Full Narrative
The government of India has notified the NTSB of an incident involving a AIRBUS A320 airplane that occurred on January 3, 2019. An Indigo Airbus A320 experienced a No. 2 (right) engine failure while climbing while climbing after departure from Chennai Airport (MMA), India. A stall was detected with engine vibration reported. An air turn back was performed and a successful single engine landing was made. Post landing inspection identified damage to the low pressure turbine stage 3 blades.
The NTSB has appointed a U.S. Accredited Representative as the state of manufacturer of the engine to assist the government of India's investigation under the provisions of ICAO Annex 13. All investigative information will be released by the government of India.
