AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2001-2002 Acura 3.2CL, 2000-2003 Acura 3.5RL, 2000-2001 Acura 3.2TL, Honda CR-V and Honda Odyssey, 2001-2002 Acura MDX and 2000 Accord Coupe, Accord Sedan, Civic Coupe, and Civic Sedan vehicles. These vehicles may have received a replacement driver frontal air bag module as part of a vehicle repair. Due to a manufacturing issue, the replacement NADI inflator may absorb moisture, causing the inflator to rupture or the air bag cushion to underinflate.
Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the air bags in the vehicles, replacing the driver frontal air bag inflator with an inflator of a different design, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began October 1, 2020. Owners may contact American Honda's Customer Support & Campaign Center at 1-888-234-2138.

ON SOME MINI VANS, SPORT UTILITY AND PASSENGER VEHICLES, CERTAIN OPERATING CONDITIONS CAN RESULT IN HEAT BUILD-UP BETWEEN THE COUNTERSHAFT AND SECONDARY SHAFT SECOND GEARS IN THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, EVENTUALLY LEADING TO GEAR TOOTH CHIPPING OR GEAR BREAKAGE.
Remedy: ON VEHICLES WITH 15,000 MILES OR LESS, THE DEALER WILL UPDATE THE TRANSMISSION WITH A SIMPLE REVISION TO THE OIL COOLER RETURN LINE TO INCREASE LUBRICATION TO THE SECOND GEAR. ON VEHICLES WITH MORE THAN 15,000 MILES, THE DEALER WILL INSPECT THE TRANSMISSION TO IDENTIFY GEARS THAT HAVE ALREADY EXPERIENCED DISCOLORATION DUE TO OVERHEATING. IF DISCOLORATION EXISTS, THE TRANSMISSION WILL BE REPLACED IF DISCOLORATION IS NOT PRESENT, THE DEALER WILL PERFORM THE REVISION TO THE OIL COOLER RETURN LINE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON APRIL 21, 2004, FOR PILOT, ODYSSEY, AND MDX OWNERS. OWNERS OF THE ACCORD VEHICLES WILL START RECEIVING LETTERS ON JUNE 28, 2004, AND ON JUNE 29, 2004, FOR OWNERS OF THE TL AND CL VEHICLES. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: THE FOLLOWING VEHICLES WERE REPAIRED WITH INCORRECT PARTS: 2002 ACURA 3.2TL SEDANS WITH REPLACEMENT BUCKLES INSTALLED PER RECALL 01V-166001; CERTAIN 2000 ACURA 3.2TL VEHICLES WITH REPLACEMENT BUCKLES INSTALLED AS PRODUCT UPDATE REPAIRS; AND CERTAIN 2000-2002 ACURA 3.2TL VEHICLES WITH REPLACEMENT BUCKLES INSTALLED AS WARRANTY OR COLLISION REPAIRS. REPAIRS WERE MADE FROM MARCH 9 THROUGH JULY 27, 2001. SOME OF THE NONCOMPLIANT BUCKLES WERE MISLABELED AND REDISTRIBUTED TO ACURA DEALERS TO BE USED AS RECALL REPAIR PARTS. HONDA ALSO DETERMINED THAT INCORRECT FRONT SEAT BELT BUCKLE REPLACEMENT PARTS WERE USED FOR SOME PRODUCT UPDATE REPAIRS OF 2000 ACURA 3.2TL VEHICLES, AND WARRANTY OR COLLISION REPAIRS OF 2000-2002 3.2TL VEHICLES. THESE SEAT BELT BUCKLES MAY NOT COMPLY WITH REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS NO. 209, "SEAT BELT ASSEMBLIES."
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT, AND IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THE FRONT SEAT BELT BUCKLES. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN AUGUST 20, 2001. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT ACURA AT 1-800-999-1009.

I have reached out to Acura on three separate occasions to try and get them to inspect and possibly replace my recalled airbags. They have failed to contact us back every time and this is our only mode of transportation. I've expressed my concerns to them each time and let them know I'm forced to drive this vehicle until it's fixed.

