Full Narrative
On October 4, 2013, a China Airlines Airbus A330-302, powered by General Electric CF6-80E1A4 turbofan engines experienced a No. 1 engine starter failure while at cruise after takeoff from Sydney Airport, Sydney Australia. The flight crew shutdown the engine and the airplane diverted to Caines, Australia where an uneventful single engine was performed. The NTSB has appointed a U.S. Accredited Representative to assist the Australian Transport Safety Bureau investigation under the provisions of ICAO Annex 13 as the State of Manufacturer of the engines.
