An employee was stringing roving through the machine using polyester cord strapping. He was using his left hand to keep tension on the strapping as it fed through the tensioner. The strapping wrapped around his right thumb and pulled his hand into the tensioner. The strapping removed skin and flesh to the bone from just above the knuckle to the thumb tip. The employee was hospitalized.