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALER FLOW ACURA 4952 NEW CENTRE DR, WILMINGTON, NC 28403 (910) 218-7070. DURING THE RECALL REPAIR THEY TOLD THE CONTACT THEY DID NOT HAVE THE RIGHT PARTS AND SAID THEY WOULD CALL HIM BACK. THE DEALER CALLED BACK AND SAID THAT THE MANUFACTURER REP SAID THEY DID NOT MAKE THAT AIRBAG PART SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS OLD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT ABLE TO PASS INSPECTION SINCE THE REPAIR SHORTED OUT SEVERAL FUNCTIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS UNREPAIRED WITH A DEFECTIVE AIR BAG WHILE THE DEALER LOOKS FOR ANOTHER PART. THE DEALERSHIP AND HONDA (CALLED HONDA THIS WEEK) WILL NOT EVEN PROVIDE A DATE WHEN THE REPLACEMENT AIR BAGS WILL BE AVAILABLE. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED SEVERE INJURIES TO THE HEAD, NECK, UPPER BODY, LEFT EYE AND NECK VERTEBRAE THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED AWAY. I WAS EXACTLY HALFWAY THROUGH A 350 MILE ROAD TRIP, DRIVING UPHILL ALONG A BUSY INTERSTATE IN THE LEFT LANE WHEN, WITHOUT WARNING, MY 2001 ACURA 3.2 TL BEGAN LOSING SPEED DESPITE CONTINUED THROTTLE ACCELERATION. THE ENGINE RPM'S WERE CLIMBING AS IF THE TRANSMISSION WERE IN NEUTRAL. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO ROLL TO RIGHT SHOULDER AND COME TO A SAFE STOP. MY TRANSMISSION SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY. THE REVERSE AND ALL DRIVE GEARS BEHAVED AS NEUTRAL. I WAS LEFT WITH ONLY PARK AND NEUTRAL. I OPENED THE HOOD AND SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING. I SPOKE TO A GENTLEMAN FROM THE NHTSA ON 2/6/13 WHO INFORMED ME THAT THE RECALL PERTAINING TO THE 2001 ACURA TL TRANSMISSION, 2ND TO 3RD GEAR SLIPPAGE THAT CAN RESULT IN TRANSMISSION LOCKUP AND CRASH, IS STILL VALID THROUGH APRIL OF 2014, WITH NO MILEAGE RESTRICTIONS AND IS TO BE REPLACED AT THE FULL COST OF THE MANUFACTURER (NHTSA RECALL I.D. 04V176, ACURA RECALL I.D. P39). IN AN ATTEMPT TO HAVE A PRODUCTIVE CONVERSATION WITH AN ACURA CLIENT RELATIONS REPRESENTATIVE ON 2/19/13, IN HOPES OF HAVING THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED AS THE VEHICLES TRANSMISSION IS DETERIORATING RAPIDLY, I WAS TOLD THAT THE GENTLEMAN WHO I SPOKE WITH FROM THE NHTSA WAS INCORRECT IN THE INFORMATION HE PROVIDED AND THAT THE RECALL HAS ALREADY EXPIRED. MY COMPLAINT IS TOWARD ACURA RELATIONS AND DEVAN ACURA OF NORWALK, CT REGARDING A SERIOUS TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM CAN RESULT IN TRANSMISSION LOCKUP, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH. A CASE MANAGER FROM ACURA RELATIONS EXPLAINED OVER THE PHONE THAT IF PROBLEM IS RECALL RELATED, THE COST OF REPAIRS WOULD BE COVERED. THE D5 ON THE TRANSMISSION STARTED BLINKING, THE THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH TCS LIGHT. THE SHIFT FROM LOWER TO HIGHER SPEEDS WAS BIT JERKY OR SLOW. