Incident Narrative
A dowel was being drilled into the side of a concrete paving foundation. The hammer drill bit would not stay centered on the foundation. An employee was stabilizing the hammer drill bit when it caught the employee's glove. The glove and the employee's left thumb were wrapped around the drill bit. The employee was hospitalized with a severed and dislocated thumb and they required surgery to reattach the thumb.
