFTING CAUSING MY REAR WHEEL TO LOCK UP AND SENDING ME SIDEWAYS INTO THE GUARD RAIL. I PINNED MY LEG IN BETWEEN THE GUARD RAIL AND THE MOTORCYCLE CAUSING THE REST OF MY BODY AND HEAD TO HIT ALL OF THE GUARD RAIL AS WELL BEFORE FLIPPING OFF THE BIKE AND LANDING ON MY BACK. LUCKILY FOR ME, MY INJURIES WERE LIMITED TO MUSCLE SORENESS AND NO BROKEN BONES. I JUST FILLED A COMPLAINT LAST WEEK AS WELL ABOUT THE LEAP AND LAG SURGING ISSUE THIS MOTORCYCLE IS HAVING. THE MOTORCYCLE LAGS AND LEAPS WHEN TAKING OFF FROM A STOP OR WHEN ACCELERATING QUICKLY. IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME SEVERAL TIMES AND I HAVE ONLY HAD THE BIKE A FEW WEEKS. I BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW. LUCKILY THERE WERE NO CARS AROUND WHEN IT HAPPENED TO ME BUT IF THIS HAPPENS TO ANYONE WHILE THEY ARE IN TRAFFIC THEY WILL GET SERIOUSLY INJURED. VERY SCARY.

TANK WAS ALMOST EMPTY SO I FILLED HER UP. NO PROBLEMS THE REST OF THE DAY. NEXT MONTH OF JUNE I NOTICE MY LIGHT STARTED COMING ON WHEN I WAS LEAVING MY WORK AND WHEN IN FIRST OR SECOND GEAR IT SURGES REALLY QUICK FROM POWER TO NO POWER TO QUICK POWER ALL OF A SUDDEN. SO I WENT AND FILLED UP THE TANK AND YET AGAIN NO PROBLEMS. SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING AROUND 100 MILES PER TANK. AND WHEN AT HALF TANK TAKING RIGHT HAND TURNS IT LOOSES POWER TOO. VERY EASILY COULD THROUGH AN INEXPERINCED RIDER OFF IF THEY DONT KNOW HOW TO MAINTAIN THROTTLE AND CLUTCH CONTROL. ALSO NOTICED SHE HAS ISSUES WITH STARTING IN THE MORNING WHEN COLD IF THE BIKE SITS OUT IN THE LOT, HAVE TO GIVE HER GAS TO WARM UP. LIQUED COOLED AND FUEL INJECTED MOTORS SHOULD NOT HAVE THAT ISSUE ESPECIALLY WITH ONLY 2000 MILES ON THE MOTOR BIKE IS NOT SAFE AT THIS TIME PROBABLY DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF FOREIGN PARTS ON AN AMERICAN MACHINE.

THE FOLLOWING EVENT OCCURRED PREVIOUSLY AT A LOWER MILEAGE AT LEAST ONCE, BUT I ATTRIBUTED IT TO MY INEXPERIENCE. I AM A BEGINNER AT RIDING. ON 6/13/15 WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A COUNTRY ROAD ONTO A STATE HIGHWAY WHERE QUICK ACCELERATION IS DESIRED THE BIKE BOGGED SLIGHTLY AND THEN PROPELLED LIKE A ROCKET SHIP AGAIN ABLE TO CONTROL THIS BUT IT WASN'T THE DESIRED ACCELERATION FOR THE TURN I WAS MAKING. I AGAIN THOUGHT OPERATOR ERROR UNTIL I ACCELERATED FROM THE STOP LIGHT A MILE OR SO DOWN THE ROAD. AGAIN A SLIGHT BOG AND THEN A ROCKET SHIP THROWING ME BACK ON THE SEAT. ABLE TO CONTROL THE BIKE AND GET TO MY DESTINATION,WHICH WAS TO GET FUEL AS THE LOW FUEL LIGHT WAS ON, AND PUT 2.64 GALLONS IN THE TANK. THE PROBLEM DID NOT PRESENT AFTER THIS ADDITION. A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH OF THIS REVEALED THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE AS I FOUND THESE COMPLAINTS AND A BLOG WERE THE PROBLEM IS BEING DISCUSSED. AFTER READING THESE I ALSO REALIZED THAT THE PREVIOUS OCCURRENCE WAS ON A STATE HIGHWAY ON A LONGER TRIP AND THE LOW FUEL LIGHT CAME ON. WENT TO THE NEAREST GAS STATION AND FUELED. PROBLEM WENT AWAY. TO BE FAIR TOOK THE BIKE TO THE DEALER AND THEY HAVE SAID THEY REPLICATED THE PROBLEM WITH UP TO 1.5 GALLONS IN THE TANK. CURRENTLY THEY ARE WAITING ON A PART IN ORDER TO ATTEMPT THE REPAIR OF THIS ISSUE. PLACING MY EXPERIENCE HERE AS THE OWNERS MANUAL HAS A SECTION WHICH STATES SAFETY DEFECTS MUST BE REPORTED TO THE NHTSA AND HARLEY-DAVIDSON.

