The pilot receiving instruction's failure to attain the proper touchdown point and execute a go-around and the CFI’s delayed remedial action, which resulted in a runway overrun.
Full Narrative
According to the pilot receiving instruction, the flight was being conducted because she had not flown in two months and she wanted to "brush up." While practicing a "spot landing," the airplane landed long and overran the end of the runway (3,738 feet long by 100 feet wide). The airplane came to rest upright in a ditch adjacent to the airport property. Examination of the airplane revealed the firewall was buckled. The airplane owner, who was also the pilot receiving instruction, stated the airplane had no mechanical problems that caused the accident.