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER FOR CHECK-UP. ON DIAGNOSTICS, HE GAVE ME THE CODES P1739 AND P1750. THE RECOMMENDATION WAS TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION - COST 4200$. THIS PROBLEM WAS HIGHLIGHTED IN A 2002 MEMO FROM ACURA , HOWEVER, IN MY CASE, THE PROBLEM SHOWS UP AT THIS MILEAGE AND I AM NOT COVERED. TRANSMISSION FAILURE: I BOUGHT THIS CAR AT 25K MILES IN SEPT "04". RECALL TOOK PLACE APR. "04". I WAS NEVER TOLD BY THE DEALER, THAT A "RECALL" WAS MADE ON THE TRANNY FOR 7/100K. ( IT WAS MORE IMPORTANT THAT THEY PUT THE SALE OF THE CAR OVER THE SAFETY OF ME AND MY CHILD )I FOUND OUT ON THE DAY MY TRANNY WENT OUT ON AUG. "10" AND THEY SAID I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $3,700 FOR THE REPAIR DUE TO THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. I WAS COMING OFF THE FREEWAY AT 65 MPH WHEN I EXITED AND SLOWED DOWN TO APPROX. 35 MPH, THE CAR WENT "CRAZY" IT WAS BUCKING AND JUMPING AND THRUSTING US FORWARD IN A JERKING MOTION. I AM FEMALE AND HAD MY TODDLER WITH ME, I WAS SCARED, IT WAS A STRANGE BEHAVIOR FOR A CAR, IT FELT LIKE I WAS BEING HIT FROM BEHIND BY ANOTHER CAR. I COULDN'T SHAKE THE IDEA THAT WE JUST GOT OFF THE FREEWAY. HAD THIS CAR DONE THIS WHILE ON THE FREEWAY!! MY THOUGHTS ARE WE WOULD OF BEEN BADLY HURT ALONG WITH OTHERS. MY 2001 ACURA TL WITH 162,000 MILES HAS A SUBFRAME THAT IS SEVERELY RUSTED AND WEAKENED TO THE POINT OF COLLAPSE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. ACURA HAS DECIDED TO CALL THIS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR BUT I STRONGLY DISAGREE. THE AIR CONDITIONING CONDENSING UNIT HAS A SMALL HOSE FOR CONDENSATE THAT IS LOCATED DIRECTLY ABOVE THE SITE OF THE RUST. THIS HOSE HAS BEEN DRIPPING ONTO THE SUBFRAME WHENEVER THE AC HAS BEEN IN USE. THIS IS NOT WEAR AND TEAR, IT IS A DESIGN FLAW THAT ACURA IS NOT OWNING UP TO AND IF THE WEAKENED SUBFRAME WERE TO BREAK WHILE THE CAR IS BEING DRIVEN THIS WOULD BE A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE. THE OTHER PARTS OF THE SUBFRAME ARE IN FINE CONDITION, THERE IS ONLY ONE EXPLANATION WHY IT WOULD BE RUSTED OUT IN THIS ONE PLACE. *TR

2001 ACURA 3.2 TL NEEDED TRANSMISSION REPLACED IN OCTOBER 2006 DUE TO A SAFETY RELATED DEFECT. MILEAGE ON CAR AT THAT POINT WAS ABOUT 61,000 MILES. AUGUST 2010 TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. THE CAR HAS ABOUT 98,000 MILES ON IT. SO THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WHEN IT HAD INCURRED 37,000 MILES ON IT. THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT REPLACE IT UNDER THE SAFETY RELATED DEFECT. THE DEALERSHIP SAID ORIGINALLY THAT I HAD TO PAY ALMOST $5,000 TO GET A NEW TRANSMISSION. FINALLY, AFTER MUCH HASSLE, THEY MADE ME PAY $1,005 AND I HAD TO PAY $330 FOR A RENTAL. THE TRANSMISSION FAILED DUE TO THE SAFETY RELATED DEFECT AND I SHOULD NOT HAVE HAD TO PAY FOR IT. CLEARLY THE TRANSMISSION THAT THEY INSTALLED IN 2006 WAS DEFECTIVE, JUST AS THE ORIGINAL TRANSMISSION WAS DEFECTIVE. HE PULLED