Event Location

Probable Cause

The pilot's failure to maintain directional control during landing.

Full Narrative

The solo student pilot reported that, during landing, the airplane touched down left of centerline, veered left, exited the runway to the left and nosed over.

The airplane sustained substantial damage to the lower left-wing lift strut.

The pilot reported that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.

The automated weather observation station located on the airport reported that, about 5 minutes before the accident, the wind was from 320° at 7 knots and about 15 minutes after the accident, the wind was from 320° at 9 knots, variable between 290º and 350º. The airplane landed on runway 33.

The pilot did not submit the National Transportation Safety Board Pilot/Operator Aircraft Accident/Incident Report Form 6120.1.
