On March 5, 2008, about 1130 universal coordinated time, a Mooney M20J, LV-MPT, experienced a total loss of engine power during cruise flight and performed a forced landing to a field near Buenos Aires, Argentina. The foreign certificated private pilot and a passenger were not injured, and the airplane sustained minor damage. Postaccident examination of the engine revealed a fractured crankshaft.