OVER TO SIDE OF THE ROAD, BUT NO NOISE WAS HEARD. HE GOT BACK IN THE VEHICLE, PUT THE VEHICLE IN GEAR AND BEGAN TO PROCEED SLOWLY, AGAIN NO NOISE WAS HEARD. THE NEXT MORNING, HE MADE ARRANGEMENTS TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. AT THE FIRST STOP SIGN, AS HE PULLED INTO A LANE AND TURNED RIGHT, THERE WAS A GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. WHEN THE CONSUMER ARRIVED AT THE DEALER HE FOUND OUT, THAT A SAFETY RECALL HAD BEEN ISSUED, BUT THE WORK WAS PREVIOUSLY DONE. ONE WEEK AGO I NOTICED THAT MY CAR'S TRANSMISSION (2001 ACURA TL) WAS SLIPPING BETWEEN 2ND AND 3RD GEAR AS WELL AS WHEN SHIFTING INTO REVERSE. I WENT TO ACURA HONOLULU YESTERDAY AND THEY CONFIRMED THE ISSUE WAS WITH THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPING. THEY ESTIMATED THAT THE REPAIR COSTS WOULD TOTAL $6600 (NEARLY WHAT THE CAR IS WORTH). I DID SOME ONLINE RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THAT THIS YEAR'S MODEL HAS A FAULTY TRANSMISSION AND THEY HAD OFFERED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, HOWEVER, BECAUSE MY CAR IS OVER SEVEN YEARS OLD, THEY WILL NOT HONOR THIS WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH MY MILEAGE IS WITHIN THE ACCEPTED COVERAGE OF 100,000 MILES. I'M NOW STUCK WITH A CAR THAT IS UNSAFE FOR ME AND OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD YET ACURA IS UNWILLING TO ASSIST IN THE REPAIR COSTS. I PURCHASED A 2001 ACURA TL LAST WEEK 03/09/10 FELL IN LOVE ....ON 03/16/10 DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON RPM RISE WHEN I PRESS THE GAS PEDAL BUT THE CAR DOESN'T SPEED UP. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND ONLY DRIVER OF MY CAR AND I HAVE TAKEN EXCELLENT CARE OF THE VEHICLE (NEARLY ALL DEALER-RECOMMENDED INSPECTIONS AND MAINTENANCE IN TIMELY MANNER). THE ORIGINAL TRANSMISSION FAILED AND WAS REPLACED IN 2003, AS PER THE MANUFACTURER'S RECALL. ONCE AGAIN, MY CAR HAS BEEN RENDERED INOPERABLE BECAUSE THE REMANUFACTURED TRANSMISSION HAS NOW COMPLETELY FAILED (AFTER THE EXPIRATION OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY) - WITH 108,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. WITH A MODERATE DRIVING HISTORY, A WELL-CARED-FOR CAR SHOULD NOT HAVE TWO FAILED TRANSMISSIONS IN NINE YEARS. AS A RETIREE, $4000 REPAIR COSTS OR USED CAR PURCHASE PRICES ARE BOTH PROHIBITIVE; AND ACURA DISCLAIMS ALL RESPONSIBILITY. *TR

WE OWN A 2001 ACURA 3.2TL, WHICH WE BOUGHT IN 2006 WITH 43K MILES ON IT. IT CURRENTLY HAS A LITTLE MORE THAN 91,000 MILES ON IT. ABOUT A MONTH AGO, WE STARTED EXPERIENCING TRANSMISSION TROUBLE - VERY SLUGGISH SHIFTING, AND SLIPPAGE BETWEEN 2ND AND 3RD GEARS, AND HEAVY SHAKING/VIBRATION OF THE CAR (UNTIL THEN IT HAS BEEN A FANTASTIC VEHICLE). I GOOGLED IT AND FOUND OUT THAT IT WAS UNDER A RECALL. HOWEVER, WHEN I CALLED THE LOCAL ACURA DEALER, WE WERE TOLD WE WERE BEYOND THE 7 YR WINDOW, EVEN THOUGH WE HAVE LESS THAN THE 100K LIMIT ON THE WARRANTY. *TR