FROM A COMPLETE STOP, I ACCELERATED SLOWLY DOWN MY GRAVEL DRIVEWAY TOWARD THE PUBLIC STREET. AS I ACCELERATED AND LEANED LEFT SLIGHTLY TO FOLLOW THE PATH OF THE DRIVEWAY, THE MOTORCYCLE STALLED MOMENTARILY AND THEN IMMEDIATELY ACCELERATED RAPIDLY. I GRABBED THE FRONT BRAKE AND PRESSED DOWN ON THE REAR BRAKE SIMULTANEOUSLY AND THE BIKE SLID AND LAID DOWN. AFTER RECOVERING AND ASSESSING THE SITUATION, I RODE CAUTIOUSLY ON THE PUBLIC STREET TO THE NEAREST GAS STATION AND TOPPED UP THE TANK. AFTER RIDING SEVERAL MILES AND UPON COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP AT A STOP LIGHT, I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE AT THE INTERSECTION AND THE BIKE AGAIN STALLED MOMENTARILY AND THEN ACCELERATED RAPIDLY. THE SAME STALLING OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES AT THE SAME AND MULTIPLE SUCCESSIVE INTERSECTIONS. AT NO TIME DID THE LOW FUEL INDICATOR APPEAR LIT ON THE BIKE. AT LAST FAILURE, THE BIKE HAD ROUGHLY ONE-HALF TANK OF FUEL. AT 88 MILES ON THE ODOMETER, MY HUSBAND RODE THE BIKE TO THE DEALER ON 5/23/2015 TO HAVE IT INSPECTED. THERE WERE 95 MILES ON THE ODOMETER WHEN HE DELIVERED THE BIKE TO THE DEALER. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALER IMPLIED THERE WAS SIMPLY A LACK OF FUEL IN THE TANK. AFTER HAVING THE BIKE FOR SEVERAL DAYS, THE SERVICE MANAGER CONFIRMED THEY WERE ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM WHILE RIDING THE BIKE. THEY'VE HAD THE BIKE FOR NEARLY 4 WEEKS; 2 WEEKS LONGER THAN I HAD THE BIKE. THE SERVICE PERSONNEL HAVE SINCE INDICATED THEY WON'T HAVE PARTS TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE UNTIL AT LEAST THE THIRD WEEK OF JULY, 2015; OTHER DEALERS ASSERT AUGUST. THE BIKE WAS PURCHASED ON MAY 9TH, 2015 AND HAD BEEN RIDDEN TWICE BY ME BEFORE IT WAS RETURNED FOR WARRANTY REPAIR. FROM A COMPLETE STOP AT AN INTERSECTION, I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE WHILE TURNING RIGHT AT THE INTERSECTION AFTER STOP LIGHT CHANGED. THE BIKE SEEMED TO STALL MOMENTARILY AND THEN RECOVER, THEN STALL AGAIN AND RECOVER AGAIN. THIS HAS SINCE BECOME A REGULARLY OBSERVABLE PATTERN WHEN THE GAS TANK IS PARTIALLY FULL BUT NO LOW FUEL INDICATOR LIGHT DISPLAYS. TOPPING UP THE TANK RESOLVES THE ISSUE AGAIN TEMPORARILY UNTIL THE TANK IS SLIGHTLY LESS THAN HALF FULL. PROBLEM IS MOST PRONOUNCED WHEN TRAVELLING UPHILL OR LEANING THROUGH A TURN.
