Full Narrative

The government of India has notified the NTSB of an incident involving an Airbus A320 airplane that occurred on October 25, 2019. An IndiGo Air Airbus A320-271N Neo powered by two Pratt & Whitney PW1127G-JM geared turbofan engines experienced a No. 2 (right) engine failure during climb which was preceded by an ENG#2 stall warning, high vibration, and exhaust gas temperature over limit during its flight from Mumbai Airport, Indian to Coimbatore Airport, India. The airplane performed an in-flight shutdown of the No. 2 engine, an air turn back, and an uneventful landing was made. Post landing engine inspection confirmed a low pressure turbine 3rd stage blade failure.

The NTSB has appointed a U.S. Accredited Representative as the state of manufacturer of the engine to assist the government of India in their investigation under the provisions of ICAO Annex 13. All investigative information will be released by the government of India.
