Event Location

Probable Cause

The pilot's delayed decision to perform a go-around, which resulted in the airplane colliding with a fence during the initial climb.

Full Narrative

In a written statement, the pilot reported that he had to circle the destination airport numerous times in an effort to lose altitude. The airplane touched down about 200 feet from the approach end of the landing strip and bounced. He maneuvered the airplane back down, but then decided to perform a go-around. He applied full engine power and collided with a fence during the initial climb.

In the section titled "RECOMMENDATION" in the NTSB Pilot/Operator Report, form 6120.1, the pilot stated that the accident could have been prevented if he didn't attempt to land at the airport, or landed softer. The pilot reported that there were no pre impact mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airplane. As a result of the accident, the airplane incurred damage to the firewall and wings.
