Full Narrative

The government of India has notified the NTSB of an incident involving a AIRBUS A320 airplane that occurred on April 2, 2019. An Indigo Airbus A320 powered by two Pratt & Whitney PW1127G-JM geared turbofan engines experienced a No. 1 (left) engine failure while climbing through FL150 after departure from Pune Airport (PNQ), India. A loud bang was heard followed by an engine stall and exhaust gas temperature overlimit was reported. An air turn back was performed and a successful single engine landing was made. Post landing right engine inspection identified damage to the low pressure turbine stage 3 blades.

The NTSB has appointed a U.S. Accredited Representative as the state of manufacturer of the engine to assist the government of India's investigation under the provisions of ICAO Annex 13. All investigative information will be released by the government of India.
