The pilot's failure to adequately maintain airspeed during a go-around.
Full Narrative
According to the Federal Aviation Administration inspector, the airplane was not in a position to land, so the pilot performed a go-around maneuver. The pilot was not able to get the airplane to climb or maintain altitude. The airplane settled to the ground 200 yards past the runway's departure end. Substantial damage was sustained to the airplane's fuselage and the pilot was seriously injured. A postaccident examination did not reveal any anomalies which would have precluded normal operation of the airplane. The pilot did not return an NTSB Form 6120 prior to the completion of the investigation.
